Located just a half mile from our farm you will have complete privacy, but are welcome to come visit the animals. Site includes a fire ring and picnic table. Our 120 acres are located about 10 miles off the highway in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are state hiking and ATV trails within a couple of miles if you want to venture further than our property. Bring a camera as you will have plenty of opportunities to see wildlife. Though the forecast wasn't looking ideal, I couldn't pass up a weekend at a Christmas Tree Farm with a private campsite. We were given easy to follow instructions and met Donna and her husband at their quaint log house. Donna showed us around her property, letting us interact with her several, beautiful Haflinger horses. We were graciously given firewood, before Donna led us to the campsite and set up a table for us. The site sits atop their Christmas tree farm about a mile and a half from their home. There was plenty of space to set up our tent, and a fire ring for concealed fires. We played cribbage, cooked brats, and watched the wonders of mother nature long into the night as the wind had swept the storm around the hill. We watched a lightening storm from a distance, which was an experience neither my boyfriend nor I had ever had. It was a beautiful sight, though Donna has granted us permission to stay in their school house building if the storm became too dangerous. The morning surprisingly brought sunny skies, and we took time to enjoy the weather before heading out.
Though the weather was not supposed to be on our side, it gloriously worked in our favor. It was a lesson in modern camping, as it is so easy to only seek the most beautiful campsites with cabins, hammocks, lakes, and good weather. There is so much to be experienced at a site such as this, with beautiful views of the farm and open skies. Sometimes we need a refresher in nature and the hard work that goes into the land at a property such as this, and this trip did exactly that.
As an experienced hiker and camper, I thoroughly enjoyed Elmcrest Acres. I am no longer interested in taking my family camping to places where other people are set up 10 feet from you in all directions. Elmcrest acres gives you the privacy to be able to enjoy nature with with the peace and quiet you won't get at state and county parks. I enjoyed the wide open space of rolling hills dotted with spruce trees, hardwood forests, hiking trails galore and the ink black night sky with the Milky Way clearly visible overhead. It's a landscape photographer's Disneyland. Eventhough there are no onsite toilets, they have a facility about a 1/2 mile away that has clean, private toilets, a washroom and shelter from inclement weather. Thank you to the camp hosts for having me up to their property. They were very hospitable and even provided me with firewood and snickerdoodle cookies:) I would definitely go again, and likely many times more in the future.
Private, gorgeous getaway up north!
We had such a wonderful time at this campsite! First of all, it was even more private than we expected. No other campers around, and surrounded by trees! The site was very clean and had gorgeous views out to Donna’s Christmas Tree farm. We were provided with a picnic table, fire pit, and firewood (thanks to Donna). Besides that, you’re on your own - so it makes for a very authentic camping experience. During our stay, we drove two hours north to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - something I can’t recommend doing enough. The water of Lake Superior is crystal blue - make sure you hike the 10 mile Mosquito Trail if you’re up for it :) Back at the campsite you can hike a bit around the property, but nothing too crazy. Definitely watch out for ticks down by the stream that is not far from the campsite. Overall we had such a peaceful, pleasant stay, and will hopefully be back someday! Oh and bring lots of bug spray! Thanks again!
This is the place!
We were so happy with this camp. The hosts were very friendly and so accommodating to all our needs and even let us meet the animals at their farm. The privacy was everything we dreamed of and the land, especially the half mile grass path up to the camp is incredibly beautiful any time of day, a gem to behold. Bathroom access was simple enough though not at camp, even for the women and children and was very nice. Highly recommend if breathtaking nature and a huge space to yourself is that you're dreaming of for your next camp. Will definitely consider this place again!
Incredible camping site. Super pretty and very private. The host, Donna, was extremely friendly and brought us dry wood for a camp fire. Also, if you use Verizon, the service is somehow really good at this site. HIGHLY reccomend.
Amazing campsite! Wonderful spot on a hill with plenty of space to relax. About 25 minutes from Lake Michigan with beautiful roads and trails in between. Our hosts were so nice and helpful. Bought some lamb steaks they raised that made for the best meal! Would definitely stay again!
