If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
This place was absloutely beautiful and peaceful. Which is exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking for! This was our first hip camp and I'm glad it was here. The hosts were extremely hospitable and we loved that they took time to chat with us and gave us suggestions on awesome places near by. We had a good conversation over wine and cheese! Absolutely beautiful property and endless activities to do near by. Short 12 minutes to the sand dunes national park and 25 minutes to Traverse City. Think rustic camping meets glamping. You park your car a short walk away from camp and hike 1-3 minutes up the hill to set up your tent. At the bottom of the hill near the entrance there is an community outside kitchen set up with a gas stove, toaster, coffee maker, grill, mini fridge, two grills and kitchen supplies. At night the outside kitchen illuminates with lights wrapped around the top. There is also a community outdoor dinning area as well that is on a wooden platform and covered with an awning. Then you walk over to the beautiful outdoor shower place. This was one of my favorite parts of camp. You literally shower outside with the trees above you and the sunshine beaming on your face. The outdoor area features a changing room and two showers. Although it is outside you are still completely covered for privacy. There is an enclosed inside shower. There is also a porta potty as well. There's also a community fire pit and picnic table as well. This is in the woods and is absolutely magical at night when the moon shines over camp. Bring bug spray and apply it generously. We will definitely be returning and recommending this little gem to friend and family. Thanks for having us guys!
Such a great place to stay! Robb and Jeannie are amazing hosts. The camp is close enough to Sleeping Bear that you can experience it but still be far from the hustle and bustle. Beautiful pine forest with nice sized spots. The camp kitchen has a stove, small refrigerator, coffee maker, and everything else you’d need for basics. We brought food and some utensils and definitely felt fully prepared. The site was easy to find from their directions/GPS. The campsite could be busy if all the spots were filled at once, but we had the fire pit to ourselves and could work around other campers cooking times so it wasn’t too hectic. I would definitely recommend it, such an easy going place and beautiful star gazing!
Jeanne and Rob are fantastic hosts. We loved the community aspect of Camp Moonshadow, and meeting fun fellow campers. It was a bonus that several families also had children who had a blast playing together with our kids. Sleeping under the pines and viewing the stars was so soothing for the soul. We appreciated the spaciousness of the sites and the amenities provided. Thanks so much!!!
First things first - My family and I had a wonderful time at Camp Moonshadow! For us, it was a one day stop on an epic road trip around Lake Michigan, but for others it is a destination all by itself.
For the weary traveler, Camp Moonshadow has it all. Take a warm shower inside the shower house or outside, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. For those traveling to Camp Moonshadow as a destination, you can leave most of your camp supplies at home and travel easy thanks to the camp's fully outfitted outdoor kitchen. Complete with a working stove, a coffee maker, a sink, mini fridge and more, you can cook a gourmet meal for your crew in the outdoor kitchen any time of day, even in the rain. Just be sure to keep it clean for your fellow campers to enjoy as well.
The provided directions to Camp Moonshadow are easy to understand and brought us right to camp. Once at camp the signs and instructions are clear, visible, and easy to understand.
When we arrived we were treated to a happy hour in the communal dining area - wine, cheese and crackers, as well as snacks for the kids. The kids happily filled the provided utility wagon with our gear and pulled it up the small hill to our campsite before playing soccer as the sunset in the nearby mowed field. As the adults got dinner ready in the amazing outdoor kitchen, the kids used the wagon to collect kindling to add to the communal kindling pile next to the fire pit and after dinner we enjoyed a roaring campfire before tucking in for the night.
Our hosts were available to chat and answer any questions we had. We highly recommend a quick stop at Camp Moonshadow or a multi-day trip. While there, be sure to head over to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for a view of Lake Michigan you'll not soon forget.
What a pleasant surprise! This was my first HipCamp stay and Camp Moonshadow was far more than I expected. The tent camping sites were spacious, flat and beautifully set in the trees. The kitchen was stocked with all the basics one could need, though I just used my Jetboil for coffee and some MREs left from a prior camping trip and chatted with the other campers in the communal area. There are super clean port-o-johns and hot showers! The hosts were very attentive with messages, but I wasn't able to meet them due to my itinerary so I hope to next time I'm in the area. If you're still reading this...Stay here! It's wonderful!
This is our fourth trip to Moonshadow. It's the perfect spot for just a night or an extended stay. The amenities are fantastic and make it an easy and comfortable experience. With close proximity to so many great attractions it's should be on every Hip campers list. Robb and Jeanne do a great job to keep the place in great shape with everything you need for a relaxing break
Fabulous basecamp & ideal location!
Camp Moonshadow was the perfect landing spot for our family! The hosts were fabulous, the property was private and comfortable, and the outdoor showers were amazing! We plan to return for years to come :-)
As a solo camper I felt safe in my surroundings. Other campers were friendly. The amenities were great, hot shower, stove to cook on, fridge, Everything this rookie camper needed.
Quiet, close to lake michigan
Robb and Jeanne were attentive to the needs of our group and even offered their dryer after an all night rain soaked some things! The camp is quiet and peaceful and the extra touches like wood for our fire and use of the out door kitchen really worked well for our group of 22 campers. Our hosts were so thoughtful and accommodating. I would highly recommend staying at MoonShadow Camp
