Our 40 acre property is beautifully wooded and undeveloped, and we only book 2 sites at any one time so that you can enjoy a more secluded experience. The tipi site is rustic....it includes a fire ring, cooking tripod, picnic table, and it's own private "open air" pit toilet (click on the pictures above to view photos). The tipi floor is lined with indoor/outdoor grass carpet and has two cots and two chairs inside. You will need to bring your own bedding and your own drinking water, however there's no need to worry about finding firewood before your arrive as we supply you with a free bundle that will be waiting for you when you get here! A short walk along a wooded trail will take you to the edge of the West Branch of the Sturgeon River where you can sit and listen to bubbling water and birds singing. We maintain 1 1/2 miles of marked, wooded trails and it will feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere, yet the convenience of the small town of Vanderbilt is just three miles away.
We are located three miles off of I-75. The larger town of Gaylord is only a 15 minute drive south. There's lots to do here in beautiful Northern Michigan. Only a few miles from our camp you can go swimming at the Thumb Lake Park beach, or take a bike ride along the North Central State Trail in Vanderbilt. Drive 15 minutes north and you can canoe or kayak the main branch of the Sturgeon River in Wolverine. There are many great hiking trails in the Pigeon River State Forest and the North Country National Scenic Trail is only 6 miles away.

Our second trip!
And we are looking forward to a third!
This is our spot, and we are loving getting to explore the wood board trails near the river, listening to the coyotes chatter to each other at dusk, and finding a secret little carved owl in the woods near camp.
Thank you again, Dove and John!
Girls weekend. very fun
My sisters and I enjoyed staying in the tipi. Enjoyed walking through the woods down to the river. Had a nice bonfire. The outhouse was clean. Easy to find off of I-75. Close to Burt Lake , Petoskey
The tipi experience
What great people our hosts are!! They were so helpful and accommodating! We absolutely loved the tipi!!! The site was so beautiful and peaceful! The river was a short 5 minute walk through the woods and was well marked! We would highly recommend this experience!
This camp site is the most unique set up we have ever had the pleasure to experience in 40+ years of rustic camping. Would make an excellent family reunion spot for up to 18 people. We highly suggest booking a trip to get away from the usual and take in the great outdoors in a very different way. We plan on making another trip there again soon.
