Don't miss the evening light show!
This was an interesting spot. A huge field of tall grass surrounded by trees on 3 sides. (I'd recommend bringing a camp rug.) Can be a bit muddy after a good rain but not impossible to find a good spot. Loved the openess of the field. Flys were a bit aggressive but no problems with mosquitos despite the rain, definite plus. My favorite part of Prancing Deer was at night. I have never seen so many lightening bugs at once it was magnificent! Like the stars in sky had come down to light up the trees and fields. Utterly beautiful.
The only thing that might be a con for some is the sound of the neighbor's weekend target practice. It can be quite alarming if your not used to, or expecting that kind of thing. But it was during reasonable hours, didn't last long, and things returned quickly back to peaceful pastures. I would definitely stay here again.
Perfect minimalist spot!
Beautiful land that’s perfect for camping! I had a great time relaxing and reconnecting with nature. Kelly was very nice and booking the site was easy. I would recommend staying at Prancing Deer.
Kelly’s field is beautiful and offers a three sided view of forested woods. You do hear some road noise—did not bother me. Good night sky.
My only note/caution: the entrance drive was boggy due to heavy recent rain. Quite squishy and muddy, and I was towing a trailer. If I did not have a 4wheel drive truck, I might have been hesitant to drive through with a heavy load. But I made it no problem.
