Mulehalla on the Potomac River

We had a great weekend stay! The hosts were welcoming and the location was ideal for my group.

I had a great time despite the little bit of rain. Very peaceful and private. Great hosts!

Thank you guys for hosting, we had an amazing time. The rustic look, friendly feel and biodiversity gives it a magical feel. The grounds are well kept and the hospitality is on point (thanks again Bernadette). ❤️❤️❤️

We stayed at Mulehalla (campsite #8) for 2 nights and had a really wonderful experience! This specific site is just across the field from the porta-potty and the firewood shed. A bundle of high-quality firewood was $5, which was enough for 3 fires over two days.

Notably, this site is a 2 minute walk to the new bathrooms with showers. I was really happy to have access to a proper toilet and sink. Liquid hand soap, paper towels, and toilet paper was provided.

Currently, the towpath is under construction. Therefore, you have to take a detour which involves traversing some steep elevated areas that may be difficult for some, especially if you're planning to ride a bike along the pathway. Otherwise, the towpath is very accessible and definitely a great perk to Mulehalla. We can't wait to come back again after the construction is finished!

Overall, each of the campsites are pretty good sizes, with some more private than others. The neighbor's house is in sight of campsites #8, #9, and #10 but just far away not to be distracting. Most sites have a tent pad, picnic table, and fire pit. (Example: Campsite #9 did not have a tent pad, and campsite #8 did not have its own fire pit.)

It's advisable to arrive before night fall because finding your campsite in the dark can be really difficult even with the markers. For anyone interested in a glamping experience, campsite #1, located behind the new bathroom building, has a canvas tent that they put up for you in advance, which can be useful if you are planning to arrive a bit later in the day.

Good spot. Way more room than camping at crowded State Parks.

This was my favorite hipcamp to date. This site was large and private. We had everything we needed from firewood to a nice clean bathroom. I can't wait to come back next year.

This place is great!
9 campsites spread out in a wooded field. Clean well kept and a 5 min walk from the miles long tow path on the Potomac river.
We walked but next we will bring our bikes.
Mtgey even had large firewood bundles for $5 each.
We will be coming back with friends soon!

It's a lovely site and we really enjoyed getting away to Mulehalla. While the construction on the C&O towpath meant that we had to take a slightly longer detour to get there, we were able to easily get out to walk and bike along the towpath near the slackwater section of the Potomac, which was great. The firewood that Mulehalla had available was the best we've seen at a campsite! Thanks for a great weekend.

The primitive camping area is large, grassy and uncrowded. It was well groomed, free of trash, and quite beautiful. Potable water is available nearby, but not within the primitive camps. A large fire ring is provided, and firewood is available on-site at a reasonable price. Rest rooms and cold showers are also available on the grounds and access is included in the price. Location relative to the C&O Towpath is somewhat awkward but not unreasonable. At the time of our visit (3 Oct), there was a detour in place that prevented our access to the road that leads to the campground. We had to climb a steep trail that had been covered with mulch material. The trail eventually took us to the road leading to the camp. This is no fault of Mulehalla, but is put in place by the Park Service for maintenance of the C&O Towpath. The management of Mulehalla came out to meet us and was very cordial and helpful. This camp is recommended for those who need a place to tent camp with water available.
