Learn more about this land: Happy Homesteaders is hosting a Happy Campers Backyard Retreat. We are a family of 5 dedicated to Self Sustainability and Self Reliance. We live it. We love it. And we love to share it with others. Come be our guest in your own privately fenced in camping site. Wake up to roosters crowing and gobblers gobbling on our quaint 1 acre homestead tucked into the valley of South Side Chesapeake City. Pull into your private drive and hook into the electric or come tent in our private campsite. The goats will greet you by the fireside. Lock the gates and let your hair down, swinging in one of the 2 hammocks behind the privacy fence. There's fishing down the road as well as a nice spot to kayak. A biking trail that goes all the way to Delaware City. (Ben Cardin C&D Canal Trail) We've got one of the most amazing paintball venues right across the street and the Bohemian inlet just 2 miles down the road. We are smack dab in the middle of all kinds of fun! Located between Baltimore and Philadelphia, our Happy Homestead is just 26 minutes (18.7 miles) from exit 1 off I-95, and just 16 minutes (9.6 miles) from Route 1, which is only 37 miles from Delaware Beaches. Have yourself a nice quiet night but know you are only a stones throw away from all the parties!

    Happy Campers Private Retreat
    Spacious, private retreat
    Marie and her family are incredibly kind, welcoming, and accommodating. The campsite was private and spacious- we have a huge tent and had plenty of space. My kids loved the chickens, turkeys, and goats, and my husband and I especially appreciated the coffee bar each morning! Marie was also extremely responsive and flexible as we had to rearrange our plans a few times. I would recommend this campsite without hesitation.

    Happy Campers Private Retreat
    The host was really friendly and down to earth. They gave us a tour of the farm and had a campfire going when we arrived. They chatted with us by the fire and made an amazing breakfast with farm fresh eggs, bacon, scrapple and fresh coffee! Amazing breakfast! The host was extremely knowledgeable about holistic health and self-sustaining farming. Highly recommend!

    A one of a kind campsite
    Most Hipcamp sites are a place to pitch a tent or park an RV, this site is more than that, it's a unique experience. You camp on the host's small plot of land they call their "homestead". You share the space with a small flock of chickens and one very large tom turkey. Having them wandering about was rather pleasant and not at all a bother. The hosts are super helpful and friendly with lots of good advice on what to do in the area. Nearby Chesapeake City is a lovely little town and the C&D Canal Trail is just a short drive away. There is an electric and water hookup on the property.

    Super friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable of homestead living. Beautiful area, quiet location. Would be happy to camp again!

    A safe haven in a country enviroment. Waking up to the roosters crow and learning the turkey's personality and interacting with it was a priceless experience. The host couple made me feel right at home in my little t@b trailer.

    Eclectic lil bit o heaven
    The nicest hosts EVER!! A really eclectic stay! Sweet chickens, lovable goats and a sassy Tom turkey who ‘tries’ to act like the boss but fails. Great electric and water hook up. Nice fire ring with benches and Tiki torches. Our hosts bent over backwards to improve our stay! Even provided ice. If you love herbs, wild foraging and natural remedies you will love chatting! We will definitely come back given the chance ! ❤️👍
