Very cute and quiet. Great part of maine to stay. Located in a rural neighborhood making it both a fun place to camp, with a sense of security, and privacy. The Whale Shack is extremely easy to find and even easier to access. The neighborhood has quarrys to explore, trails to hike, and a beautiful swimhole with the jumps to match. I allow up to 4 people, although the cabin really fits 2 people but has room to pitch a tent for the rest of your party. I don't mind if all of you try your luck in the cabin tho. You are not far from Frenchman Bay and Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor which is only a 30-40minute drive.. The area is rich with tons of fun, we really hope you enjoy your stay.

Great spot, especially for hiking Acadia. Bare bones, as described. It was easy to find, clean, and had everything we needed for the weekend (fire pit, picnic table, porta-potty, drinkable water, shelter)

Ron was incredibly accommodating as hurricane (tropical storm) Henri complicated our plans to go to Acadia. He helped me to cancel and re-book so we avoided the storm on our vacation. The facilities were clean and tidy and I would recommend this site to others for sure!

Great little budget-friendly spot in a quiet neighborhood. I was only there to rest for the evening, but seems like a good homebase for a couple of days if you are adventuring around the area. Loved the little picnic area set up!

The stay was exactly as described in the description and exactly what we needed! Ron was a great host and was very responsive and helpful. We used the hose as a shower with a tarp hanging from the trees which worked really well but the water was freezing!! Great for filling water bottles though:)

The Whale Shack was perfect for what we needed - a place to camp after spending our days in Acadia (40min drive away).
Ron, the host, was very friendly & accommodating.

Was perfect for two of us (one on bed, one on sleeping bag on floor) and we had a good time there. Five stars from us!

I don’t want to give this place a thumbs down rating per se…Ron was great at responding quickly, and totally decent. The problem was the description of the place: it is REALLY a garden shed, with a double bed, a bedside table, light and a fan. There is a porta-potty. The “kitchen” was a garden hose. There was a fire pit and a picnic table that broke as we sat down on the bench. So…if you’ve been camping, need a bed and no rain for a night, this place would be great. But it was not suitable for my family, and we ended up staying in a motel that night.

I appreciate the feedback, unfortunately I'd have to disagree with you on a couple things. "Kitchen available" is hipcamps thing because there is a BBQ, not because of the garden hose and the description and pics couldn't be anymore clear on this but it saddens me to here that you had an unpleasant stay. My best advice is really look through the pictures next time you use hipcamp. Hope the hotel was good tho, and you guys had fun tho! Much love to you and your family!

Great stay. Very secluded from the rest of the property and Ron was very helpful providing firewood and wifi. Definitely would recommend.

The Whale Shack was exactly what we needed for the night! We pulled up late, in the rain, and we were able to park right by the shed and scoot in. The space was clean, the bed was made with nice sheets, and Ron had left the light on for us, knowing we were getting in late. That was very kind!
