Hermit Hut sits in a clearing, off the beaten path at the northern end of HVNC. As you might guess by the name, it is furthest from our entrance and visitors to Hermit Hut often remark about the wildlife they see and hear. This newly-renovated and insulated fishing cabin has the feel of a classic Maine camp. It is a great setting for individuals and families looking for quiet and solitude. The clearing around the building makes it a perfect setting for large groups with additional people in tents.

Hermit Hut is located at Midcoast Conservancy's 1,000 acre, award winning Hidden Valley Nature Center, and a portion of the booking fees goes to support our mission to protect and restore vital lands and waters on a scale that matters.

We absolutely loved our stay there. It rained and was chilly outside but the woodstove and the improvements to the insulation in the hut made it very cozy. The hike in was absolutely stunning with natural small waterfalls and babbling brooks along the way and views of the pond. 100% would recommend for anyone who would like to take a break and enjoy nature at its fullest.

Great spot! Cabin warmed up quick and stayed warm all night! Only request would be a better way to get on the top bunk. We’ll be back to check out the other places and to ski!!!

The ski in wasn't too bad. Took 45 minutes to an hour and we were pulling sleds. We brought our dog with us. The space heats up quickly and gets hot as others have pointed out. Being winter we just hung out in the cabin and the furniture is not very comfortable so after hours of hanging out I was yearning for more comfort. The listing says potable water available, which I took to mean at the cabin, but there's not. We ended up melting snow. I sent an email 4 days beforehand asking a question about the space and no one responded. More details about the listing would be really helpful! It is totally silent, which is amazing these days. All in all, we had a nice time.

Hermit Hut was wonderful. With the renovations it is very cozy. No drafts. Wish we could have stayed longer, but glad to have the get away. Though the hut can hold four we had a nice time as a couple. Make sure to bring a camping mattress. The beds are OK, but require some extra padding.
