If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We loved it here! Deer Isle itself is such a welcoming, slower pace than nearby more heavily touristy Maine attractions. We had everything we could ask for for easy car camping (huge, bone dry canvas tent, electricity, nice fire pit with available grill top, bathrooms, showers & laundry) and everything was laid back and welcoming at Four Acre Woods. Sites are a little closer together than we were expecting but still felt like we were deep in the woods and there was nearly no road noise. Having the bathhouse and laundry were a great bonus after staying a few days elsewhere without showers & laundry facilities. Caleb and his beautiful dog Nako (sp?) were very cool and helpful hosts.
While this camping spot probably works fine for many, it was not for us. We like to get away from it all when we camp. While this campground is well off the beaten path, it is small, cramped, noisy (think neighbors conversations, their kids, their dogs, etc), and only about 20 ft back off the road. The view from our site was directly into our neighbors site, and their view into ours. It was awkward. :-/ Thankfully, they had left by our second night. The whole campground is situated in a low point on the island; a kind of gulch. It is not particularly relaxing or serene, but if all you need to do is sleep there, then it's probably fine. Bring your earplugs. Advice, grab camp wood at the many roadside places available to pick some up before you arrive. It's $1 a log at the campground! We found a place where it was only $3 a bundle.
Convenient & meaningful
We had a great time staying here! Caleb was friendly and welcoming, eager to share the story behind why the campground exists in its current form, and the canvas tent & campground amenities made our stay extremely enjoyable and comfortable. We typically go to Acadia annually, but this year opted to stay a bit farther away with only a day trip to Acadia, and this provided the perfect opportunity to explore Deer Isle and enjoy the beauty of Maine from a new vantage point. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!!
Really good campsite, with lots of amenities if you’ve been without a shower or clean clothes while camping in the area. Definitely off the beaten path, with a pretty drive to get there.
Quiet, very helpful staff
I could not reccommend this campsite enough. Of all the campgrounds and air bnb's ive stayed at, this one would be number 1. The site is in located away from town in the woods. Its quiet but whats best about it is the staff. The camp manager/owner is the most helpful and involved ive seen compared to other places. We actually had a car breakdown while we stayed here and without hesitation the camp manager hooked us up with the local mechanic and even drove us to and from the shop. He really helped us out and i know he would do the same for others, i definitely reccommend this campsite!
