What is the Summer of Magic?
Hipcamp and REI have teamed up to host a series of free campouts and other outdoor experiences passed out as Magic Passes throughout the summer. We believe that nature — and spending time outside immersed in it — is a magical experience. Through the Summer of Magic campaign, we aim to help thousands of campers enjoy that incredible feeling.
How do I find new campouts?
Sign up to be notified via email and Hipcamp app push notification when we drop new campouts.
How do I get early access to campout drops?
1. Sign up to be notified here.
2. Download the Hipcamp app and turn on push notifications to find out about new campouts 2 hours before anyone else.
Where are the campouts going to be?
We’ll release campout locations across the entire United States. For specific locations, make sure to sign up for campout drop notifications.
Once I sign up for drop notifications, do I need to do anything else?
If you’re interested in receiving a Magic Pass for a particular campout, request one by clicking the “Yes, please” button in the drop announcement push notification or email.
What is a Magic Pass?
Magic Passes unlock access to various types of rewards: Free spots at Summer of Magic campouts;, “Hipcash” (credit toward a future Hipcamp stay); products provided by REI, Hipcamp, and participating brands; and complimentary access to firewood, eggs, ice, and other camping supplies during a campout. How many Magic Passes will be given out?
Together with our partners, we’ll be rewarding over 1,000 Magic Passes throughout the summer.
What inspired the REI Co-op + Hipcamp partnership?
You! Hipcamp has a wide range of outdoor stays. The co-op has the gear and the know-how. We both believe in the connection to the outdoors. Together, we're making it easier to get outside whether—you're new to the outdoors, a total pro or somewhere in between.

Who is behind the Summer of Magic artwork?
Hipcamp collaborated with illustrator and painter Wyatt Hersey to create the Summer of Magic Campout Series artwork. Wyatt’s work explores narratives of relational ecology, deep ecology, and ecological consciousness. His background as a wildlife biologist and nature connection mentor greatly informs his work as a visual artist, as does his belief that art is an essential expression of the goodness of humanity.
