Terry Bison Ranch Resort

We stayed one night as we were traveling between Montana and Colorado. We dry camped but had access to the bathrooms including showers . Bathrooms were super clean. All staff was friendly.

Terry Bison Ranch was a great overnight spot on our way up to the Grand Tetons. Super accommodating, they let us in with a late reservation and when we woke up the next morning with battery issues in our RV, they were really understanding of our challenges and let us stay a couple hours after check out while we waiting for a new battery to arrive. Beautiful scenery and a great place to be stuck in for a few extra hours!

Dry site a bit underwhelming

The staff was very nice while checking in but overall underwhelmed by the dry camp site. The dry sites are just an open field less than 20 yards from the highway with no divider or barrier for sound or wind. Not exactly a place you’d want to set out your chairs. As people who mostly harvest host (free overnight camping) and don’t need access to facilities, we expected a little more out of a paid site.

Camping at the Ranch

We had an amazing time staying here. The people were very friendly and welcoming. It was fun feeding the Bison and the Restaurant was amazing. We absolutely enjoyed every moment of our stay.

Tent site

The tent sites are too close. The fire pits were dug in holes in the ground with grate over it. This caused a trip hazard at night in dark. The peacocks 🦚 were running around our tent at night bothering us while we slept. Besides these things it was pretty camp site.

Few Little “cons”,overall super fun

Terry’s Bison Ranch is a great and fun place to stay when you are in town. That said, it is not a “enjoy your natural surroundings” campground. You are right next to the highway and will hear the traffic go by day and night. If that doesn’t bother you, than you are going to have a lot of fun. Everyone was super nice, the bathrooms were clean and the ranch has lots of fun activities. There is a restaurant and cafe as well. The listing said that there would be a fire pit, which was NOT. That was a bit of a let down for me personally.

This place was so so cool. We were able to check in and set up quickly. They had a store with bathrooms, showers, and laundry opened all night and then the other side was a little convenient/gift shop. They sell firewood and ice too and have small fire pits for the tent camping sites. The views were beautiful and they have fun little trails to go on that lead to the animals. Our favorite part was going to the above ground platform that looked over the animals cages. They even had a baby goat running around. Beware of the alpacas, I got a little too close for his comfort and he spit on me, my friend and I died laughing lol. We took the train ride and even tho the bison were too happy with their grass to come eat from us, it was still a great ride and well worth it, plus they were kind enough to refund our food. We ate at the steakhouse and I highly recommend the philly. I love it here!

The campsite offering was a bit disappointing given how windy the area naturally is, plus the interstate is so close and loud. Wouldn’t recommend for tent camping, but would recommend for RVs or a little day trip

Interstate parking.

This is a commercial campground for lots and lots of RVs right beside the interstate. They lost my reservation and asked me to park and camp where people walk their dogs. I didn’t not get to see the Bison since they weren’t running the train until noon the next day….so that is a service I didn’t pay to use. The interstate noise is quite loud. Instead of tent camping I slept inside my vehicle and locked my doors.

Dry site met expectations

We stayed here during Cheyenne Frontier Days. We didn’t take advantage of the train to see the Buffalo, but we could see them from afar. The facilities were clean, there’s a dog park area, a couple of playgrounds, and friendly staff. This is close to I-25- you can see the campground from the highway, so if you need complete quiet, this is not the best option for you. We would be up for returning in the future.

Great service. Nice place with variety things to do while there. Stayed in a tent which wasn't bad but if it was fully booked , not much room for privacy and picnic table close to each other.

Shaded tent areas with picnic tables, away from the many RVs, made this pleasant, but this is not camping out in the wilderness, of course. There are buildings with fake Wild West facades, a saloon and gambling parlour., and a train to see Bison. This site is near the highway and you hear the trucks.

We love Terry Bison ranch. The staff is very friendly and it is nice to be able to shop at the trading post. If you were to forget/run out of something, they probably have it. They also have locally made Salsa which was great. The train was amazing. Jonathon is a great guide. Feeding bison is really fun. The only complaint that I had was the interstate noise. We have a pop up and it would wake us up at times. I am not going to count that against the review though. If you had an RV I am sure it would be fine. Will be back for sure.

Close to the interstate (easy to find but easy to hear cars driving by). Clean toilet/shower. Walk around by the place to see animals (llamas, cattle, ostrich, turkey, etc.). The train ride ($20 per person) gives you the opportunity to feed bison (pretty cool).

The ranch is fun for kids. Unfortunately, it’s right next to the highway, that’s pretty noisy. We tried to get an upgrade on the site, because there were some with a prettier view. The host was really inflexible regarding the upgrade and told us, we could stay within the RV parking lots (which wasn’t an option for us), but as long as that’s not full, we can’t stay on the nicer sites. So we basically stayed in the third row from the nicer sites. To us, that didn’t make a lot of sense. Other than that, you’ll have a great time exploring the ranch.

The bathrooms were very clean. Someone was always attending to them. The food from the cafe and steakhouse was top notch. Staff was all extremely friendly. Unfortunately our visit got cut short by two days because a microburst came through and destroyed our tent and campsite. We had to pack up quickly and find other arrangements. Because we had to leave early they provided us 4 vouchers to come back again and take the bison train ride.

Perfect place to stay for CFD! We loved being close to the cows! We enjoyed the train ride and feeing the bison! So much fun & we can’t wait to do it again! My boys said the only thing it’s missing is a pool!

Rugged but unique

We stayed at Terry Bison Resort one night. Upon arrival we asked if we could upgrade to a site with hookups because it was quite warm. We were told no. I am not 100% clear on how lines are drawn between HipCamp and regular RV reservations on-site but there were a TON of open sites with hookups. It all ended up fine. We had s lot of open space snd a view of the bison herd and did the bison train tour with my kids. They got to each feed the bison which was a once in a lifetime experience. That’s what made our trip! Also cool that the property is split between WY and CO.

Confusion and frustration

It was an enjoyable stay but the front desk staff needs more training. I did not realize it was a regular campground in addition to being a Hipcamp. The front desk staff had no idea what Hipcamp was, had no record of my reservation and basically told me that I was in the wrong place. I had to insist on seeing a manager and even then, there was a lot of confusion. It really made the beginning of my stay aggravating. There was no apology afterwards…. So on a customer standpoint I would give this place an F. We did have an enjoyable meal at their sit down restaurant. Personally, I think you would better off making your reservation through their normal website, since using a Hipcamp reservation just causes confusion and frustration.
