Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
A beautiful campsite on a gorgeous lake, with a gravel pad to park a camper or other RV. Has a fire ring, picnic table, and a stairway leading to a dock that runs over large boulders and to the shore of Sailor Lake, nestled in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. NOT stacked like sardines in a can (the normal camp experience). The neighbors are hardly to be seen through the trees that surround this beautiful clearing. Sailor Lake is 168 acres. Has a National Forest Picnic area and Boat Landing on the north shore. Access to popular Flambeau ATV trail. Approximately 3 miles south of HWY 70 on a gravel road.Back in our short driveway to our huge gravel pad and relax! You've arrived at our "sanctuary of sunlight". Watch the clouds, listen to the birds, dream into the flames of a campfire or just nap. If you are more adventurous, there are hundreds of miles of ATV and UTV trails, biking, swimming, fishing, or kayaking readily available. We bought this lake lot because we were sick of trying to camp at a lake and not even seeing it when we arrived. We got sick of being crammed together like sardines in a can, able to hear every word of the conversations around the campground. We wanted peace and quiet, privacy, and a campfire with the lake in the background. We wanted to walk down to the dock and cast our poles. Now we want to share it with you. Enjoy! Pets welcome! Vault toilet and hand pump right around the corner at the National Forest Picnic area! This site is about an hour from our home, so we will be doing a contactless check-in/check-out.

Very mixed feelings
I have very mixed feelings about camping here. The place is beautiful, but I don't recommend it for children. The dock area is too rocky, and I also don't recommend swimming in the area with children because of the weeds and lily pads. They can easily wrap around a child's legs or arms. For adults, kayaking and fishing were great. I think our biggest mistake was going here during the Fourth of July. Since it was a holiday, the neighbors had a huge gathering, so the road was busy, and the noise was awful. With that said, they were not rude or disrespectful to us at all. Honestly, they were just having fun. I don't know how it is on normal weekends. For me personally, we like it more quiet, especially later at night. The host was awesome and answered all my questions and gave me information so we could enjoy the surrounding towns' fireworks and parades. This was very much appreciated.

Camping with dogs
The sight was secluded enough, caught a northern off the dock, really enjoyed ourselves. Mosquitos are heavy this year!

Great fishing!
We had a great weekend at Sanctuary of Sunlight! There are a lot of pros to this place. Private dock on a great fishing lake! We caught sizeable panfish, northern, catfish, and largemouth all right off the dock. Large level area and very easy to back into. The extra bench next to fireplace is useful, as well as the nice picnic table. Beautiful sunsets. Clean, well kept area. I know everyone's interpretation of "private" is different. If you are used to camping at what I like to call "parking lot" campgrounds, where you practically hit the next camper walking out of yours, then this is amazingly private. There are woods surrounding the campsite on all sides. You can, however, see the house across the street through the trees, and there is a camper parked on the lot through the trees on one side of the campsite as well. No one was there the weekend we stayed, so it didn't bother us at all, but if they had been there it would have felt more like a really nice, spacious campground setting then a completely secluded lot. I definitely would still recommend this place, it honestly all depends on what you are looking for. The pros of the private dock and great fishing carry a huge weight in my book!

Beautiful Peaceful Retreat
Beautiful, peaceful campsite! We very much enjoyed our stay at Sanctuary of Sunshine. Lovely site surrounded by trees with a view of the lake and the sunset. We stayed on weekdays in September and there was very little traffic on the road, maybe 6 cars a day. So quiet and peaceful! It was so quiet! Loved watching the sunset while enjoying the fire!

Awesome place!!!!!
I'm tempted to give this place a bad review just so I can keep it to myself!!!! My only regret is that I don't have an ATV/UTV to ride all the trails. So relaxing and private. Good fishing, beautiful sunsets and no light pollution. Be sure to go into Minocqua..

Beautiful Private Lot!
This site was perfect! Completely private and serene, and on a great little lake. We kayaked, caught fish within minutes of casting our poles, and even ventured over to Copper Falls one day and Minocqua the next due to its great location! The sunsets were phenomenal!!! Nikki was super nice and responsive, and we would definitely recommend spending time on her beautiful lot!
