What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. Also often there is an opportunity to work on the farm harvesting and processing food. Let me know if that is something you would like to do. Treely Yours, Bill

Holler-lujah in the Run

100% (3)
Tent site · Sleeps 2
This tent site is perched over the "run" which is the creek that runs through the holler. It is easy to access, but it feels like you are deep in an Appalachian cove. It is always cooler and shady down there. There are 6 waterfalls above it that range from 6' to 20' high. The run is most dramatic in the winter/ spring and can go to a trickle during the dry season. This is by far the most primitive and private site. You also have access to the kitchen at the old homesite up the hill which has electric, running water, stove and fridge.

Grand Vista Orchard site is located at the bottom of the nut orchard and is a flat grassy mowed spot among the shade of a row of oak trees. It is a good site if you like convenience. It has electrical and water hookup for two RVs. It is by a low-traffic road where you would most likely be happy to see someone go by and wave. It is inside an 8' deer fence that circles around the perimeter of the 40 acre nut orchard of nascent trees. This site boasts the best long views on the Farm that look well into Virginia.  While in the orchard, it is important to stay to the roads so as not to hurt the young trees and to keep the gate closed. Behind the orchard is lovely walking on easy logging roads including rock outcrops and waterfalls. If the ground is too wet for your RV, I have a backup site a 1/4 mile away by the old log house that sits next to a rowdy frog pond. There is a good gravel driveway, outdoor shower, outdoor sauna, an RV hookup, a hose, but not a hose hookup.

Gramping Shack

Deep Hollerlujah! Come revive yourselves in the Glory of Nature's wonderful West Virginia. I have found over the years that when people come here they sleep in. It's as though the freneticism of the rat race has people all wound up and when they rest among the smells, sounds, and fresh air of our woodlands signal their bodies to relax.....deeply. There is so much here to experience with the diversity of terrains from the songbirds to the fruits and foods that grow wildly along the forest edges. You will rehabilitate a piece of your soul here.  Our farm consists mostly of organic fruit and nut production over 1/6 of the property. It is a wildly varied landscape of over 300 acres which provides dynamic hiking along cliffs, a creek, waterfalls, fields and woods, and ponds. We live to eat and I am a food enthusiast and eat a lot of wild foraged foods along with what I grow. We are nestled in a very quiet enclave of southeast WV and it is a sanctuary from the bustle. Deep Hollerlujah is a very private site. It is the original homesite on the farm and is a flat grassy area. There is a 3 walled open building that has a sink with well water, electric hotplate and light, refrigerator, kitchen counter space and the humanure bucket. There is a loft without a mattress, but mostly this site is intended for camping. It would love to see groups. The grassy site is perched right above the holler so a 2 minute walk down to the creek drops you into a different world. There is also a camping site down in the woods for a more primitive camping option if it is open.

Gramping shack

Booked 1 time
Cabin · Sleeps 4
Come sample early retirement at the gramping shack. "Gramping" is West Virginia glamping with a rocking chair. This sweet little shack is a 10 x 10 tiny house with a loft with a mattress for sleeping looking over our best swimming pond. There is a small fridge, table and a small gas stove with an oven. There is also a wood stove which makes it cozy for the cooler seasons. There will be humanure bucket provided as a toilet.  Gramping shack is at the edge of the pear orchard with a nice open feel. It is mostly private aside from occasional passing farm activity. From here you have easy access to the woods in the holler. There is a nice grassy yard to park and layout on. It may get warm in the loft during the heat of the day, but cools off for sleeping. The firepit is by the pond.
