Looking for a personal retreat or get away ? Escape to our beautiful, RUSTIC 32 acre wild homestead / farm. A lovely balance between wild and tame. We are 10 minutes from the Potomac River, 10 minutes from Opequon Creek, 20 from Antietam Creek and 30 minutes from the Shenandoah River. Harper's Ferry is 30 minutes way and downtown Historic Shepherdstown is just down the road. We are also close to several state parks. - What do we mean by "RUSTIC" ? The camping experience we offer is about unplugging from the modern world , getting back to basics, slowing down and re-connecting with the land. Simply put, this is CAMPING .... not glamping. (Our Cosmic Cottage is also rustic, despite the amenities that come with it). - CAMPSITES and TREEHOUSE - No electricity or wifi on the land. Campsites and TREEHOUSE are nestled in the woods. So although your vehicle will be parked within 50 ft or so from site, you cannot pull directly up to the site and get any closer because of the trees. - SHOWER and PORTA POTTY - roughly a 5 minute or less walk from sites to shower and / or porta potty. Shower hours are 8 am- to 8 pm. The shower has hot and cold running water . You can drive to the shower if you need to. - RESPONSE TIME - This is a working herb farm/ sanctuary and we so do not always have our phones on us. We will make every effort to respond to you within a few hours. Please be patient and you will receive a response. -BOOKING - If you are interested in booking and / or availability, go to the HIPCAMP BOOKING CALENDAR and enter the dates you are interested in. for the most up to date accurate info on availability. - Feel free to wander through the herb gardens, eat your meals in the garden pavilion (we have picnic tables there and hammocks), get your Zen on in the meditation hut , and stroll through the woodland medicine path where we grow endangered and at at risk plant plants. (heads up.. the woodland medicine path goes to seed by the Fall and is usually munched down by the deer by then, but is still a nice short stroll in the woods).

Remember when you were a kid and loved to build and spend time in treehouses ? We know that just because you are an adult...that desire for "treehouse magic" never really goes away ! Our rustic treehouse is all screen on 2 sides, and solid wood on the other 2 sides, with a roof overhang. - TREEHOUSE INCLUDES: futon, bedside table, deck chairs, fire pit , picnic table/benches, cooking grate, and wagon for transporting belongings to treehouse. - BRING YOUR OWN : sleeping bag or sheets, sleeping pad, pillow, towels and cookware as if you would camping. - It is a mild, gradual incline from parking to treehouse. ...roughly 20 ft from parking. There is a small wagon for your use in the parking area and solar charged lights. Please return them where you found them to charge for the next camper. We also recommend bringing a flashlight or headlamp. Cozy Cocoon Bell Tent

No tent? No problem. This 16 foot rustic and cozy, secluded bell tent includes: it's own separate outhouse, a simple full size futon on wooden pallets, a loveseat, a table and 2 chairs , a firepit, a small portable outdoor grill and a small covered porch with chairs. It is located on a wooden platform that is roughly 3 ft off the ground and has steps leading up to it. It was the former site of our previous yurt, so there is still lattice work surrounding it. Tent has big wide screened opening for door, as well as multiple screened vents along the bottom of the tent that zip open. This site does not have electricity. No cooking inside tent. Bring sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, kitchenware, etc as if you were camping. There are people who live on the land who also use the outhouse. There is a wagon in parking area to transport your things. Please return to parking area when done.

Tiny Treehouse on the Farm
Great treehouse! Make sure you hold onto the handrails when going up. Those steps can be slippery! Inside is very cozy. Make sure you’re comfortable sleeping with your companion that you come with! Very quiet and secluded.

Cosmic Cottage
My friend and I, both in our late 60's, had the best couple of days at Hillarys place. Walking around the grounds was just so peaceful and relaxing. This was our 2nd visit, the 1st time we stayed in the Tiny Tree house, it was so much fun...a real nature adventure, but the steps are a bit much for us now. This time we stayed in the Cosmic Cottage, it was perfect! I liked that we could unload our stuff right at the door then park close by. I especially liked that the cottage has electric, it made making coffee and heating food a luxury. The bed in both places is wood pallets on the floor topped with a futon mattress, each time I brought a 4" foam to put over it...so we were very comfortable. There's only one bed so you have to be very good friends...like us, since childhood🙂 We also enjoyed fires in the nice, big firepit in back. We went to nearby Sheppherdstown and Harpers Ferry too. I highly recommend this place for a peaceful getaway and we will definitely be returning...we'd like to try the giant tent next time.

Lovely Site In The Woods #3
We had a very peaceful experience camping at this herbal sanctuary with a group of 5 friends. The whole property has cute hand painted signs so it’s very clear how to get around. The site is tucked the furthest of the sites up in the woods, so it feels private, but it’s not a far walk to the grassy clearing where we parked our cars. It’s proximal to the sacred circle, which was lovely and it’s so nice to have a grassy area to relax in. You can walk from there down to see some cows. They also have a farm store where we bought some dried herbs for tea making. I enjoyed using the outdoor shower (it’s open air and really cute!) I sat in the herb garden while waiting for it to be available. Also, you may get to meet some cats (two sweet silver kittens joined us at our campsite for an evening, overnight and morning) they were the highlight of the trip! we drove 30 minutes to Harper’s ferry to hike and swim, and got coffee one morning in nearby Shepardstown. such a lovely weekend!

Could not recommend this site more. There was plenty to explore around the property including the herb gardens, meditation hut, and self serve farm store. Location was quiet and I awoke to cows mooing :)

We had a great time here this weekend! The site (#2) was perfect for two of us. We enjoyed exploring the farm and it is a short drive to Shepherdstown and the B&O canal trail. There was so much to do in two short days and we had a great time. Easy to find, good communication with host, camp locations are well marked.

Everyone on the homestead was welcoming and kind. She gives you a nice map of the place and on the back has local places you could check out which I thought was very sweet. Would 100% recommend staying here. Perfect place for a get away. Thank you so much :)

Hillary's land on a hot, dry September afternoon filled us with joy. We explored the meadow trails. We sniffed the varieties of herbs. We embraced the Mother Tree. This is a meditative place and a true sanctuary. Bell Tent is a grand place to sleep, everything we could want — clear directions, well-kept facilities, and privacy to UNWIND.

A magic treehouse

We had a lovely two night stay in the treehouse at Sacred Roots Herbal Sanctuary. The experience was better than the pictures suggested! There is a short walk to carry your things from the car to the campsite. It is important to be mindful and take care when climbing the steep steps to the treehouse itself. (If you have any mobility or health concerns this may not be an ideal campsite for you.) The air mattress was comfortable. The fire pit, picnic table, and washing station were nicely arranged. It's only a short walk to the portapotty and a bit further to the wonderful shower (seemed luxurious to me, lol!) We enjoyed walking through the grounds, through the little orchard, medicinal garden trail, and pausing for a bit at the meditation hut. I would definitely recommend this spot. Loved it.

I loved exploring all of the beautiful nooks and crannies of this land that is so clearly well loved. I loved having the farm store right there to check out! The campsite was perfectly tucked away and still easily walkable to my car which I could see a bit through the woods. Delightfully rustic. It was an easy drive into Shepherdstown and other area hikes. I recommend checking out Yankauer Nature Preserve!

Cozy Cocoon Bell Tent
We stayed in the Bell Tent. It was very comfortable and our child really enjoyed its proximity to the Sacred Circle. I did need earplugs because of the train, nearby cows (bulls?) , shooting practice nearby(?), small planes, and a surprising number of middle of the night howling dogs/coyotes(?). Hillary was very pleasant and welcoming and the property had a number of hidden and whimsical spots for meditation, walking, and herb identification. Everyone in my family said they'd love to come back. We had a wonderful stay. I also loved the wind chimes!

Love this HipCamp! This is my 3rd time and its been lovely every time. Such a peaceful and quiet location. Tent sites are spread out nicely. Lots to look at on the land - all the herb gardens, tree house, and farm store. Will be back!

This camp is absolutely incredible! Would recommend this to anyone visiting the area. It was close to areas like Harper's Ferry, A crystal mine, some battlefields and a lot of history. The shower area was very nice and clean. Only thing I'd note is the porta potty is a teeeeeny bit far from the third and second campsite at least at night, but totally doable for the day. I wish there was one a bit up the hill for sites 2 and 3 to share.

The Cosmic Cottage was a great place to crash for the night. The bed was comfortable, and the box fan made the hot August temperatures bearable. I was able to pull right up and unload my things, and the parking was quite close by. Beautiful property!

Beautiful property, convenient fire wood, sufficient campsite. The actual site could use a picnic table but we knew one wouldn’t be included. There is an active freight train line maybe 5 miles from the campsite and the horn can be heard quite often through the night.

Lovely Site In The Woods #3
Really beautiful property, located a short drive from Shephardstown and about half an hour from Harper’s Ferry. The campsites are dispersed, large, wooded and private. Water is a short walk, and there is an outhouse available. Mornings are beautiful, surrounded by nature, breezy leaves, and a very calm area. The trees make it slightly buggy, but use bugspray, and you’re good to go.

Cool lil’ treehouse

The treehouse was very stable and clean. Hosts were nice and easy to communicate with. The grounds and gardens are beautiful! Very close to down and Harper’s Ferry NHP. Only slight issue was both barking dogs from a neighboring property and very loud trains sounding their horns all through the night/early morning. Other Hipcamp sites on the other end of the property may not hear as much. Would stay here again

It was a private structure, and with no fault of the host, it was entirely too physical for me. I was so worn out, I left a day early. When I got home, I couldn't move out of my chair. I do think a basket on a pulley system would help bringing gear up and down. I definitely have to be more careful with my choices, and be more realistic of my age and physical limitations.

We had a lovely stay at sacred roots farm! A very peaceful atmosphere and lots of berry bushes :) just a short trip to Harper’s Ferry where we had a great time hiking and exploring the historic sites. Also close to Potomic Ridge brewery which had live music and a great outdoor space.

Another Lovely Spot In The Woods #1
We had such a great time at Sacred Roots Herbal Sanctuary over the Fourth of July weekend. The location is really easy to find and get to. It's super convenient to Shepherdstown while still feeling like you're out in the woods. The campsite was spacious and private. We really appreciated the onsite outhouse and shower--especially coming back from tubing! We highly recommend!

I absolutely loved this site! The pictures of the tree house and everything on the property were beautiful, but it was so much nicer in person. You have a lot of privacy here as the other camps are down the road, but it didn't feel like a long walk to the bathroom or shower. The site was very quiet at night, and it was extremely relaxing. I would highly recommend staying here. The towns around were beautiful and had a lot to do, or you can really enjoy nature just by staying on site. Everyone was so nice and everything was extremely well taken care of!

I had a great experience at Sacred Roots. Although my stay was short (1 night), I felt absolutely welcomed. The campsites were well-maintained and spaced far enough apart to still feel fairly private. The port-o-potty had a regular servicing schedule, the outdoor shower was great (bring your own, biodegradable soap), and the grounds had lots of relaxing spaces to explore. I saw a young buck, plenty of rabbits, squirrels, and birds! The directions and rules were all very clear, so you could easily come to Sacred Roots without seeing a host. I did see Hillary, who was very kind, and her recommendation for dinner in town was also spot-on. The next time I'm in the Harper's Ferry/Sherperstown area, I'll definitely be back!
