Camping at Possum Holler Camp will provide you the perfect blend of solitude and recreation access. You will truly be in the heart of the New River National Park, yet still feel secluded in the beautiful woods without neighbors. You will have private access to beautiful and idyllic Mill Creek, which has many beautiful emerald pools and is even seasonally stocked with rainbow trout! Within a mile you can access the New River Gorge Bridge and the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, and you are equally close to the park's world class climbing, rafting, hiking, ziplining, and mountain biking at the New River Gorge National Park and surrounding areas. Your group will have the entire camp to yourselves, so there's no need to worry about noisy neighbors. Our driveway has recently been revamped to include more flat parking and a less steep access route! While these improvements are great, we still caution our guests to avoid bringing large trailers and to use 4WD if available in an attempt to minimize rutting in the future. Seasoned hardwood firewood is available on site for $6/bundle. You are allowed to bring your own firewood, but only if you source your firewood locally because invasive pest species can travel in firewood. Possum Holler Camp is a Leave No Trace campsite, guests are asked to pack out anything they bring in and leave the area undisturbed. This includes damaging vegetation, creating new fire rings, or altering the natural area in any way. Also, please do not camp in the meadow area and only use the cleared out areas in the woods surrounding the parking and picnic/fire area for pitching tents. If you stay below the high water line, then feel free to move as far up or downstream Mill Creek as you like. The creek is indescribably beautiful in both directions! But please keep in mind that there is private property once you are above the high water line, please do not trespass on our neighbor's property.Pitch your tent along picturesque Mill Creek, where you will have access to a picnic table, charcoal grill, fire ring, and camp chairs. A variety of fish live in the creek, including stocked trout - bring your pole! You will be the only group at the whole site - nearly three acres - so you get the feel of being secluded without losing quick access to amenities. The site is minutes from all of the best New River Gorge attractions. You won't find a more perfect blend of beautiful solitude and convenient access to recreation, shops, restaurants, and bars. The site includes a number of flat parking spaces for car campers and campervans.

The campsite at Possum Holler is a favorite among campers for its serene setting by a crystal-clear creek, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and exploration. Guests frequently mention the clean amenities, such as the well-maintained porta potty and picnic areas with tarps, which are thoughtful touches especially appreciated during rainy stays. The site's proximity to New River Gorge attractions is another highlight, allowing easy access to outdoor adventures while still feeling secluded. However, some guests have noted that the steep access road and unexpected proximity to ziplining activities may not be ideal for everyone.

Beautiful camp site, plenty of space to stretch out. River right near by, great background noise to fall asleep to. Proximity to NP is tough to beat. Matthew was very responsive, I booked the site when I found all the FCFS sites in the park were taken and Matthew was able to accommodate me and there was plenty of firewood

We absolutely loved this spot! I can't say enough good things about it. It's beautiful, the water is just steps away. It was a bit to cold for this trip but I definitely plan on making another trip this summer! The host Matthew was so kind and helped me with any questions I had super fast which I can appreciate. The porta potty was clean. We had a blast exploring the river. We had no problems getting to the site. The directions were really easy to follow. It felt safe and we barely saw any cars and if you do it's hard to really pay any mind to it. It's a great site I recommend it!

Possum Holler March stay
Tent · With pets
Possum Holler was a lovely campsite. It was very thoughtful of the host, Matthew, to provide a picnic table with a tarp overtop. The tarp proved super helpful during our rainy stay! The port o potty, fire ring and firewood for purchase were also nice amenities! Possum Holler was quiet and peaceful and feels so much more secluded than it is! It is conveniently close to New River Bridge/Gorge attractions , but in nestled in a lovely woodland site along the babbling creek and magical rhododendron undergrowth. I bet it is spectacular when the Rhododendron flowers bloom! The creek was a relaxing sound and was crystal clear with emerald pools. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others!
