At one time a 300 acre sorghum and cattle farm located on the West Virginia side of Peters Mountain. This property boasts a completely spring fed hydrology with a rich civil war era history in Monroe County. The farm house was originally constructed around 1850 utilizing White Oak and American Chestnut logs. The farm, Gaea Farm, sits about 1.5 miles from the Allegheny and Appalachian Trail convergence.

Mountain Farm
Gaea Farm is situated between two mountain ranges and spitting distance from there Appalachian Trail. Camp hosts Doug, April and their two boys were endlessly hospitable during our stay. Minutes after we arrived, Doug was offering us beers and giving us a tour of the land. After meeting all the animals and exploring their farmstead, we setup camp under bending branches near the bottom of their valley. Our toddler was quick to become friends with their boys and by the end of our stay, April and Doug, felt like long lost friends. The two farm-to-table meals featured many of the families homemade cheeses, farmstead produce and eggs fresh from their barn. They even made us ice cream! We can't wait to return in the future. I know the little one feels the same way. Make sure to take drive or bike ride north along 29/2. It's a perfect encapsulation of wild West Virginia.
