Earn this patch by being the first to spend a night outside at a new Hipcamp.
Stay beside the Cheat River at Friends of the Cheat’s primitive campground in Albright, West Virginia. The campground is a convenient basecamp for paddling the Cheat Canyon, hiking the Allegheny Trail, fishing, or simply spending a few quiet nights outdoors in central Preston County. The property is also home to the Cheat River Festival grounds, the Doug Ferris Outdoor Classroom, whitewater access to the Cheat Canyon, and a trailhead for the Allegheny Trail. This is a simple, rustic camping experience with vault-style toilets and potable water available. There are no electrical hookups, and generators are not permitted. Campsites are $20 per night for up to four people, or $10 per night for FOC members. Please camp only in the designated area before the gates. The campground is located at 139 Beech Run Road, Albright, WV 26519. Guests should practice Leave No Trace principles, pack out all trash, and leave the river and surrounding natural areas as they found them. Your stay supports Friends of the Cheat, a nonprofit organization that has worked since 1994 to restore, preserve, and promote the outstanding natural qualities of the Cheat River watershed.

These primitive camping sites run $20 a day for 4 occupants – FOC members pay $10! A self-service pay station is located beside the back gate to the Cheat River Festival site. A campground host is on site to assist with payment and RV needs. Camping is not allowed beyond the gates. Vault-style toilets and potable water are available – no electricity hookups – no generators allowed.
