The property we named GAEA (the old Greek spelling of Mother Earth) was first seen in a vision. Historically, Deep Creek Canyon was a winter encampment for the Spokane Indians, whose ancestral lands surround us. We feel the healing spirit of the land, in partnership and stewardship. We gather community for Solstice & Equinox celebrations, bringing people together to honor the changing seasons. Our original house was one of the first in the canyon, in the early 1940's. There’s a map that leads you to hidden features, like the gypsy fortune-telling tea house, a fairy mound at the base of a huge fir tree, a yoga platform, and a Buddha bench for contemplating or conversation.

Site#1 A Forest Glade A short hike up the trail with your gear (wheelbarrow provided) brings you to a beautiful tent site looking out over the north/south canyon with plenty of shade during the daylight hours, and a moonlit evening with softly hooting owls and distant coyotes. Pitch your tent either on the earth or on the 10x12 platform in the pine and fir forest for a relaxing vacation in Nature. A couple of hammocks invite a nap, or conversation. A big picnic table is a convenient place to cook on your portable stove. What’s a camp out without a fire? Unless there is a burn ban, you have a fire ring and complimentary bundle of wood, hotdog forks, and a water hose to make the evening uneventfully perfect. Bringing bottled drinking water is not necessary. Our water is filtered twice, once for PFAS. A tinkle tent ( exclusively for your site) is nearby. Two chairs and log bench are provided. At the FarOut House, a deluxe solar shower and pedestal sink keep you clean and refreshed. Sanitizer is by the sink. We have a “pack it in pack it out” policy as well as “leave no trace.” Your hosts, however, will take care of the toilet. Daytime walks can lead you to a fairy garden, a stone labyrinth, a sweet “tea house”, yoga platform, and many meditation spots. Our 10 acres have been a delightful retreat from the busy-ness of urban life. Easy to get to. Near Spokane and Airway Heights. I check messages at 5:00pm. Please book far enough in advance for me to get back to you. This woodsy site is bigger than site #1, has two hammocks, an 10x12 deck and is closer to the FarOutHouse. We’ve added a 16 ft (diameter) tipi to sleep in. Also we added a sturdy swing that overlooks the camp. This is a great spot for family camping. (If you are looking for more deluxe accommodations for two, or a glamping experience, check out our yurt on the Hipcamp site under Yurt at GAEA Getaways). #2 Relaxed Family camping Nestle in the tall pines of Deep Creek canyon, relax in the hammocks, and sleep in a traditional 16 ft wide tipi. Bring a tent if you want more sleeping space. Just a 7 minute walk slightly uphill (wheelbarrow provided, and I have a golf cart that can help) on a beautiful trail to the private campsite. Cook on your own stove, bring your own bedding. Fall asleep listening to the nearby great horned owls, distant howls of coyotes, turkeys and night-hawks, and get an idea of simple pleasures of sleeping close to the earth ( a tent space on one 10x10 platform, and a hand painted traditional tipi ) in a beautiful pine and fir forest. We provide a private picnic table, a fire bowl and two extra chairs. This site is bigger than site#1, accommodates up to 7, has two sleeping areas, and is closer to the Far Out House. In keeping with our permaculture practices, a sawdust toilet is available in the FarOut House. Fire prevention and drinking water from a hose has been filtered twice, one for PFAS. A deluxe solar shower and pedestal sink keep you clean and refreshed. Sanitizer, soap, and paper towels are by the sink. You will be sharing the outhouse with Site#1. We have a “pack it in pack it out” policy as well as “leave no trace.” Your hosts, however, will take care of the toilet. Daytime walks can lead you to the creek, a fairy garden, a stone labyrinth, a sweet “tea house”, yoga platform, and many meditation spots. Our 10 forested acres have been a delightful retreat from the busy-ness of urban life.

Just 20 minutes from Downtown Spokane, and 15 minutes from the airport (GEG). One Continental breakfast included. One queen-size bed complete with bedding and a private sawdust toilet/pedestal sink in this beautiful Pacific Yurt. Continue your yoga routine on a deck deep in the woods. Enjoy a cup of tea in the gypsy fortune-telling camper, and discover the fairy mound around a giant fir tree. Just 10 minutes drive to biking, hiking, rock climbing, and river sports at Riverside State Park.

What a beautiful and wonderful place to stay! It had way more accommodations and things that were included that I didn’t even realize about until we arrived! Amazing! Jane is such a sweet host and truly went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and special! I will be recommending this spot to my friends and family and hope to be returning for years to come! 😍

I just wanted to take a moment to share how incredible our stay was. This was our second visit at such a remarkable place and we decided to share it with our entire family! (which only goes to show how amazing our first trip was!!) From the moment we arrived, Jane and John went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. We decided to have our baby shower here to welcome our son Wolfgang to the pack! Upon arrival Jane & John didn't just welcome us, they made us feel like family. They even set up two canopies for the rain, ensuring we could still celebrate comfortably, which we did! It's rare to find people who genuinely care about your experience the way they do. Everything about the campsite reflected their hard work and dedication to a clean, organized, and beautifully maintained campground, and the hospitality is like no other. You can feel the care, attention, and heart that goes into every detail. This was more than just a stay, it was an experience we'll never forget. Thank you again Jane and Jon, for everything. Jane goes above and beyond! She even helped my daughter when she hurt her finger in the car door. The donkeys and the owls were a wonderful addition to our stay. Lovely spot to begin our journey to the coast.

Jane, John, and Tony are fantastic hosts. Gaea is beautiful and they take fantastic care of the peaceful surroundings. If you choose to stay at the tent site #1 you also get a great view of rescue donkeys!

This was my first Hipcamp experience and honestly it’s going to be tough to top. Jane was such a pleasure to meet and talk with about the property and surrounding area. It’s the details that make this truly unique and enjoyable. This place has been created by someone with an artist’s eye. My site was perfect for tent camping and preparing the meals for dinner and breakfast. A sturdy deck to put my tent on, a robust picnic table and chairs available. It’s a very short walk up to the unique bath house filled with fun memorabilia. Running water for the sink and shower (which when you time right, has HOT water!) I thoroughly enjoyed my short time here and would go back in a heartbeat.

We loved getting to stay here! The hay and blankets inside of the tipi were wonderful. There was a little rain one night and we were still nice and cozy. Jane was so helpful and thoughtful - she even left us some eggs for breakfast. They were delicious and such a thoughtful add. Our only regret is that we weren’t able to stay longer. Definitely would stay here again the next time we are near Spokane!

I stayed in tent site #1. Absolutely wonderful place to stay. The shower and bath were fun and comfortable. I loved roaming the trails, taking in the forethought and creativity that the owner pit into this special place. I will be returning for a much longer stay.

Jane’s land is beautiful and a very welcome escape from the city. Though only a quick drive to gas and food spots, we truly felt the peace and quiet of the woods. Her directions for arriving are very detailed and clear, and once we arrived, she helped direct us to our site and carry our heavy stuff up to the tent spot. We greatly appreciated the “far out house,” for a sink with running water, sawdust toilet, and the solar shower—a new experience for us! As is the case with ANY camping spot, come prepared for mosquitoes and gnats! We enjoyed meeting Jane and her dog Tony, and we would love to stay here again, especially for a longer time!

We were thrilled with our experience! It surpassed our expectations and we were expecting to love it. Jane was kind and joyful to share her property. The outdoor bathroom and shower were spotless and hippie in all the best ways. The tent campsite was so clean, and the platform made tent setup a breeze. I highly recommended this experience.

Our camp was private and peaceful. The outdoor bathroom was just a short walk away and very clean and well stocked. Jane came by to give us a lift on the golf cart with our stuff, and that made set up a breeze. Lots of nice details like two hammocks in the trees, some fire starters, a food scrap bucket, a map, a personal toilet tent… Our backpacking tent is not free standing, but he had no problems getting set up on the platform. Beautiful, quiet location situated near enough to Spokane to make day trips easy and fun - we came to see Jaws on 35 mm at the Garland Theater, and Jane’s place was absolutely perfect for us. 10/10 would camp here again!

We loved our time at Jane’s place. We had both site #1 and #2 booked for our large group and they were both fantastic. Between the two sites, there are a total of two wooden platforms for tents, a large tipi that 4 of us comfortably slept in (although it could probably fit up to 5-6 people), and we found one or two additional flat areas that were adequate for setting up tents. Do note, the entire property is on a slight hill, and Jane has beautifully created level areas for fires, picnic tables, etc, but there are only a couple additional “natural” flat areas. The “far-out house” was awesome; very clean, comfortable, and well equipped. Also note, the tipi is not 100% bug proof and the hole in the canvas at the top where all the wooden poles come together does allow rain in. We stayed in the tipi multiple nights and had absolutely no problem though. We only noticed mosquitos at our campsite (not inside the tipi) for about an hour or so one evening, besides that the entire area was pretty bug-less, as we had a gentle breeze up on the hill most of the time. A few of us had intermittent, unstable, low-bar signal on our phones up at the tipi site. It’s about a 5-10 min drive out onto a main road for cell service and amenities (convenience stores, etc). Jane was communicative and accommodating. She graciously helped us transport a few large, heavy loads of our camping equipment in her golf cart. We would definitely stay at Jane’s place again in future!

Absolutely loved this spot! Jane and her husband were so accommodating and sweet :) their land they have is beautiful and they’ve really made the most of the camp sites they’ve created. The campsite we stayed in came with 1 bundle complimentary wood and fire starters, sticks to roast marshmallows, a cute bench fixed with blankets for cushion, chairs, and best of all, FILTERED WATER spout right at our site. Definitely one of the top places i’ve stayed on hipcamp. This area felt so safe as well, i’d even consider coming back and camping alone! (im 23F) They had such cool things to walk around and look at too. The outhouse they built with a shower/toilet/sink was very nice! Highly recommend!

Campsite was so nice ! The overall layout was very very cool. Private campsites and a great place to do your business 💩 the shower was very cool too outside, one with nature. Yet private. I now understand why she calls it the “farout” house. Cuz it was pretty cool. 5 out of 5 stars deff would poop there again. Jane was very helpful kind and willing to make sure we have the best time we followed the trails to other sites and crossed a cute little bridge and checked out her fairy garden the kids loved it all so much. We will 100% be staying here again.

Jane and John have the most unique and welcoming space to share with others. Their passions and personal lived experiences are shown through their land as they have been there tending and caring for the earth for many years. Tent site 2 was at the end of the path into the woods and it felt secluded by the tall trees and dense cover of the forest. One day there were at least a dozen turkeys that walked by. The bathrooms are comically decorated and permaculture friendly with an outdoor shower to gaze upon the beautiful forest beyond. There are many little paths that lead to elements within the forest like the fairy tree, the Gypsy Rose trailer, a yoga platform, and a buddha bench. Their space is located down a few miles of dirt road and just outside a town that will have all the food and any other amenities you may need. I had an exceptional time and most certainly will be staying again.

Yurt Glamping at Gaea Getaways
Our visit to Gaea Yurt was wonderful! Jane was a great host. She was very thoughtful and kind. We came to the Spokane area for a concert at northern quest to see Michael Franti and the yurt was 10 minutes away. Jane also told us about a rock climbing area 10 minutes down the road and we spent the afternoon exploring it. Our weekend getaway was perfect right down to the Gypsy fortune trailer!

A great spot. Jane met me at the bottom of the hill and drove my camping gear up to my camp site. My friend joined me for the second night of camping and we used the wheelbarrow to haul his gear to our camp and the next day when breaking down camp. This is a rustic camp sot , which is what I like! No RVs with all their lights and generators. The neighbor Jack ass was my alarm clock one morning;. I saw the same doe and her two yearlings each day, the second morning they walked right next to our camp. The first night I heard a distant owl. Now I know where I can camp when visiting Spokane or in this case the bluegrass festival.

Simple beautiful property! We only stayed for a night as we were passing through. We stayed in campsite #2 and would definitely go back for a longer trip! Campsite was very spacious and private but a small trek to get uphill (don't worry though! Jane has a golf cart and very graciously offered to take our stuff to our site and wait for us. She did offer to give one of us a ride cause she had room but we wanted to walk). Toilet/outhouse was nice to use as well despite or being saw dust! It was private and has a (cold) shower I enjoyed using the following morning. Please DO call Jane though 20 minutes before you arrive!! Cellphone service drops quickly and is no existent and you WILL NOT know where to go if you do not call. We didn't get lost or anything, but it was the one request she had/has and you should just respect that ❤️🏕️
