After Matt’s career in lumber wholesaling and Susan’s in environmental activism, getting back to the land has meant planting thousands of trees, thinning and pruning to optimize stand health, and looking through life’s long lens with an awareness that we only care for a parcel a brief while then pass it on. In sharing our love of this place, in welcoming others to walk, play or to sit quietly in the forest, or at river shore, like a rising tide, we’re all lifted. Learn more about this land: A 30 acre riverfront forest with campsite, a fire pit and our welcome to wander alongside Pend Oreille River frontage. All enjoyed in solitude. The 719 acre farm is operated by elders who revere the out-of-doors, believing immersion in nature naturally, quietly teaches. It makes for better humans-being. Hipcamp dollars support natural means of improving soil health on the farm. Camper's choice of homemade cinnamon rolls or scones on the first morning, a 16x16' tent platform, Separette toilet, potable water, dock for fishing or foot dangling, warm-weather-(ambient)-heated water for rinse-off (sort-of showering) and a canoe to enjoy. A well-controlled, four-legged companion that can be trusted to not chase wildlife would also be welcome. *Please let host know in-advance of intention to bring a pet. We ask that no fireworks or firearms be brought or used onsite. Because wildfire risk is almost always a concern. the fire pit, equipped with kindling and dry tinder (plus water to dowse) may not always be permissible. We suggest campers come equipped with binoculars, mosquito repellent and this year particularly, please be tick-aware. Bear-spray may be brought along for added insurance, although we've never had to use our own. An acceptance of risk/hold-harmless waiver of liability will be provided all campers & their guests upon booking, returned to host at time of visitation (or prior preferably).A thirty-acre forest alongside the second largest river in Washington State holds a single HipCamp site. A mowed driving path for vehicles or a small RV allows passage through tall grass rimming the single sprawling campsite. In the woods, a fire pit (when permitted), picnic table and private trails are alongside 1-mile of Pend Oreille River frontage. All enjoyed in solitude. Bonus? No poisonous snakes in this river valley. The 719 acre farm-forest is stewarded by a community of friends who revere the out-of-doors and believe time in nature makes us all better people. Hipcamp dollars support natural means of improving soil health on the farm. Cinnamon rolls on the first morning, a 16x16' tent platform, camp-toilet (which involves some education on use); potable water, dock for fishing or foot dangling, solar-heated or campfire-heated water for rinse-off camp showering and a canoe are yours to enjoy. Controlled pets are welcome. Given the wildlife abundance, control of pets is imperative. Bring mosquito repellent, bear spray and your binoculars to get your nature high. Signing a hold-harmless/acceptance of risk waiver of liability will be asked of all guests.

Toilet available

Calling what we offer a "toilet" may be a stretch really. There's a three sided enclosure with toilet seat, a device that easily separates urine from solids, beneath which there's a bucket into which a capture bag allow for host removal after your stay. A bit indelicate granted, but in nature it's a way to address natural function.

Showers available

There's a wooden grate to stand upon, a privacy blanket and a solar-heated water dispenser that is adequate for a rinse-off each day. However, the water supply is modest.

Bins available

Trash bin. Site includes a garbage can for waste generated while camping. When not present, foodstuffs should be placed in your vehicle to prevent squirrel, coyote or bear from thievery or vandalism. The waste from human elimination will be dealt with by hosts after visitors have departed. Pets should be watched-after so trails don't find folks stepping in left-behind solids.

This was our very first hipcamp experience, and we loved it so much thanks to the outstanding location, solitude, and amenities in the camp area! Susan and Matt were amazing hosts, welcoming, and full of facts about the area and their beautiful farm. The camp location is ideal for privacy, with everything we needed. We were treated to sights of an elk, deer, and squirrel. Believe all the great reviews, because they are true!

Spent the weekend at Matt and Susan’s campsite with my two boys for our annual father/son camp out and we couldn’t be more pleased. The campsite itself was wonderfully situated in a shady grove of trees with a large tent platform, fire pit, and huge picnic table. Access to the river was just a short 1min walk from the campsite and we thoroughly enjoyed swimming and canoeing. Matt and Susan were gracious and attentive hosts, meeting us when we arrived and showing us to the camp site but otherwise gave us our privacy. They even showed us around the property, the saw mill, and the old barn. And The cinnamon rolls were warm and delicious! Both my boys and I agree that we’ll be back next summer for our next father son camp out!

You want to camp here!

This place is amazing! I almost want to say negative things so that I can keep it to myself. Susan and Matt are great hosts and they have created a wonderful camping space on their property. The river is calm enough in this area for paddleboarding and the amount of wildlife we were able to observe was awesome. Highly recommend!

Where to even begin. Susan & Matt we’re absolutely wonderful in every way. The pastries were the best we’d ever had and just above & beyond. If you appreciate being alive, being in love , loving history and preservation of a sacred space! This is the spot for you. We can’t wait to visit again!

A slice of PNW camping heaven!

This site is a little bit of heaven! Tucked in the woods with the river on one side and a large flowering meadow on a historic homestead, you feel far away from it all. Susan and Matt, are gracious and thoughtful hosts, and Susan's baked breakfasts are amazing. We enjoyed our time here. One day we just hung out at the docks, catching fish, swimming, canoeing, and just relaxing. Would definitely recommend and hope to come again.

The peace and quiet were wonderful! The baked goods were such a treat! I love that it is a private campsite with no neighbors. The dock was wonderful to sit and read a book. Enjoyed the canoe and even our dog (Buster) went for a swim and a ride!

What an amazing experience. Susan and Matt have a lovely slice of paradise along the Pend Oreille River in Ione, WA. Highly recommend this site. Worth a detour out of the way to experience such a serene location. The cinnamon rolls in the morning were outstanding. We will be back!

Beautiful scenery and amazing souls

Susan and Matt are two of the most amazing people we have ever met. Our stay was incredible, and it was entirely because of Susan and Matt. In 4 short days we felt like we had made new best friends, we will absolutely be staying again and soon. I truly cannot overstate how amazing this property and the people who own it are. You will be lucky to get to stay here and enjoy the experience. Thank you soo much for such an amazing stay, we can’t wait to see you two again soon!

Matt and Susan are wonderful hosts, easy going and engaging. They have a beautiful area with river access, a hammock, fire pit and platform if your tent camping. We had a nice level spot for our van and the cinnamon rolls were amazing! Can't wait to head back for another visit

Seek and ye shall find

Searching with the intension of peace, tranquility and nature we were guided to Cinnamon Rolls & Solitude. There are those special places and people that you find in life that are so amazing and awe inspiring that you almost can’t believe they are real or that you are worthy enough to find them. This place and these people are the real deal. I could have happily stayed here the rest of my life without much contemplation. The pictures and the words just don’t do it justice. The campsite was much more than we ever expected. To say we were “wowed” is a major understatement. The hosts were so warm and gracious that by the end of the weekend they seemed like family. Family I really like and want to visit often :) With nature all around us it was not hard to find the recharging and reconnection we have been missing. What will be hard is to pick a favorite moment or memory that you make here. From watching the pollinators work the wide-open fields of wildflowers, to listening to the songs of birds and playing Name That Tune; even the flowing river high and swift only adds a bit of drama to the dream that is this place. You have only to ask, and you will not find better concierge service even at a 4-star hotel. Susan truly cares about your comfort and happiness. If food is your love language, then you will fall in love here to be sure. Her baked goods rival those found in any professional bakery. The only downside to staying here is that you will never want to leave.
