This 40 Acre parcel has been in my family since the 1870's when my Great^4 grandparents homesteaded it. For the first 50 years or so, It was used as a hay field and cattle pasture, but it has been managed as a tree farm ever since and we are still doing periodic selective harvests. It was handed down through the paternal family to my Great Uncle, who passed away in 2013 and deeded it to my 2nd cousin in the will. My Dad and I bought it from my cousin, who lives in Arizona, together. Then my Wife and I bought my Dad out with our share of the profits from our first commercial thinning. Although I plan to do some minor harvesting in the future, I no longer intend to do any clearcutting. Selective harvests only. I hope that campers will make ample use of windfalls and other debris to keep the fire risk low. I also use the property as a release site for wildlife caught as part of my urban nuisance wildlife business.

Super Private Beautiful Site
We had a wonderful time at the R&R Retreat! The property is beautiful and expansive with lots of trails for wandering. The forested site is beautiful! Trees are spaced perfectly for hanging hammocks, lots of great options to place your tent and outfitted with a picnic table and fire ring. It was so peaceful…just heard cows mooing and frogs. The adjoining meadow is also a great place to see the stars. The porta-potty was very clean and convenient. It is 15 minutes from Millersylvania Park which has great swimming and a beer garden! This is the nicest Hipcamp I have seen and stayed at. I highly recommend Jack’s place set in the rolling hills west of Centralia.

Such an awesome site. Totally secluded. Host is super friendly and helpful but not intrusive at all. Renting the ATVs is a highlight every time. Tons of hiking trails, beautiful stars at night. So much fun.

Gorgeous 20 minute-ish drive in from Centralia that made a great overnight stop on the way to Olympic NP. Campsite was perfectly situation at the top of a hill with beautiful views of the valley. Far enough away from the city to have a beautiful showing of stars, and I even saw a shooting star! Private, well-maintained, and easy to find with good signs to get you to camp. Lovely property overall. Good communication from host.

Beautiful property with a splendid mix of forests and meadows. Our family loved the trails running through the land! The bathroom was clean, garbage can and picnic table functional, and host very responsive. We found some great swimming spots within a 20 min drive for a bonus. Late check out time (3pm) was super nice as we didn't need to touch to pack up the day we left

Peaceful camp in the pine trees
Perfect campsite. Nice flat ground plenty large enough to lay our 6 person tent down (for just two people and a dog). Jack was very helpful and we were able to buy some nice firewood from him when we realized we didn’t bring enough. Some ATV noise when we got there but that was expected from the previous reviews. It wasn’t a bother, just something to be aware of. Two pretty clean portapotties. Clear directions, we had no problem finding the place, but make sure you take screenshots of what you might need as we had no cell service there (ideal for camping and unplugging). We are definitely looking forward to returning!

Exactly what we were looking for…
Jack’s property was just what we needed to get away from noise, wifi and humans. He had even more ‘amenities’ than we expected, with a full picnic bench and a little shed of odds and ends from saws to camping chairs. We wandered the trails on his property and it was some of the most beautiful forest I’ve ever seen. The stars at night were shining bright and we woke up to nothing but the birds chirping. The camping location was set in a perfectly cleared area with towering trees that offered total shade on a warm day. It was lovely, and I will absolutely be back.

Outstanding Washington backcountry
Jack's property is an absolutely gorgeous 40 acres surrounded by hugely more acres of accessible logging land. Be ready for beginner through intermediate hikes, or just relax at the campsite. The terrain is varied, hilly, densely forested, and you will want to be careful with your navigation - you can get lost here if you are careless. Or maybe if you just want to! It's pretty enough. As I approached the 4WD accessible site, Jack zoomed up to me on an ATV, and I got an immediate tour - everything from hilltop meadows, through dense forested trails hard even for the ATV to just roll through. He was an exceptionally courteous, diligent, and attentive host. The site itself was very pleasant, maintained in a way that added to ease and pleasure of camping without removing the natural aspect of the experience. In particular, if you are a trail runner, you will *love* this place, as long as you are comfortable scouting your path first, and you are intermediate level. I cannot recommend this place more.

We had a blast! Thanks Jack.
Lovely place to camp! We have stayed at quite a bit of hipcamps around the country and this one has now been added to our fav/highly recommend lists. The drive there was lovely though farms, fields, and woods. Jack was an extremely attentive and helpful host. He has a super beautiful and clean wooded property. So many places to set up a tent or RV. Lots of trails. The sounds of nature and seeing wild life was heavenly. Someone saw a big beautiful deer. Everything is extremely private, safe and intimate. We didn’t need to deal with a larger number of other campers and noise. The portapotty was super clean. Also provided was a picnic table, fire pit, trash can, and tools. We are hammock people so the trees had some nice options for set up. Also the spot we were in the trees protected us a bit from the rain (low drizzle). Pretty much you are set up well to have a nice experience. BUT what we loved the most was the ATV rentals. My daughters had so much fun driving through the trails. Tips: bring enough water and wood is only $1 per log.

Nice big space that accommodated our group of 11! The trees provided some natural shade which was nice since it was a 90 degree day when we were there. There are lots of trails for exploring and it's a very secluded area, it was nice having the forest to ourselves. At night we walked out into the open field and laid in the grass and did some star gazing, it was so beautiful! We will definitely be back again.

An Annual Tradition
This was our 2nd trip, returning after last year, and we again had a total blast. There was a little more noise this time with people driving around the property on ATVs and we heard a chainsaw for a few hours, but honestly it wasn’t bad and that’s the only downside. The property is beautiful with tons of shade, lots of trails to walk, and a big open field to play games or stargaze (we saw lots of shooting stars!). Jack was sure to check on us at least once per day to make sure we were set up, and otherwise we had total privacy and lots of room to ourselves. We’re coming back again later this summer and want to make this an annual spot. Thank you again to Jack for the great place and being a wonderful host!!

Beautiful, spacious location that is perfect for a larger group. My family and friends have been getting together for our annual Labor Day camping trip 30+ years and this is one of the best locations so far. We were able spread out and still feel close together, with a great area to enjoy our potluck and sit around the fire together. Everyone had lots of fun with the quad rentals driving around the property. Jack and his family are gracious hosts who joined us for our potluck and contributed pizza. I have visited the location twice now, once with 3 people and then again leading the large Labor Day group. R&R retreat is a versatile space that can be shared and enjoyed by many group sizes.

This was a lovely secluded spot for some R&R! There were lots of trails to explore and the camp spot was big and spacious! The only downside was having two large dogs run up into the campsite, and get into my things and food. I was traveling with my cat, so this was stressful - thankfully I was traveling in a camper van, and was able to put him up away from the dogs. It took a half hour trying to chase them out. The host had warned that once every two weeks or so they get loose. Just a heads up if you’re not a fan of dogs!

Extremely private and relaxing! I went with a group of 11 other friends for a weekend. Jack came down to make sure we had everything we needed and then we had the whole place to ourselves for the weekend. We loved exploring the trails in the woods. The neighbor dogs ended up keeping us company most of the trip.

So good I had to come back again!
This is my second stay at Jack’s property because it offers the simplicity and quiet that are so hard to come by when camping in state and county parks. I brought my dog this time and she had a blast. Jack is a most gracious host. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with plenty of trails to explore and a great open field for stargazing, this is a great choice.
