RV hookup woods & lake on Whidbey
The HipCamp site made it look like there were two sites well enough apart to have privacy, but the tent site was directly behind the RV site. Thankfully there were no tent campers otherwise they would have been going through our site to get out. The RV site is a small clearing next to the hosts house and it was not cleared enough to avoid the risk of brushing up against stinging nettles or to have adequate space. The available toilet was a small, basically trash can with a bag in it that was placed in the tent site for us and is definitely not compostable. The site is in a wooded area but also on a street with several houses so it wasn’t as private as it seemed on the HipCamp site.
It was nice to be able to have an electricity hookup to the hosts house though. And the lake access was very nice to have. A big plus if you paddle board and kayak.

Ok - not a destination stay. But good for a night. Owner was very friendly and the site is clean and flat. We had a Toyota 4Runner and it seemed to be all the parking space could handle. Not very private.

Kate was very sweet, showed us around the trails and beach, and we talked gardening which warmed my heart <3 Wonderful quiet spot in the woods, good drainage so you don't have to worry about sleeping in a puddle - and there's great canopy cover from a couple large Cedars. It rained lightly, but barely anything made it to the ground. Nice short walks on woodsy trails. There was intermittent noise from a gun club a couple miles away, but still overall a very quiet and relaxing woodsy spot. 3-minute walk to the lake (good wading or swimming, plus portapotty access at lake), and there's a bucket/compost toilet at campsite. 'Primitive' but totally comfy and fine, if that's your style.

We showed up for our camping trip and did not feel that the advertised camping spot was what we expected, we left and did not stay due to this. We expected to have direct access to the water, this is NOT on the lake. The spot is parking in the hosts driveway with their mobile home adjacent. If you’re just looking for a place to stop for the night and I think this would be fine. If you’re looking for a weekend camping trip with your family this is not the spot.

Kate, the host, was so sweet and very welcoming upon arrival. Unfortunately, the site was not what my group of campers was expecting. We show up and the site is basically in the host's driveway. there is some privacy as it is several feet from the driveway, but from the pictures, I felt we didn't get what we expected. The bathroom was a bucket and the water was from a hose. We were a little ways away from the water, but it was very close and enjoyable.

Pros: Quiet wooded dead end street, one of three driveways on the end. Very friendly attentive host with good local tips. Central location on S Whidbey, drive <30 minutes to multiple beaches and state parks and both ferries. Tent site is under magical circle of huge old growth trees. Small private lake entrance at other end of road.
Cons: Basically just boondocking parking in a small somewhat overgrown driveway a few feet from (quiet) road - fine if just there to sleep but you’re not going to set up camp if in an RV and if tent campers are there, little privacy since they’re parked and walking through same spot. No fires or outdoor cooking. Tricky backing in for us in 25’ trailer, need to first drive up neighbors driveway across road and sort of zig zag back in. Bring levelers.

The RV/camper space is simply a parking space alongside the driveway. There is no room to spread out outside as you step out onto the driveway you share with the other campers. The tent space looks nice and is just a few steps away from the driveway as well.

Kate is a great host, she helped us get settled and gave us directions on how to get to popular beaches and hikes. It feels like you are in the middle of the forest when you are camping at her site and being able to walk to the lake is a bonus. We saw a bald eagle grab a fish out of the lake right in front of us- I would 100% stay here again.

Pros: good location in the middle of island. Nice flat cleared space. Possibly close to the lake (didn't visit). Single site, so no hipcamp neighbors. You can see deers
Cons: no(or sporatic) cell signal. Strange multiple animal noises that kinda freaked me out at first, sounded like distressed pigs, and barking deer or something like that, I have no idea. Can hear neighbors if they're doing stuff(generator, music, etc - but didn't bother me since it was a short period of time). Nettles on the entrance of the site can irritate your skin if you touch them, beware!

We had a great time staying at this campsite. We parked near the house and it was just a few yards into the trees for a quiet, peaceful place to set up our tent. It was well shaded and comfortable no matter how hot it was outside. A short walk down the road there is a small park at the shore of the lake with tables and a port-a-potty. It was a very relaxing stay, and we definitely recommend it.

Great camping experience at Sanctuary Woods and Lake. The surrounding area was so quite and peaceful the only noise I heard were birds singing and the breeze rustling through the trees. My host, Kate, greeted me upon arrival and was very helpful getting me situated with parking and electrical hook-up to her home. This property is secluded and cell phone reception (AT&T Mobility) was spotty when I had to call the host due to my GPS losing it's signal.
Special note to RV'er's - The property can only comfortably accommodate a campervan or Class B motorhome (not B+.) Be sure to bring at least a 100 foot heavy duty extension cord and a 15amp adapter for the 30amp of power from your rig. All and all a lovely and welcoming experience.

Great place to stay for the night. The host, Kate, was very welcoming and had many great recommendations of things to do in the area. Lake access is just a short walk from the property.
Private and secluded even with the host on site. My main recommendation is to bring a table of some sort if you are car camping. There is no picnic table on site, but there is one down by the lake.

Sanctuary Woods is a perfect location if you're looking for a spot secluded in the woods for a nice quiet evening. The tent camping is tucked away beside the house, where it can easily accommodate smaller tents (2-4 persons) and even though the main house is footsteps away, you feel secluded and in a private space with trees and the brush. Be careful while walking around in the beautiful woods beside Kate's place- we noticed a bit of poison ivy you might want to watch for and avoid walking around with sandals/open shoes. We did not see this in the campsites, but near the woods. The RV space on Kate's land can easily accommodate a larger sized RV as well- our van being 16 feet long and we probably could've parked another right behind us. Kate, the owner was lovely- she recommended an event at the local library, as she knew I was a photographer. In addition, she was incredibly welcoming and kind upon arrival. The spot Kate recommends down the road is a great place to spend some time if you're looking for a picnic table to play some cards or eat dinner. There is no bathroom on-site, but Kate mentioned getting one for her HipCampers soon. If you arrive before then, the nearest bathroom is a 5 min walk to the picnic area, where a porta-potty was located. My husband and I slept so well as it was so quiet- all you heard were frogs croaking in the night- no road noise- just the noises of nature.
