Forty acres of private, off-grid homestead at 3,600 ft elevation in the Tunk Valley, just outside Riverside in the heart of Okanogan County. A working homestead with bees and a garden — not a manicured campground, but the real thing. The property sits in one of the darkest sky corridors in Washington State. On clear nights you'll see the Milky Way horizon to horizon, and aurora borealis sightings are common in season. Bring a camera. The landscape is rolling hills, pine, tamarack, and fir forests, and wide-open field with long views across the valley. White tail deer, moose, black bears, wild turkeys, quail, hawks, all move through the property and surrounding area — wildlife sightings are an everyday thing here. Crawfish Lake and the Okanogan River are both a short drive away for fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. High-speed Starlink internet is available on the main homestead grounds for guests who need to stay connected — remote workers welcome. Cell coverage is available, but might be spotty at peak usage times. A shared water cistern, portable toilet facilities, and emergency power access are available on-site for guests. Ask about guided homestead experiences when you book.

Tunk Valley Secluded Forest Tent #1

Tent site · Sleeps 4
Pull up, park, and a short 10-minute hike brings you to your own secluded camping spot on a private fire break line surrounded by pines, tamarack, and fir on our 40-acre homestead in Upper Tunk Valley. This is a real backcountry experience — moose, deer, and turkeys might just wake you up in the morning. Bear spray is strongly recommended. There are cougars in the area, though I haven't seen one or any sign of one on my 40 acres in over 10 years. Spring campers: bears are most active March through June coming out of hibernation and actively foraging. Bear spray is not optional — it is essential. Hang or store all food, toiletries, and scented items in your vehicle, never in your tent. Be safe. Be smart. Your host has proper training and firearms to assist in a dire emergency. A quick text with "BEAR" or "COUGAR" will get my IMMEDIATE attention. Zero light pollution — one of the best aurora and stargazing locations in Washington. Minutes from Crawfish Lake for fishing, swimming, and kayaking. BYO everything — tent, sleeping gear, food, water, and bear spray. Store all food in your vehicle. This is active bear country. Ask about add-on experiences: beekeeping tours, rockhounding, and off-grid homesteading workshops.

Upper Tunk Valley Remote RV Spot #1

RV/tent site · Sleeps 4 · Vehicles under 30 ft
Bring your RV or trailer to a level pad on a private 40-acre homestead in the Tunk Valley at 3,600 ft elevation. Starlink internet available on the main homestead grounds. Shared water cistern and portable toilet facilities provided. The Tunk Valley is one of the best aurora viewing locations in the lower 48. At 3,600 ft elevation with zero light pollution and unobstructed northern horizons, even moderate geomagnetic storms produce vivid displays here. During periods of heightened solar activity - which we actively monitor via spaceweather.com - guests have seen greens, purples, and reds dancing across the entire sky. The current solar cycle (Cycle 25) is near its peak through 2025-2026, making aurora sightings more frequent than they've been in over a decade. We notify guests when solar flare activity and geomagnetic conditions suggest a show is likely, so you know when to stay up and look north. Emergency power access if needed. Quiet, private, and remote — exactly the way you want it. Great for extended stays, seasonal workers, or anyone looking to disappear for a while. Crawfish Lake and the Okanogan River a are a short drive away for fishing, swimming, and kayaking. Wildlife viewing opportunities include white tail deer, moose, black bears, wild turkeys, quail, hawks, eagles, owls, and all the small critters.
