Camp Hollister and Lake Cushman!
We booked this site as a last minute getaway for Labor Day weekend and shortly after booking, discovered all local lake Cushman access and access to the popular Staircase trails were closed/restricted along with a fire ban implemented. Bill however was a gracious host and was good with quick communications so we could plan accordingly.
Bill also accommodated our request to have our well mannered dog on board. While we were initially looking forward to all the outdoor recreation, we were grateful that Bill's property came with Private lake and park access.
The site worked well for our party of 2 (plus dog) however we were surprised to see how much it lacked privacy. The trailer is situated on a side lot shared with a main House/cabin (occupied by tenants). Behind the trailer is second Hipcamp space Bill rents out for RV/Tent campers. The property sits amongst a community dotted by cabins, empty lots, trailers, and residential along the main road. Although everyone was friendly the site is wide open to both roads.
The trailer itself had an excellent Floorplan and works best for 2 adults or 2 adults and small children. We did not utilize the trailer to the full capacity except as home base for sleeping and restroom.
Pros- Cute community with amazing private lake access. Everyone was very friendly. That alone was worth the stay and price. It also has an awesome "camp" feel set up with picnic table, community propane grill and fire pit (due to burn ban, we used our portable propane pit). We also appreciated Hot water showers after a day of swimmimg. Good WIFI while on property which helped us to look at maps and plan our day excursions-okay so we weren't totally off grid. And can i just say PRIVATE LAKE CUSHMAN ACCESS! What a beautiful lake!
Con- (very minor)
While this is a lot in a private community nestled among covering trees, the space was not private at all. The trailer was also lacking some commodities to be fully functional- but we were prepared and managed with what we packed in. We arrived to find a few issues with cleanliness in the trailer and on the grounds itself and reported it right away.
Lastly all of the private community parks and lake access required passes and were actively patrolled. You have to have Bill's decal pass or make sure you get a pass for ALL DAYS- we missed out on access for Labor Day itself which ended our stay earlier upon check out.
Suggestions to Host-
Please keep basics like cleaning supplies and handsoap for those that like to keep spaces clean and germ free throughout their stay. Also having a few kitchen staples on hand is a must when camping or trailer camping-foil, scissor, can opener, microwave safe bowls/plates/cups, and soup and sauce pans. Lastly please add detailed maps to the private parks and trails around the community.
Again cons always are tough to write but none of the above would negate our experience- we definitely would love to come back and stay again soon and longer.
