Nestled in Greenbank, Washington, Fern Gully, is an old horse farm that has been transformed into a Hip Camp. We’re delighted to welcome you back to our farm in 2025! We have installed new signage to facilitate site identification. Many of you were familiar with my sister, Morgan. She has recently relocated to Texas. My name is Erin. My boyfriend, Dave, and I reside in the farmhouse. My mother, Lauren, also makes her home here. We have discovered several exceptional camping spots on our 15-acre property. Immerse yourself in the tranquility of the forest or lounge in our stargazing hammock circle. During the summer months, from July to September, our farm will be ablaze with seasonal fruit, including blackberries, cherries, apples, and salmonberries. Our expansive fields and wooded surroundings are also home to a diverse array of wildlife, such as bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, barn swallows, quail, and their offspring. Deer and occasional coyotes roam the property, but rest assured, they are apprehensive of us and pose no threat. We derive great pleasure from spending time outdoors, so you may frequently observe us engaged in fieldwork, construction, or simply relaxing in our stargazing hammock circle. We are always available to provide you with space or invite you to join us. We derive immense satisfaction from meeting new individuals and have numerous recommendations for Whidbey Island, including the delectable blueberry stand in Freeland and the Mutiny Bay Blues, a venue that we can either recommend or provide directions to. We eagerly anticipate your visit. Fern Gully is conveniently located just a two-minute drive from the charming Greenbank Pantry. Where you can indulge in delectable sandwiches and quench your thirst with refreshing Topo Chico or a bottle of wine. For a scenic excursion, venture to South Whidbey State Park, a six-minute drive away. Where you can embark on exhilarating hiking trails along the breathtaking coastline. Lagoon Point County Park, a mere five-minute drive from Fern Gully, presents an ideal destination for fishing and whale watching. Greenbank Farm, a consistently exceptional destination, is conveniently accessible via a four-minute drive along Washington State Highway 525.

Campsite #1 is located between one of our grazing pastures and the Alder woods. This campsite is an easy spot to pitch a tent and has enough parking for 2 cars. Enjoy the plethora of seasonal wild berries and watch the deer stroll through this site. This site does have a path that can be used to connect to site 5 through the woods. Both sites can be booked if a second site is needed for a large group. Parking at this site is found to the right of the hammock circle and up the grass hill to the right of the pasture. The fire ring and table are hidding in the trees at the end of the pasture fence.

Site 4 - Fern Gully

Campsite #4 is very private and separated from sites 2 and 3 by forest and a gully. If you have a small car that doesn't handle a grass hill, you may want to park and hike up to your site. It's about 200 ft of an uphill hike to a flat forest at the top. This site is tucked into some gorgeous woods, back away from an overgrown pasture. This site is pretty far from the Porta-Potty, water spigot, and bathhouse (soaking tub) Parking for this site is to the left of fence from camp site. You will turn left , just after my mom's trailer and what I like to call the 'civil war fence'. You will then follow the grass road up into the large upper pasture, and all the way to the back right corner. Sorry about the 'creepy' looking horse structure, we are going to do something really cool with them in the future. You will see a small '4' sign on the fence and that is where you can walk into the site.

Site 3 - Fern Gully

Campsite #3 is a walk in site. Be prepared to carry your gear in. We also have a wagon that can be borrowed. This site is extremely private and peaceful . Rest in the hammock among the moss and birds in several acres of beautifully wooded land. The walk-in does have a small hill down and back up, but nothing intense. At this campsite, you are most likely to see Great Horned Owls or other forest-dwelling friends. This is the furthest from the port-potty and bath house, but it feels like your miles away from civilization.

Site 2 - Fern Gully

Campsite #2 is hugging the edge of the towering Evergreen forest but is just enough outside of the tree line that you can enjoy the sun and look over the farmhouse and land. There are plenty of native Pie Berries and Salmon Berries during the early summer months and large blackberries later in the summer. Parking for site 2 is past the hammock circle and up the left side of the pasture. once you get to the top, you will see your fire ring and table. Parking for site 3 is also very close to site 2 so just keep that in mind when parking so other cars can pass by.

Site 5 - Fern Gully

This is one of our best sites. It is also a walk in spot. Tucked in the woods, surrounded by beautiful tall trees. Camp site 5 is a walk in site. Be prepared to carry all your gear, or borrow our wagon to tote your camping paraphernalia to the site. Plenty of room for multiple tents. You wont be disappointed by this camp site! Parking for site 5... when you pull down the driveway all the way back past the garage and barns you will see a big flat field to your right. (It's the field behind the garage). . So, once you turn right into the flat field you will head all the way to the furthest corner, passed the travel trailer. You will see the sign for 5 and see lighted path. Please park there and walk the path, over the stream, and around a turn into the woods. Please feel free to message through Hipcamp if you have any questions at any time while staying on the property.

Site 6 is situated in a vast, open field, making it ideal for camper vans or RVs for dry camping. It’s conveniently located near the port-a-potty and bathroom facilities. If you prefer a site with minimal walking, this could be the perfect choice for you. However, you may not enjoy as much shade as some of the other spots.

Fern Gully is always an ideal camping site! We and our dogs just absolutely love it. The hosts are always responsive and quick to assist. We cannot wait for our next visit in the next year!! 😊

Site 1 was very secluded and private. The shower also had great rustic charm to it. The camp sites are easily laid out and the hostess was a sweetheart.

Our stay was really peaceful. The hosts were fantastic, everything was simple and straightforward The one thing we appreciated is how quiet the space was, the privacy., and it was so nice for my dog to be able to be off leash and happy along with us. The photos online were very generous. The property has huge potential.

This location and setting was perfect for our party of 6. Charming location with plenty of character. Our site was great as we were tucked away from others and could have our car next to us. We plan on coming back!

Stayed at Site 4 which is tucked away in a back corner away from the other sites. Very private and quiet. Other than a million mosquitos (don’t forget your bug spray!), it was great for our one night stay as we adventured through Whidbey Island.

Camp site: 5/5; you can tell each site was designed with a lot of love by an experienced camper. There's a good amount of distance between sites for privacy. Grounds/Amenities: 5/5; well kept and again thoughtfully designed. The bath house is such a cute touch. The hammock circle became part of our nightly routine for stargazing. Local area: 5/5; this area is the perfect blend of being able to enjoy nature with the convenience of small town vibes close by. Wildlife: 5/5; be prepared to encounter the local residents. Our first night we heard a pack of coyotes close by howling together; then before bed two owls had a chat right outside our tent. Hosts: 5/5; Erin responds super fast and is so helpful. Her mom Lauren, who was onsite, is so sweet and welcoming.

Site 4 is amazing. Its secluded and you'll feel like the only ones in the woods. Very shady. The campground is safe. I was solo camping with my dog and we both had a great time! The hammocks are great and the laying in them at night you see tons of stars. I loved the quirky bathhouse/shower. Only downside is its far from the bathroom and there were A LOT of mosquitos.

I camped here with my wife and 9 yr old son for two nights. We had a great time despite it raining on our first night. We hung out at the site for a bit to cook, eat, and relax and also spent some time checking out the rest of the island. Erin was quick to respond to some of our questions and in addressing a small issue with the water spigot. All in all, we had a great time and have no complaints about our relaxing outdoor family weekend.

Great camping on Whidbey Island

Wow. Where do I even start. We had a wonderful time at site 5. It was secluded and back in the trees, which provided plenty of shade and protection from the wind. The only drawback to this was the mosquitoes. Plan on applying bug spray at the parking area. It was a very short walk to the campsite, and the provided wagon made it a breeze to pack everything in. Our campsite was very clean when we arrived. The porta-potty was extremely convenient and clean. The bathtub/shower was also very clean and the water gets HOT. We saw lots of wildlife including a Western Toad and deer, and we heard lots of other wildlife like coyotes and owls. This location also provided easy access to several salmon fishing spots, which was perfect for our trip. Our dog also loved site 5, and it was very easy to let him roam and explore while still being able to keep an eye on him. This was truly a perfect campsite for us, and we will definitely be back!

Erin was a gracious and attentive host, as was her mother. They were communicative and accommodating. There is plenty of space to roam. The stars at night were spectacular and there was a barred owl calling. The shower room was great. The location is central to Coupeville and Langley. I would def go back for more island exploring!

Site 3 - Fern Gully
Fern Gully #3 is a charming spot, perfect for backpackers or minimalist campers. My husband and I are not those people — we bring way too much gear! We ended up setting up in the designated parking area and spilling into the driveway. (We were at the end, so we didn’t block anyone’s way.) Erin, our host, was wonderful — communicative, helpful, and considerate. She checked in to be sure both we and the family in the neighboring site were happy. She even gave us a heads-up about a backup at the ferry dock, which saved us time by driving around instead. The property itself is spacious, with sites thoughtfully designed to give campers plenty of privacy. The bath house is rustic and adorable, the hammock circle is a peaceful spot to relax, and water is easily accessible. Even the porta-potty was clean. This was my very first HipCamp stay — and I give it all the stars!

We had such a lovely time lots of space for pups and close to some fun activities. Really enjoyed the tub and honestly loved having access to the host if needed but not an overbearing one ! Would recommend especially with pups !

Great host! Site 4 was so private! Perfect. We had a great stay! Pur dogs LOVED being able to sniff around and play. We only wish there less mosquitos, but they are always a part of the equation when camping! Highly recommend, just prepare for the mosquitos!

Ferngully is such a magical place! This is my third time back - the first two trips were with my daughter and sister, but this time I got to enjoy it solo with my dog. Site 1 is probably my favorite because of how versatile and peaceful it is. The whole place is welcoming, comfy, safe, and beautiful. Easy to get there from the Clinton ferry and great spot to take off for adventures from. Thanks Erin for another great stay!

Weekend getaway with the pups!

This was a very fun, relaxing weekend outing and the campsite felt very private! We loved our spot (#3) with our dogs. It was well enough away from other campsites that we didn't worry about our pups being tempted to visit other campsites. The campsite itself was sufficient for camping. The "firepit" was falling apart but we didn't use it anyway due to fire ban. We still would have if there wasn't a ban but it's not in great condition. I can't see putting up more than 2 tents on this site so keep that in mind. There's not any extremely level spots but totally workable, especially if you're using padding. It was wonderful hearing the birds and chipmunks singing and squeaking and I felt immersed in nature without it being a strenuous, long commute (from Shoreline). It was perfect keeping a weekend getaway with the dogs simple and efficient. Definitely recommend. Also, the bathhouse is such a fantastic thing to have access to. We didn't use it for bathing purposes but just having access to water hot water was fantastic! Many thanks to our hosts!

This was our first Hipcamp! Fern Gully is a beautiful property with lots of wildflowers everywhere. Each site is well thought out any there is a ton of options that would fit whatever need you have. The family who lives on this property are very friendly and accommodating. They made our first day a wonderful experience.

We had the BEST time camping at Fern Gully site #4. There was plenty of space for us to spread out and for the dogs to play. The site was nice and shady with plenty of flat spots to pitch a tent. The location is close to amenities while feeling like an escape from the hustle of modern living. The porta potty was extremely clean and the shower was hot! We will absolutely be back again!
