Our family lives on 20 acres just outside Port Townsend Washington with Discovery Bay and Olympic National Park a stones throw away. We are blessed to live on the Larry Scott Trail, Olympic Discovery Trail, and Pacific Northwest Trails (Larry Scott trail marker 5.5m). We have been told that our property was an old mining site for the railroad company a century ago. In addition, we have heard that there may be hidden gold treasure buried somewhere nearby (as a result of the Victoria Canada Paymaster Heist!). On our property you can find lots of trees, berries, and animals including owls, frogs, deer, coyotes, and more. Learn more about this land: Located in a lush forest on the Quimper Peninsula, this spot is perfect a night or two of camping. We were inspired by three thru hikers we recently met in the backcountry at Olympic National Park hiking the PNW Trail who said they passed right by Carben Forest wished they could have camped on our property. Carben Forest is located on 20 acres right in Port Townsend, Washington. Our family of four is homesteading in a 1968 Airstream and love nature, hiking, and the outdoors. Come join us on the property to relax for a few days or to explore the Olympic Peninsula! Our site can easily accommodate two tents and up to 6 people. It has chairs, a wood slab table, and a small fire pit (we provide firewood for the first night!). From your campsite, you are a few steps away from the Larry Scott Trail (but still very private), 15 minutes to Port Townsend, and ~1 hour to many of the Olympic National Park access points. In addition, we have an outdoor setup for cooking and cleaning. For cooking, we have a refrigerator for your use, a gas-fired BBQ, and more. For cleaning, we have a warm water outdoor shower (amazing after a hard day hiking or paddling!), washbasin/sink, and a composting toilet dedicated to campers. We are HUGE fans of the Olympic Peninsula and our local businesses!!! We are happy to provide recommendations for any and all of your needs during your trip. Some of our favorites for food include Finnriver Cidery, Chimacum Corner Store, Hama Hama Oysters, Discovery Bay Outdoor Exchange, Port Townsend Vineyards, the Cocoa Forge, and Velocity Coffee; for getting into nature we love Fort Worden and the Elwha River. We have hiked, camped, surfed, in the area for over a decade, and have enjoyed this area's amazing farms & restaurants since moving out here several years ago. We're happy to provide detailed recommendations.  Most importantly, we love to share our land and community with others. We look forward to hosting you, your friends, and your family for an inspirational and relaxing Olympic adventure.

Quiet and secluded site, easy access to nearby trail + friendly and welcoming hosts! The amenities (sink, bathroom and shower) are a bonus especially for the first time campers in your group. Recommend bringing your own table for cooking/board games. We had such a great time. Thank you so much, Joel and Rachel!

Everything was great about this site. It was away from people but close enough if we needed something, we could find it. The toilet and shower was extra nice as well! The hosts are super chill and very nice!

I had a great stay at Carben Forest! When I arrived, the host showed me around and was super friendly and accommodating. The campsite was simple, with a clearing perfect for a tent. They had a rustic table and some stumps to sit on next to the fire pit (where the hosts had some wood and kindling to use), and it made for a really cozy spot to camp. The walk from the parking area to the site is short and easy but it gives it a really nice feeling of being in the middle of nowhere! By the parking area, there was a sink, shower, bathroom, and even a fridge! You'll have absolutely everything you need, but it feels so remote and quiet. I'd definitely come back again!

Camp with the owls
We stayed here for 3 nights on a 5 night Olympic Peninsula trip. It was a great place to be. Rachel and Joel were so friendly and helpful in answering questions and guiding us to the activities we were looking for. Having running hot water for dishwashing was great! We used the cart to haul our stuff to the campsite which was really helpful because I hadn’t organized well even though I knew it was a walk in site. The campsite was simple and pleasant, with a nice metal box to set up a cook stove. We heard owls two nights and coyotes the third.

Private and easy trail access
My daughter and I loved the private campsite and easy access to the Larry Scott Trail. We live in Port Townsend so this was a mini bike-packing getaway- so much fun! Also the trees were perfectly spaced for our hammock. Thank you so much!

A Wonderful Getaway
The Carben Forest is a quiet secluded location for tent camping. I met with Joel and he seemed very likable. I messaged Rachel and she responded quickly and thoroughly. Running water, showers, a small refrigerator, electricity, and a compost toilet are provided. Grounds were clean and well maintained. My time there was wonderful and I would highly recommend this camp to anyone interested in a nature getaway.

Magical Campsite in the Woods
The Carben Forest camping spot is one of a kind. Our family had a fantastic weekend stay, and really appreciated the amenities like running water, a composting toilet, and a cart to wheel our gear to the campsite. If you get a chance to stay, don’t forget your bug spray. The proximity to Fort Townsend, really made this place special. I hope we get a chance to return soon!

Loved our stay at Carben Forest
The campspot is spacious and private. It’s tucked away in lush woods and covered with woodchips keeping it free from mud. Owls hooted in the night and each day we were treated to a dawn chorus. The camp amenities were clean and nicely laid out. Rachel and Joel were responsive and offered tips for a good time around Port Townsend. We stayed for a week and would love to come back again.

A magical camp, with many comforts
A peaceful and private place to have a magical camp out with the family. The hosts were warm and welcoming and the campsite is situated perfectly near to hiking, biking, visiting Port Townsend, and a little farther out the Olympic Mountains. We were thrilled to stay on such beautiful land covered in native ferns and trees, with wildlife all around.

👍👍👍
My wife and I had a lovely time. Despite very clear directions, we had some trouble finding the site and a single phone call to Rachel set us on the right path. The site was super convenient and close to many hiking options but also secluded enough to feel like you were actually in the woods. I would gladly book again.

The hosts were super nice! So wonderful to relax in nature. The spot had everything we needed and nothing we didn’t. In the morning we saw a spotted owl fly low through the forest and perch on a tree for several minutes! He was huge and gorgeous. Made my whole trip. I’m still thinking about it.

Explore the Port sleep in the woods
This location is great to get your wooded experience at night and explore the Port and the surrounding area by day. Bring a bike! Having access to a bike/walking path right off the property line that goes into town was fun. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.

Remote camp feeling close to town
This is a fantastic setup! The site is lovely, secluded and a great size. Rachel and Joel were extremely friendly and welcoming and went above and beyond in terms of giving us recommendations - very much appreciated. The outdoor shower/ wash station/ bbq area really took any of the ‘work’ out of camping. You are close to Port Townsend as well as on a great trail. This is the best Hipcamp I have stayed in this summer!
