The Camp @ Wandering Goat Lodge offers close proximity to Blacksburg paired with breathtaking views and the unique opportunity to pet goats, take a private mountain walk and genuinely unwind. For those not staying in the lodge, the camp features multiple sites on the property--and plans for future expansion. Watch for the WGL Goat signs to lead you here... Your adventure begins from the minute you turn off the main road and make your approach to the lodge...Cows on the right, goats on the left... the rustic drive to the top, a hidden beach tucked along the creek ....it's part of nature's ambience and what makes WGL special. We embrace "mountain-living" and drive a sedan most days.... except when the weather really gets bad... and for folks who want more rural experience, ask if you can test your 4WD and we might let you drive up the hollow or through the field to park--taking you even closer to the goats.

Mossy Spring Beach - Camp at WGL

Better have a 4x4 and good luck

First the good- the site itself is beautiful on a really special spot along a creek. The bad- we didn’t get to enjoy the site because the road and parking were atrocious. We drove 2000 miles this trip on a lot of remote roads and this one was the worst by far. When the host eventually showed up, he pointed to two spots 20 yards from the site that he claimed were parking spots- nowhere close to level, overgrown in waist high weeds, and I had little confidence we could get our rwd camper back on the road had we parked there. He eventually offered to let us park up the hill by his house but made it obvious that he was annoyed and impatient. Funny thing was that even he wouldn’t pull into the parking spot that he wanted us to use, opting instead to drive all the way to the bottom of the hill to turn around. We were too tired to deal with his drama and didn’t feel like facing a grumpy host in the morning so we left. The host refused to communicate any further until I contacted HipCamp support and declined our request for a refund. This is our first and so far only bad experience with HipCamp.

Great Campsite

We had an excellent stay at the Wandering Goat Lodge. Warren was a great host and was extremely responsive. The campsite was as described. We really enjoyed the friendly donkeys and goats. The proximity to hiking and climbing make this a great option for anyone looking to explore the outdoors in the Blacksburg area.

Mossy Spring Beach - Camp at WGL

We had an amazing time! The hosts were so considerate and kind amplifying our experience with their generous help and guidance. The beach is the perfect campsite with the stream flowing, a small swimming hole, sand, and privacy. Would absolutely recommend!!!
