Rock Bottom Horse Camp

If you want a private and secluded place to camp then this is a good place. I was the only one there and the whole setting was very quiet and peaceful. The bathroom and shower were clean. Didn't get to meet the owner. Actually I didn't see anybody during my stay.

Beautiful view, gated area, super nice hosts. My kids loved being greeted by their dogs and seeing their horses and sheep! I would definitely recommend!

Site 3 - RV/Horse Trailer

The host John and his wife and 3 totally adorable dogs are wonderful. The facilities are new, clean and well maintained. If you have horses the trails are right there to get into the national park .. a beautiful park!! My son who I was traveling with is partially physically challenged. John has the most advanced trail accessibility equipment available… some electric all terrain and others that are arm strength propelled. He and his wife are also very involved in the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park and volunteer their time there. I would recommend this place without hesitation.

The view at Rock Bottom Horse Camp is beautiful. The camp was very peaceful. I was the only person there initially; however, another person did show up a bit later and I was under the impression that he was a "walk-in;" so, if that is the case, it's helpful to know that this camp accepts them. This Hipcamp caters to campers with horses, but will accept non-horse campers, as well. I highly recommend Rock Bottom Horse Camp.

John’s land was a perfect place to stop and take a break during my long drive. He sent clear instructions and all the amenities were great! Quiet and beautiful spot to sleep for the night!

Loved our stay at the Beech site!

We loved the Beech tent site! It was tucked away back in the corner under beautiful beech and maple trees. There was a picnic table and two round wooden spool tables that were perfect for setting out our stuff. The tent area was perfectly flat and super comfortable! The bath house was a very welcome touch after we had spent the last 5 days backpacking before coming to Rock Bottom Horse Camp. John had sent detailed instructions with directions on how to get to and into camp and find our site before our arrival, and then came out and welcomed us shortly after we got there. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to this area!

John was so hospitable and we felt so welcome immediately upon arrival. The view from the tent area was absolutely gorgeous. There's a great hike walkable from their place. And, we enjoyed fresh eggs, a wonderful fire, the sweet pups, and an array of humming birds hanging out with us. Couldn't have been more pleased.

Perfect pit stop

The camp was beautiful with well kept amenities. We used this camp as a pit stop on a long trip & it was just what we needed. Traffic & a potty training toddler delayed our arrival a little bit but John was so kind and hospitable & helped us to get settled in quickly. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. This was a quick one-night stay this time but I took a peek at the horse stalls for future possibilities; they were clean and spacious. There are also two sweet pups who do a great job at being the security team as well as the welcome crew. The views from our site were amazing but it seemed like you couldn’t really go wrong anywhere in the camp; the mountains are your neighbors! Lastly- it wasn’t advertised that there was a bathhouse but there is one currently under construction and usable with a shower, sink, and toilet. Cosmetically, it wasn’t finished but we didn’t care- functionality was perfect.

We stayed at the tent site and we absolutely loved it! It's very private and we loved the sound of the creek at night. John and Erin were wonderful hosts. They let us walk down to see the chickens and horses. They also have a couple sheep. We couldn't have asked for a better time. We would definitely come back to stay. Thank you John and Erin for an awesome experience.

Wilderness Road camping!

Great folks! Thank you for sharing your beautiful land with us. If you're into history this is a very convenient place to basecamp from. John and Erin are very down to earth and kind. Our experience here was very relaxing and quiet. Great view of the cliffs to the west. We weren't staying with a horse but it seemed like a fantastic place to come to with horses! We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Camping at the Sand Cave

Great location for hiking in the Cumberland Gap area. Tent site is very private but not a far walk from the bathrooms and sink. Had everything we needed, and the added bonus with the amazing view and shade. When we come back to the area we will look to stay here again

A hidden gem of a getaway. John was very accommodating and welcomed me onto the farm when I got there, telling me about the nearby trails and even gave me a coffee recommendation nearby. His three dogs also came running up and were very friendly both nights. Was able to hike up the ridge overlooking the farm and pick it out from the top. Very clean, well maintained porta potty was not far at all from my campsite . Very peaceful and serene experience, would return!!

A truck repair threw us off-course. John and Erin accommodated a very last minute reservation. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and easy to access off main road. Instructions were clear and setup was easy. John and Erin were welcoming and pleasant. You can’t beat the price on fresh eggs! We didn’t get a chance to explore the area but we highly recommend Rock Bottom.

John is the perfect host. John and his family met me at my arrival and greeted me with homemade lemonade. The RV/horse trailer site is immaculate. The horse corral is equally fantastic. Everything is maintained very well. John is available at all times with any questions or concerns or just a fun person to visit with. I will definitely be back! The scenery is gorgeous. Access to hiking trails is it literally just outside his gate. Communication from the moment I made my reservation until the day before and the day of travel is perfect. I never had any doubt of what to expect and how to get there. I highly recommend this post and his property.!!!!

Booked a tent site but the weather was quite intense. Erin, one of the hosts, met us at our site late at night and offered to let us pitch our tent in the barn. The sweetest, so accommodating, couldn’t recommend a better last minute camp experience. :)))
