The campground hosts (owners?) were incredibly nice BUT....this is not your typical Hipcamp campsite. There were numerous massive campers/RVs and 99% of them were perm-a-campers who gathered around a group fire in the evenings and the horseshoe pit in the afternoons. The 4 sites featured on the Hipcamp site we were told when we got there were "primitive and unavailable" contrary to the advertisement which said they had hookups (we have a 17" Mini Winnie). Also the "favorite site" they gave us was sandwiched between 2 buildings with fluorescent spotlights on all night and we spent our last afternoon there listening to their dog barking/whining/crying for hours before someone finally got home and let it inside. To be fair, it was a beautiful campground...just not what we expect from a Hipcamp site:(

A great weekend away at Rainbow Campground. The hosts were super friendly and greeted us right away. This is a small campground with quite a few full time sites occupied. Rental sites are well maintained and clean.
Take the road up to the lake, it's worth it.

We absolutely loved our time at the Creekside site. It was so perfect with the beautiful creek right at the site. The hosts have put so much time and attention to making the property welcoming and cozy. Very thoughtful landscaping and clean facilities. The location is absolutely stunning and within 15 minutes to great hiking, 30 minutes to the charming town of Abingdon and 20 minutes to a mountain lake that is great if you enjoy fishing. Highly recommend.

What a wonderful place. The hosts were as friendly as could be. The sites were perfect, with the sounds of the creek lulling us to sleep. The place was so clean and in the heart of such beautiful country. We will be back!

We loved our time at Rainbow! Everyone was so kind and helpful. It’s mostly an RV campground but the tent area was separated and close to the river and made it feel more isolated. We had live music on Friday night, which was so nice to hear. We weathered a bad storm one night from our tent and everyone checked on us the next day, including people in the RV campground. The bathrooms are small, but nice. There are no showers, but rumor has it there will be some soon! The WiFi worked great for us to get weather updates. It was a little spotty sometimes but overall no issues. We would definitely return in the future. The owners also talked with us about different hikes and areas they recommended for us to visit. That was really helpful. Beautiful people and beautiful place to stay! Thank you for your hospitality. 🏕️

We loved our camping experience at Rainbow Campground! It all began with a warm welcome from owners, Kevin and Christie, at check in. It was a busy fishing week at Big Tumbling Creek, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to return to this beautiful area!

This campsite was massive with sun, shade, and private. Having the fire, picnic table, and stream so easily accessible was convenient and beautiful. The site was very well maintained. Loved it!

The Creekside location is amazing! It’s a single campsite across the road from the main camp ground so it has a semi secluded feel to it. There’s more than enough room for 2 vehicles, a large clearing for large family sized tents and an embankment that leads to the creek so you enjoy the sounds of the water all night. Definitely one of my favorite campsites and we are already planning on returning.

I absolutely fell in love with Rainbow! It so much reminded me of my camp family in upstate NY which was nestled in a forest of wildlife next to Massachusetts. This property is very well maintained, clean with a good set of rules. The host was so kind, informative and helpful with firewood. Many friendly seasonal campers that said “hello” in passing. I was concerned about site privacy since the spots are so close together but everyone was so quiet and at a slow pace that it was as if you were alone. We were embraced by the views and sounds of nature but felt very safe on this property. It was a very chilly and relaxing girls trip but can’t wait to bring my husband .. he will love it!

My Husband and I got to stay at one of the tent sites over Labor Day Weekend. It was very busy, but equally amazing and while there were a lot of other campers we were still able to be secluded and have time to ourselves just to enjoy nature. The grounds provided a picnic table, fire pit, restrooms, non potable water, vending machines and wifi.
We were able to go fishing with a fishing permit, the waterbeds in the area are stocked with Trout so that was pretty cool and we were able to go and enjoy Laurel Bed Lake (about 7 miles away from the campgrounds). We came to the area for The Great Channels and the campgrounds were only 20 minutes away from our destination which was a BIG plus.
Overall, we'd rate our stay an 8.5/10. :) Can't wait to go back during a non-peak season.

My wife, Maria and I had an awesome weekend camping at Rainbow Campground and fishing Big Tumbling Creek! The hosts, Kevin and Christie, are super friendly, amazing people! If you make the trip and stay at Rainbow Campground, you won't be disappointed... Highly Recommend!
