The hosts mowed the site on the day of our arrival which was very nice of them. We stayed for one night on our road trip and we enjoyed the site.

The campsite at Meg and Ben’s farm is truly a sanctuary in Virginia. Not only is the set up perfect for a scenic getaway, but the hospitality that the hosts create is unmatched. I will be coming back for another trips. Lois

Great place to bring the family. The goats are fun and a highlight, the sky is bright. It’s close to kings dominion so it’s easy to get to from Richmond. no trees, so no hammock camping. Would definitely come back.

The kids and I had a great overnight trip to Moonrise Farmstead! The sites are mostly flat, with a nice fire ring and spool table at each site. We were the only ones there, so it was very private. There is a very nice outhouse convenient to all 3 sites. We took a quick stroll to the beaver pond and checked out the goats and chickens. The girls loved watching the baby goats play! Beautiful sunrise, sunset, and stargazing. Ben was a gracious host, very accommodating and friendly. We will be back!

So easy, clean, and accessible. The sites were all exactly as described. I wish we had spent more time, but we were just passing through and appreciated the ability to make a night of arrival reservation. The composting toilet was great for a picky kiddo I was traveling with and he loved freshening it up with pine shavings. Thanks for having us!

We tent camped in site 1, and it was a lovely night. The fire ring is large and very well made. Great place for star gazing. Clean site, well maintained and beautiful property. The outhouse was clean and did not smell at all.

Great farmstead camp spot🙂 nicely kept areas and the cable reels are good for staging equipment. You don't have to drive super far from the highway but there's enough woods around to dampen much of the noise.

We had a great time! Our car battery died the first night there 🤦🏻♀️ and the hosts came and gave us a jumpstart, they were super helpful! The kids loved hanging out with the goats, pigs, and chickens. Nice outhouse and well-kept areas to put up our tents.

Really easy and peaceful camping! Stayed next to one family that was at site 1, but site 2 feels a little more private and tucked away. There was a nice fire and 2 tables. Might have been difficult to find good wood for a fire (bc seems like mostly scrub forest behind sites) so would bring my own next time. I felt safe and comfortable — lots of flat space for pitching a tent. Good expanse of sky to watch stars.

Super charming family with a charming camp site. We happened to be the only ones camping, but there is a fair amount of space and privacy should the other sites be occupied. The composting toilet was rustic but clean (no smell!) and chock full of amenities including tp, hand sanitizer, bleach wipes, and a mirror. A highlight was getting to see and feed the animals in the morning. We will be back!

We loved our stay on Meg and Ben's land! It was very peaceful and we enjoyed spending time at the farm; my daughter got to help feed the chickens, goats and barn cat! Her favorite thing may have been picking mulberries though :) Thanks Meg and Ben, we appreciate it!

This is a great primitive type camping spot. Great for traveling folks!! Compost bathroom is clean and doesn't smell. Lots of bugs, but that is part of any camping!! We had a great time and are thankful to our hosts!

This was our first trial of hipcamp, but it was definitely a winner. The sites were easy to find and well maintained. We were camping with kids and the goats were definitely a hit. We tent camped, but this site would easily work for a rooftop tent or camper van.

Campsite was great! Soft ground for a tent, and really beautiful scenery. When the sun went down it became clear why it’s called Moonrise. Big sky over open fields for a stunning view of the night sky. Hosts greeted me and attended to the outhouse and were very kind. Would recommend.

We had a great stay. Loved the touches like the outhouse and the fire rings.
Walked to see the goats and chickens, which was another highlight.
The road noise was a little loud, but we had music, which helped. Traffic seemed to die down quite a bit after about 10, though.
Would definitely recommend.

Meg and Ben's farm is close to Richmond but very much in the country. I stayed there solo in a van for a few nights to work on a project and it was perfect--dreamy and quiet, with easy, level, mowed campspots, fire rings, an outhouse, privacy, and misty sunrises over the fields each morning. Meg, Ben, and Kaya, their joyful friendly dog, were so hospitable. Highly recommend--I loved staying there and hope to be back soon!

We had an absolutely WONDERFUL time at Moonrise!! The hosts Meg & Ben were lovely and gave us a warm welcome! Ben even took the time to let the goats out of their pin to let us play with them. They were so cute- even had 2 baby goats! Two sweet cats also gave us a warm welcome. We had a wonderful stay and plan on coming back for another weekend trip. Would definitely recommend this place! Also, the moon rising over the trees was INCREDIBLE. And we had clear skies so I was able to see 3 shooting starts. A great time had by all - perfect weather, big fire in the fire pit, and so much fun with the animals on the farm. Ben even let us try a “puffball mushroom” that he found on his land. He was a wonderful host. You’ve gotta go!!!

Meg and Ben did a great job making this campsite welcoming for me and my friends. We had a great experience there! It was fun getting to see the farm animals, but then having plenty of distance between them and our campsite. And the campsite title didn't disappoint...a great view of the moonrise over the horizon! This was such a nice location to retreat into nature, despite being so easily accessible from Richmond! Highly recommend!

We had an incredible time at meg and ben’s place! We were lucky enough to hang out with some Nigerian dwarf goats and their great cats, Orion and Holly! The site was fantastic; with great sunset and moonrise views! The large fire pit was perfect for a roaring fire long into the night, and the convenience of the site facilities etc made it an easy stay! 10/10 definitely recommend !!

I stayed at Meg's and Ben's place this summer - once in my way out and then again my way back home. They have a huge field with spacious campsites, fire pits included. There's a clean outhouse with a composting toilet. The only negative thing I have to say is that there are bugs, but you're camping, so of course they're will be bugs! This didn't detract from my experience there at all. There's no lights, so enjoying the night sky is easy there. The sunrises from the field are also something else!
I met them on my way in the first time, and I'm glad Meg made time to see me off the second time.
I know there are places to explore in the area, so I hope I have the opportunity to stay here again.

The farm is a wide open space. I had the entire place to myself for the night, but each site seems to have sufficient space. The outhouse was clean. I was just there for three night, and once the rain stopped, sitting outside was peaceful.
