Wonderful spot up a mountain, not as bad a drive as I had worried, but we had great weather. I was glad I had a CRV. I hope to return to high camp, the land is so well tended to and taken care of, but still feels wild and beautiful. Someone was staying at high camp but we did not see them and it felt like we had the mountain to ourselves.

Mid camp, does not have level ground, kind of an odd spot. I recognize it's off grid but I feel this location could be setup better. And I'm comparing to the other 8 locations I stayed at in my ventures.

First of all chris was a great host, understood i was there for the solitude, yet let me know he was a message away if I needed anything. The cabin is indeed cozy and perfect size to go sleep in. I spent 90 percent of my time outside cooking/tending the campfire. The hollow is extremely quite in the best way possible. Though you can catch a millisecond glimpse of passing vehicles at the very end of the driveway, I didnt hear any except a slight whisper of a big super duty truck. The creek trail right past the cabin is pure bliss. Had fun looking for brachiopod fossils in the creek. Convenience for a serene escape 10/10 and host/hospitality 11/10

I loved my stay here. I was impressed at how secluded it felt and how beautiful his property is. It was easy to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with nature. Each site is far enough away that had someone else been on the property, I most likely wouldn’t have known. It’s such a large place and there’s so much to hike and explore. I could’ve stayed an entire week and not hike the same area. The creek was gorgeous and I enjoyed hiking it. I definitely recommend bringing a saw with you. I had to clear a fallen tree from the road to leave, but it felt like part of the adventure. If you’re looking to get out in the forest and experience the Appalachian mountains, this is a prime example of what it’s like out there. I will 100% be returning to Chris’s slice of heaven in the trees.

#2 - Low Camp & Valley View
This is an amazing spot if you want privacy and a great view! We parked at low camp and took a short hike to low camp-valley view. Chris is a great host! He even built a platform for our tent. Provided great directions and made sure we had what we needed. The first night we were lucky enough to have a full moon over the valley and it was gorgeous. The next day we did some hiking in the mountains all to ourselves. Plenty of trails to walk too! It was cloudy and dark which was nice and relaxing! I would highly recommend!

I, my wife, and our two dogs stayed at Chris's place for a long weekend of just...silence. Other than one evening (shout out to Veset!) we had the entire mountain to ourselves. We took our 19' Arkto Campers G12 towed behind our Power Wagon and had no issues navigating the road. The site was tight to back into, but we managed with some minimal leveling and had plenty of room to spread out.
Chris's property is surrounded by national forest, so an afternoon walk can turn into hours of exploration almost by accident. Come prepared to put a lot of miles (and changes in elevation) under your feet, or to laze around and just do nothing. We opted for a bit of both.
Keep in mind that all the sites are primitive and there are no boundless fields. I didn't mind not having an open space to throw a ball as the dogs were plenty tired from hiking. If you're looking for a spot to bring a bunch of friends and all circle up...this isn't it. If you're looking for some beautiful mountains to relax in with maybe one other vehicle (so long as you're both roof top or ground tent camping)...it's perfect!
We'll be back as there's so much left unexplored!

My daughter, furpup and I had a wonderful stay on Chris’s property. He was very friendly and responded very quickly to our booking. He was nice to meet us and gave very wonderful directions, down to the 2miles to get to campsite. 4wheel drive is recommended to drive to site. The site had plenty of room to put a tent and enjoy the peace under the stars. We appreciated how rugged the property is and the owner takes very good care to keep the property in its natural state. The tent site was very clean and no litter. We opted to hammock camp a little ways and enjoyed hearing the birds at night. We highly recommend this site for those who appreciate a more out with nature feel who appreciate backpacking and hiking. The sky is perfect for star gazing and didn’t have cell service problems at site itself the rest of the property is spotty but that is to be expected in the mountains.

This was the perfect campsite for a quiet night by the fire. It was easy to locate and a 4 wheel drive vehicle made it easy to get to. Chris was very easy to communicate with and gave some nice recommendations for things to do in the area. Will definitely be staying here again!

High Camp was exactly what I wanted - very remote, primitive, private, and wild. Chris does a phenomenal job at keeping his property in its natural state. It was just an incredible adventure. Plenty of hiking trails for backpacking and exercise!

I spent a very relaxing weekend at this wonderful spot with my dog. The host, Chris, is very helpful with directions to the spot, suggestions for exploring, and obviously loves his property. There are plenty of trails with amazing views to explore. The site is spacious and includes a fire pit (we had a wind advisory all weekend, so we couldn’t use, but safety first.) We had stunning views of the sunset both nights and there is little to no light pollution so the night skies offered stellar views. We will definitely come back because there’s so much to explore. Bonus points for the host’s very cute and friendly dog!

Amazing, remote, private location with Brilliant Stars ✨ This adventure takes you off road to the top of a mountain. Fire pit was available, both AT&T and Verizon signal worked. Host was very responsive and accommodating! Will 100% return to the Forest in the future!

Good access to surrounding forests and parks, nice and quiet. Good stars at night. The provided fire ring and chairs were a good touch. The property itself wasn’t very scenic but it was nice to walk through the woods and there was a lot to explore. Chris was very helpful and responsive.

This site is truly extraordinary and surpassed all my expectations. Despite having a limited number of reviews, it's clear that the focus here is on quality over quantity. I visited on the weekend of August 13th to capture the Perseids meteor shower and was not disappointed. The proactive communication from the owner, complete with helpful maps and suggestions, was commendable. We met the owner at base camp, who led us to a perfect campsite setup, complete with a fire pit and firewood. The location offers breathtaking views in a dark sky zone where I was able to see the Milky Way's core with the naked eye. The following day's hikes and the unforgettable meteor shower display were the highlights. The sight of the shooting stars with bright tails was mesmerizing. Totally worth making the hike to dark sky territory. The owner's unparalleled hospitality ensured our comfort and safety throughout our stay. Generous gestures like additional firewood and recommendations for scenic routes elevated our experience. In addition, site is close to many local attractions, including the beautiful Moomaw Lake. This place is a hidden treasure and I'm eagerly looking forward to my next visit with friends. Highly recommended!

We had the pleasure of being Chris’s first campers. It was well worth the 3 1/2 hour drive from eastern Virginia. It is very secluded and couldn’t be any more quiet. The view of the stars was amazing at night. Highly recommend making the 30 minute drive to Lake Moomaw, you won’t regret it. Bluest lake we have seen with beautiful mountains surrounding. Chris was very helpful in directing us to our campsite and even gave us access to some fire wood. Would recommend this place
