Hawthorn Hollar

Had a wonderful weekend with the family and dogs here. There were plenty of trails to walk (the gnome trail was a highlight) that are well-maintained. The pond on site was perfect for easy fishing with an option to take out the canoe. And Moon and Julie were both such friendly and generous hosts! The cabin is placed on a spacious plot of land away from the other two sites, with plenty of shade. The futon was surprisingly comfortable. Lots of open fields too. In short, it was the perfect getaway.

Great location with lots of things to do at the site from fishing at the pond to waking trails to playing in the open field (as well as badminton). Julie and Moon were very friendly and kind, greeting us when we arrived and chatting with us before we left.

Cedar Lane is a great spacious campsite. You can’t beat better hosts than the Moons. They genuinely care about your stay. I always recommend Hawthorne Hallow to any campers I talk to.

Our stay was short and sweet. The hosts are warm and welcoming. The site was extremely easy to level and the peace and quiet was amazing. Didn't get to check out the trails so this will be a spot we return to for more adventures!

This was my 4th time staying at the Hawthorne Hollar cabin if that says anything. It's pretty much my go to campsite for a weekend getaway these days. Moon and Julie are awesome hosts. If you're looking for more info I left reviews for each of my other trips that go into a lot more detail about what makes this such a great place to stay.

This is our 7th or 8th time staying at Moon & Julie's. As always, it was a great stay. Privacy, great trails to walk the dogs, space for the pups to chase balls off leash, etc. Moon and Julie are awesome hosts and come and greet you when you arrive to make sure all is well. We would love to stay again as always.

We absolutely loved Hawthorn Hollar!! Moon and Julie were awesome and so welcoming!! There is plenty of space for the dogs to roam free!!! And sooooo much space between you and anyone else. The star gazing, relaxing, fishing, and basically everything was perfect!! We'll definitely be back!! Thank you so much Moon and Julie for offering up your property!!

This weekend was perfect! Julie & Moon are great and their dogs greeted us as we drove in. Our dog Libby had the best time. We tent camped at site 1. We spent some hours fishing, hiking the trails, laying around, and making some amazing food. We'll be back very soon!

Great spot for families!

My girls and I had a great time camping and exploring Hawthorne Hollar! The two campsites are two open fields that back up to the woods and are separated by a tree line. Plenty of space and privacy. There are a ton of trails through the woods with creek crossings and a gnome trail (kids favorite!). A true dark sky site with millions of stars visible at night. The owners are wonderful folks, super helpful! The kids and I can’t wait to go back👍🏼

Moon and Julie’s land was amazing! Our dog loved being able to roam free. We had a blast finding gnomes on the trail, and the supply of firewood was endless. We can’t wait to come back!!

Wonderful grandkid camping adventur

We did a mixture of tent camping in RV camping. We had a wonderful time with our grandkids. They thoroughly enjoyed the hikes through the variety of trails on The property. Moon and Julie were wonderful. Hosts remained available and supportive during our stay. We definitely will be coming back as soon as we can.

My best friend and I highly enjoyed our experience! The owners were very kind and helpful. We had easy access to taking the canoe out for about 30min before we walked along a trail covered in crunchy fall leaves! We felt like kids again! The Gnome trail felt so magical I loved it! The owners gave us some history on the land so it felt like we found treasure when I picked up a quartz rock with gold flakes in it :) The cabin stay was nice! They had plenty of firewood which was super helpful. Definitely bring a generator or lots and lots of blankets as the months get colder. Friend and I slept in the futon and our body heat, sleeping bags, and blankets kept us cozy. The compost bathroom was easy to use, finding the entrance was easy as well. Drove 40min into Charlottesville, felt shorter than that cause it was just long roads. I think you will see us back in the future!

I think this is our 6th time staying Moon and Julie's. We love staying there when in the area. There are trails to walk the dogs and plenty of space to set up our trailer and hang out by the fire watching the stars. We obviously enjoy staying there since we've been there multiple times.

Amazing experience!

It is difficult to put into words how much we enjoyed our visit to the Persimmon Patch! The space was breathtaking and really allows you to relax and unwind. The specific campsite was large and very easy to navigate our camper. Moon and Julie stopped by to check on us and were so very hospitable. They have really thought of everything and are wonderful hosts! Before we arrived, we filled our water tank partially since we weren’t exactly sure of the setup at the campsite. We now know that we can fill our camper’s water tank upon arrival. They have installed a very convenient fill station right along the driveway that is perfect. From the signage to the firewood to the special placement of the gnomes along one of the trails, they have put so much thought and care into creating a wonderful experience for their guests. We 100% recommend visiting them and we can’t wait to go back! THANK YOU MOON & JULIE!

We had a wonderful weekend at Persimmon Patch!! Julie & moon were so kind and welcoming and the land itself was beautiful. We have to say the best part was letting our dogs off leash to be free and a little wild. We will definitely be back!

Another Wonderful Stay

This was our second stay here and it was another wonderful trip. The Enchanted Cabin is definitely the perfect place to get away from it all. The trails are fun, the fishing good, and the outdoor shower is amazing when you need a nice clean and refresh after all the hiking and fishing 🙂 This time my friend's kiddo came along and she loved searching for the gnomes on the gnome trail and splashing and paddling around on the floating dock. The location of the cabin on the property is perfect. It gives you easy access to the pond, trails, and other amenities but is secluded enough to give you a truly private experience. Moon and Julie were super friendly and accommodating just as they were the first time we visited. Truly down to earth friendly people. I'm not much for cold weather winter camping but I'll definitely be back again for a 3rd visit when spring comes around.

Private pet friendly camping!

We loved tent camping here! Very private, we had a whole field to ourselves. There was a big group on the site next to us, but we could barely hear them they were so far away. Trails were nicely maintained. We had a great time and can't wait to go back!

Camping with Horses

We loved camping with our horses at Hawthorn Hollar. The camp area is beautiful with gorgeous sky views in the evenings (we were able to see the space station pass over). The pond is a special place to watch the sun sliding down in the western sky. The trail system, while not long, was a perfect place to ride without having to share the trails. Some of the trails are new so they will ride slow due to small stumps and potential holes and if you ride the too fast you will miss on the "special" trail markers. Thank you to the Moon's for so thoughtfully opening their facilities to horses. I'm sure we will go back.

Fantastic place and hosts. Moon and Julie were so kind and welcoming. Can't thank them enough for saving our Labor Day weekend family camping trip. Their property and camp sites are clean and offer memories to last. We loved the various trails, especially the gnome trail. Our 3 year old had the best hike counting the gnomes, box turtles and frogs and our English Springer throughly enjoyed the pond. Would recommend to family and friends and anyone who is looking for a wonderful camping experience.
