An absolute gem near Floyd!
Crooked Mountain is a perfect getaway. While it’s geared toward two-wheel travelers (like adventure moto riders), don't let that deter you if you're on four wheels—it’s an incredibly peaceful spot for anyone looking to camp right next to Pine Creek. The location is ideal: close enough to town for convenience, but tucked so nicely between the hills that you feel completely disconnected from civilization.
The amenities are fantastic. The camp store is stocked with all the necessities, and they have the cheapest firewood around. Plus, you get hot showers, a great hiking trail, and a massive "pick-your-own" flower patch.
I stayed at Site 6, which was huge! It featured a large tent pad, a great fire ring, and a couple of perfect hammock spots.
I came up for a solo weekend to ride my gravel bike, and this place is a cyclist's dream—the campground is literally half a mile from some of the best gravel riding the East Coast has to offer. To top it off, the hosts are wonderful people with a wealth of local knowledge, especially when it comes to those hidden, forgotten gravel roads. I will definitely be back soon!
