Christopher Run Campground
Welcome to Christopher Run Campground, a unique destination nestled on the shores of Lake Anna, where history and nature intertwine. Established by Sam and Jean Bazzanella in 1973, this campground transformed from a small picnic area into a beloved retreat, thanks to the couple's resilience and vision after losing 40 acres of farmland to the lake created for cooling the nearby nuclear power plant.
When Hurricane Agnes filled the lake in 1972, the Bazzanellas' initial efforts—a modest picnic shelter and boat ramp—quickly gained popularity among friends and family. As word spread, visitors began to request overnight camping, inspiring the Bazzanellas to officially open Christopher Run Campground. Initially featuring just 60 sites and a small store, the campground rapidly became a sought-after spot for outdoor enthusiasts.
Over the years, with dedication and support from family and friends, the campground expanded to accommodate over 200 sites, offering a variety of amenities that enhance the camping experience. Today, Christopher Run Campground continues to thrive under the guidance of the next generation of Bazzanellas, ensuring that guests enjoy the same warmth and hospitality that made this campground a cherished destination. With its proximity to natural features, swimming holes, and a range of outdoor activities, as well as
