We loved the two nights we camped at The Camp New River. It was the most beautiful campsite we ever visited. The hosts were very responsive and welcoming. It’s was a perfect site for our visit to Virginia Tech. The site was enormous! The grounds were immaculate and spacious. The dock was so nice to fish from and take a dip in the river. The porta potty was a nice touch and very clean. We also loved our chat with Ronnie and learning about the hipcamp. Both my husband and son loved seeing the train come through and did not find it disturbing at all. It was a unique experience. We would love to visit again.

We loved camping out on the river, with the great views and kindness of Jennifer and Ronnie we had an amazing evening creating memories to last a lifetime. Our dogs freely roamed being able to enjoy the water and fire with us. Will 100% be back.

We loved our experience camping here! Hosts are very kind and thoughtful. I love that the camping and swimming area are shaded for the majority of the day. Great swimming for kids! 🎉🎉 Loved it all so much and we will be back!

A great spot with plenty of clean tent space and nice view of the River. I the little dock was also great to have! Also almost no bugs and a nice breeze when we were there. Decent cell reception also (Att&t) Owner was super nice, responded quickly and provided plenty of firewood. The nearby morning train was a little loud (haha) but we didn’t mind and needed to get up anyway :)

Amazing wildlife. Super cute little setup. It was slightly less private than we were expecting. The boat ramp next to the camping site was rather active. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would come again.

The site was beautiful and Ronnie and Jennifer were so incredibly nice! The site is private, right on the water, the bar is perfect to set up on, and you have your own dock. Make sure to bring a fishing pole! I can’t wait to go back!

This was an incredible spot and I will absolutely be returning. The hosts are so accommodating and even came to jump my car at 8pm when the battery died. The land is beautiful and I felt very safe there and well taken care of. Can’t wait to go back this is my new favorite spot!

Beautiful, serene spot with tons of wildlife and great fishing. The amenities were more than expected, making the stay super comfortable. We even received a refund due to bad weather on our last day — such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture. Highly recommend for a relaxing nature escape while still being close enough to town!

This was an awesome little chunk of heaven for the weekend! The fire pit, grill, prep tables and picnic table already at the site were perfect for my family’s event. Directions to the spot were super easy to follow. We had a few dogs with us as well and it was great being able to let them explore.

Fantastic camping spot! Beautiful and quiet with river access and a dock. There were lawn chairs and cooking utensils which I didn't expect but between the fire pits with grates and the picnic grill you can cook about anything. The ground is level with lots of grass and room for several tents if you want to group camp. The hosts are fantastic. The husband introduced himself first afternoon and asked if I wanted firewood. You can bring your own but I didn't have any way to do that. The $30 scoop of firewood was huge! The weather changed and I ended up leaving a night early with firewood left. The host refunded my firewood without being asked. I would never have expected that but it was appreciated. I can't wait to go back when it's hot enough to get in the river!

Amazing spot on the river! Would love to cone back in the summer! The dock and provided amenities were fantastic and thoughtful. Dogs loved playing in water. Clean porta- John. The driveway is no joke but we were able to manage our small trailer with no problems. Big Rigs could have issue.

Awesome spot by the water with room to spread out and relax. Sit by the fire and watch the river otters play or fish down at the dock.
Fantastic sunrises and sunsets! And for those if us who are train enthusiasts, an occasional one rolls past. They don't typically honk unless you wave.

We enjoyed our site very much! The wind was high and it was quite chilly out so we didn't get to fully utilize the space they have provided, but it was beautiful and serene. The occasional train runs past which we always enjoy. My wife waves at them, even at night from within our rv. Hahaha
Beautiful sunrises and sunsets and plenty of space for the dogs to run and play.

From the minute we booked, the communication from Jennifer the host, was easy and professional. Before we even got there she wanted to make sure we had everything we needed, I recommend taking them up on their wood deal. Makes things easier. The road in is downhill, but accessible by car or SUV easily. The directions were very well written and clearly marked upon arrival. The pictures do not lie that you see, they actually don't do this property justice. Lush green grass, surrounded by thick woods, and literally on the river. There's a great dock that you can walk down onto the water, there's also a easy slide-in boat ramp. Great barbecue setup with everything that you would need for basics. There's so much room you can literally camp anywhere. We chose to set up tent close to the fire ring, so you could have your tent illuminated by it at night. The river has a current, so take that into consideration if you are not a strong swimmer. But an average swimmer would be able to manage it no problem. For late September the water temperature was tolerable and we loved swimming. We brought our two German shepherds and they just loved the free roaming of the property and jumping off the dock, and swimming up and down the river. They definitely got their workout in. I would recommend this camp, if you're looking for a great setup with great water access. Fish jumping all the time. Porta-Potty was usable. You can see their house from the site, but It does not impede on your experience.

Jennifer and her husband have created such a peaceful, spacious spot with a lot of great extras (like a cooking station, dock, fire pit, and a port-a-potty). It was very well
marked too. We came in at night at found our way easily.
While we were there we saw deer, blue herons, cranes, an otter, lots of geese and ducks too.
We have a sprinter van and the area was level. I would highly recommend this HipCamp for your stay.
4WD is prob not necessary but it was nice to have for the driveway. Also, there is a train that you will hear. It came at about 2:30 am and then again in the morning after we had already been up. It doesn’t have a whistle but you can hear it pass by. Not a deal breaker at all though because all the rest outweighs the short period of time the train passes.

Our family spent one night over the weekend here with some of our kids’ friends(7 kids total ant one point) and had a blast. The location is just perfect… beautiful and immaculately kept. Highly recommended and we will certainly go back some day. Nice level lot for tents and the options for fires and grilling are awesome. The camp side of the river is deep water, so it is great for swimming and tubing. Don’t forget life vests and always check the water for debris before jumping in. The opposite side of the river was shallow and great for wading and snorkeling, so bring a kayak or canoe to get to that side. The road down to the site is a somewhat steep incline with loose gravel(if weather has been dry), so if you are inexperienced with that driving, it might create some anxiety. For perspective, I had a suburban pulling a 16’ utility trailer filled with water crafts and camping gear and made it down and out in 2wd with no problem, but my wife in a FWD Camry lost traction in a steep spot when leaving uphill and had to back up to retry with more momentum. Be sure to follow the “Hipcamp” signs to the spot in the grass… and be sure to tell your guests to follow the signs too. If you don’t have firewood, the tractor-bucket of wood the hosts sell is a great option. Nice value and good mix of nice dry woods. We ready had a great time. So to the hosts, Ronnie and Jennifer, thank you for making your slice of heaven available.

Well, all the rave reviews are not completely accurate. Its EVEN BETTER! This place was heaven. Jennifer and Ronnie were absolutely amazing people. The camp site is incredibly spacious and right up against the New River. My dogs loved all the open space to explore! I will be back!

I only camped for 1 night. The land and the river are beautiful. Unfortunately, I did not make the most of my stay. It was great that the host came to meet me and we chatted for a while. I am relatively new to camping in my van and new to the area. So, it was great to swap stories with the host and ask questions. My only challenge was some turns coming into the property are sharp and some short areas of the roadway are steep. I was driving a rather big old Ford Econoline Van that needs a little coaxing to safely travel up or down fairly steep gravel roads. Mind your gearing.

By far one of the nicest places we have ever camped at in over 25 years of experiences! Cannot accurately describe how beautiful property was and was so full of wildlife. Our hosts, Jennifer and Ronnie were some of the nicest people we have ever met! We were lucky enough to visit while they were harvesting some of their garden. They graciously shared a bunch of their veggies. Ronnie was right, best corn we ever had in our life! We had total privacy while camping directly on river. So much room to set up camp as you like. We saw so many deer, otters, mink, osprey, herons and noisey ass geese! We stayed for 6 nights and it went by way too fast! We enjoyed spending most of our time hanging out at property, fishing and spending hours along bank and on your very own private dock, enjoying so many great views all around. Although we traveled from Florida just to camp and visit this area, it was well worth the trip and we will be back again. Can't recommend this hipcamp site enough! Thanks again Jennifer & Ronnie for the memories and we look forward to seeing you again!
