Russ is incredible. Warm, professional, and genuinely kind. You can feel that he actually wants you to have a good stay, not just check in and disappear. Any question we had, he answered. Anything we needed, he handled quickly. He’s the exact type of host that makes you want to come back just because you know you’ll be treated well.
We visited with our dog, and even he loved it. There’s plenty of open space for pets, plenty to explore, and the whole area is safe, clean, and easy to navigate. It made the trip feel like a getaway for us instead of just a weekend escape.
All around, our time here was honestly perfect. Peaceful mornings, cozy nights, plenty of nature, and a host who goes above and beyond. Whether you’re coming to relax, explore, or just hit reset on life for a little while, Russ’s Campground is exactly the place you want

Camping at Camp McFender was a great experience and I would definitely recommend! we had lovely hosts that care for their land well and want to provide a quality experience for their guests. The land itself is beautiful and a lovely place to relax, we loved the creek!

I stayed at campsite #3. Campsite had a picnic table and an area for a fire. The campsite is located about a 3/4 of mile from the main road. Very quiet and remote, perfect for camping. A small creek borders the back of the campsite and the sound of running water at night makes sleep come quickly.
For anyone interested, I have Verizon and could make calls and receive texts, but don't expect to do any streaming.
I would definitely use this campsite again.

We had a relaxing time at camp mcfender! We ended up staying at site 3 since there was no other sites booked. Both site two and three are cozy and both have creek access. The sites are in a nice secluded area of the property. It would have felt a little less private especially on the creek if the other site was booked. Russ has a lot of mountain bike trails on property so it would be a great spot for someone wanting to camp and ride.

Awesome, private , well kept campsite. We loved it. We had a large group (family) and there was plenty of room to spread out. Two campers 13' and 16' and two tents all on unique sites. No problems getting in or out. Russ is right, 16' is probably the max you can get down there. We hip camp a lot and Russ's spot has moved way up the list of favorites.
Russ was great, very responsive and helpful.

We stayed at campsite 1.
We loved the creekside campfire. Very private and quite with plenty of shade. Falling asleep to the sound of the water. The dogs had fun exploring too.
Hosts were friendly and went above and beyond to help our family feel welcomed. The outhouse was kept clean. The whole property is gorgeous with lots of pleasant surprises on the trails.

Great location, we were traveling from DC and had an easy journey to the campground. Everything was maintained well, site was clean. Russ was so welcoming and helpful! Lots of trails and things for dogs to do! Will visit again!

Camp McFender was awesome! We were greeted upon arrival and got to meet (and feed) some pretty awesome cows! The property is kept up very nicely with great biking/hiking trails. The campsite was secluded right up against the creek. The sound of the creek at night can’t be beat! Our dog was thrilled to play in the creek and roam our campsite. We’ll definitely be back and thankful for such an awesome place to getaway.

Beautiful property! Campsite was perfect for resting after a long day. Sleeping at the sound of the rolling creek was a bonus!
Russ is a great host and I will definitely book the campsite again when I’m back in the area.

I really enjoyed my time at Camp McFender! The trails were great and the Bent Creek was amazing to listen to while around the campfire and going to sleep for the night. The compost toilet/outhouse was very well taken care of.
Russ was very friendly and even gave me a little goody bag when I arrived! I'll definitely be back.

Had a great time tent camping. The directions were clear and the site was great. Russ met with us after arriving to introduce himself and gave us the lay of the land. There are nice trials near the sites that provide great hike's. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

what a wonderful camping location!!! The stream was great to listen to at night, there were plenty of great spots to camp for our whole group (8 of us), including off-road campers (small ones) and a couple of trucks with overhead tents. There were plenty of tent sites along the stream and we are far enough away from the main roads to have a peaceful camping experience!! There was even a Johnny house up from the campsites available, if needed. Very accommodating hosts as well Thanks for a wonderful place to have a weekend getaway!!

This campsite was amazing for the whole family adults, kids, and dog had a blast. We were able to play in the creek, with a zip line during the day and listen to it run at night while we sat around a camp fire. Russ was an amazing host and we couldn’t ask for better we would definitely come back.

Nice trails to hike and bike. Fun creek to cool off. Russ was a great host who made us feel very welcome! Highly recommend.

AHMAZING SPACE! We absolutely loved it! We will be back! We were so lucky to be the only campers so we had the whole place to ourselves! BTW if you are into mountain biking DEFINITELY take your bike! He has awesome trails to walk or ride !! We actually exhausted the dogs. The hosts clearly have an awesome sense of humor, be sure to look for the gnomes! Side note: if you’re not from VA please note early April can be “iffy” camping but we still absolutely loved it! (We are from VA so we expected some weather challenges lol.) We absolutely highly recommend this host and his property … we can’t say enough how much we loved the land. We have used the app before and so far this is our absolute favorite spot!

Russ’s land was the ideal retreat for a Fathers Day weekend. The glam ping is spacious and comfortable, with a great view from the deck. The creek is a short walk and is great for cooling off.
After a fun day of walking the trails and exploring the property, we spread our blanket in the clearing in front of the tent and enjoyed the clear night sky.

Great spot on a flowing creek. 2 tents, 2 kids, 1 dog … great time! The trails are great for mountain biking, well maintained and marked, lots of routes to pedal or hike. Russ is super responsive, even offered to show us the trails but the timing didn’t work out. Limited Wi-Fi, biodegradable soap to wash the pup was handy.
