Big Sky Tent Deck
It’s not clearly advertised that the site is not just a walk-up, but a hike-to. The trail leading to it is also not well maintained, overgrown and flooded. There are food lockboxes at the site, but you’re not allowed to use them, because that’s where the host keeps his liquor. One could stay at an AMC campsite with more amenities for a third of a cost.

Scott was very helpful and accommodating. We would recommend this rv spot for anyone looking to stay in a beautiful part of VT and get up close and personal with some very cool animals. Our kids did not want to leave.

RV camping was perfect. Scott is exceedingly accommodating and kind when unforeseen issues pop up during your trip, of which we had a few to no fault of the farm’s. Our RV ran great off of his 30 amp extension cord provided to us and he made sure to ask multiple times if we needed anything from him.
The animals are so well loved and content, as all the other reviews boast. We were greeted by a very sweet mother daughter donkey duo and there were friendly pigs, one who loved belly rubs.
If you are here to hike, this is your property. On the last day of our trip I did a trail run while waiting for an issue to be resolved with our camper up to the main overlook. It is such a treat, but bring your tick spray for the summer months. The forest holds all sorts of cool things to scout for (statues, signs, and lots of rest areas to take breaks) as you enjoy the dense wilderness.
I would absolutely book again, simply magical!

We loved staying in the Greenhouse! It was a rainy weekend (12th rainy Saturday in a row?) and it kept us perfectly dry. Beautiful location with the sweetest donkeys and pigs! We had a blast.

We had a wonderful experience at the Willoughby Farm Animal Rescue! The view at our campsite was amazing. Scott was very helpful and the campsite had everything we needed to make it a comfortable stay. Just be warned that it is a bit of a walk to get to the tent site so we found it helpful to have everything packed up in our backpacks.

Cozy farm with friendly animals! Scott greeted us and helped us get setup. We walked all of the trails (even the steep one up to the overlook) - views were amazing and spent the days feeding the animals. If you like animals and are comfortable with them hanging around your camp, then you’ll love this hidden gem. Animals were calm and fun to watch (especially the Guineafowls)

Willoughby Animal Rescue Farm was a great camping experience. A group of us booked three sites: Greenhouse, Buddha North, and Big Sky. There were no other groups staying at the farm at the same time as us so we mainly hung out and cooked at the greenhouse site and set up tents at the communal tent site as they were located closer to the car. We camped at Big Sky the first night. The sun set was amazing and is a must see. It is definitely worth the short hike (the hike is not difficult if you’re a hiker, non-hikers might think otherwise). The animals were super cute. The donkeys, pigs, and ducks greeted us upon arrival and anytime we needed to get something out of the car. They loved the apples and carrots we fed them! The sheep and alpacas roam around the communal tent site and greenhouse areas. Scott also put together a scavenger hunt which encourages guests to explore the property. Definitely a unique experience!

Pretty much great from the start! Good directions, friendly host, site was amazing. It IS a pretty steep hike to the site, wish I had packed lighter, but an amazing view, private, quiet (there was some farm equipment noise, plus the rooster needs to learn that its job is to crow at dawn…then stop. Or it should crow the hours.) Anyhow, big thanks to the Willowby Farm Rescue for a wonderful visit!

Unique opportunity to support a farm animal rescue and interact with the animals. A variety of campsites from very remote to close to the road. Remote campsites offer a great wilderness experience. Scott is a very knowledgable person, friendly and a good host.

Big Sky Tent Deck
We had a great stay at the Big Sky Tent Deck. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted by some donkeys - which was amazing! The animals were very friendly and loved the attention (and the carrots)! The property was beautiful with lots to explore & the view from our site was amazing. Would recommend this to any fellow backpackers & people that don’t mind a quick (but steep) hike to camp. Great experience & Scott was very insightful and friendly!

The site is not accessible. I opted to rent one of their gorilla carts to bring my equipment up to the site as I knew it was far and up a hill. What I didn't realize was that halfway though the hike, you are expected to bring the cart to a fence, lift it 6 foot up over a ladder and put it in another cart inside the fence. If thats not annoying enough, the ladder descends into exactly where the pigs sleep, so its quite dirty and muddy. Thankfully a long term camper opened up a large gate for me to get my stuff through, but he made me feel so guilty as the entire he was helping me he kept saying "I'm not supposed to do this". I'm not sure why the host didn't offer to open up the gate for me. I thought there would be an actual swimming pond as described, but really, it's a little watering hole that the pig drinks from and it's kinda stagnant - the picture with lily pads. The two other ponds they have are very dirty and covered in duck poop. I dont understand why they think someone could swim here. The toilet was completely unusable as it was absolutely covered in spiders and no way to get them off. Apart from that, the host sent me a message saying that check in was at 3, and when I told him my reservation on hipcamp was for 2, he didnt bother responding, asking instead about the carts. I asked a second time about the reservation start time and no response. Seeing the poop filled animal pens made me understand why the campsite and the host are so cheap. Go somewhere else.

Farm Animal Rescue Group Site
When we arrived on our bikes, Scott was there to cheer us on and gave us frozen mango, cold soda and some home-brewed sangria drink. What a welcome! The camp felt safe and secure to leave our bikes out.
The group site was not quite what we had expected. The grass was overgrown and the tables and chairs were scattered all around. And since it's a pasture with alpacas and pigs, there was feces all over the place, so no barefoot walking. We tidied up the table ourselves and were hoping we could turn on the patio lights, but those were broken. We were looking forward to the pond, but it was just a tiny little swimming hole. It worked to cool us off, but with the awkward entry and the muddy edges, it wasn't that relaxing.
The pit toilet is an adventure. But it works as advertised.
I think if the pasture had some mowed/cleaned-up areas, we would have loved this. And if we didn't have a two night minimum with extra charge for every person. But there aren't many camping options for cyclists in this part of Vermont.

Our time at Willoughby was so wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and spacious and the animals are the best companions. Make sure you bring plenty of carrots and apples because the donkeys and the pigs will be your best friends. Scott is an amazing host. He answered our questions and made the stay so enjoyable, everything demonstrates how much effort has been put into the place. He let us be a part of the farm for one day of our stay and I appreciated getting insight on how it functions. Make sure you spend a couple of days here so you can explore and see all of the hidden treasures!
Can't wait to return and volunteer in the future!!

If you really want to disconnect from the known daily go-too-fast-world, book the Grandmother Pine Tent Deck. You'll be alon in the forest after leaving you car and humanity behind! Take your stuff, follow the boos' instructions and you'll be out of this world. Had a wonderful stay here!

Great trip with Scott, a very unique hipcamp!
Kids loved all the animals. We had a great time. We will go back.
I wish I’d have known:
* main campsite is a pain to get to, you have to climb over the fences and do the same with your gear. Then we borrowed a cart to move it.
* main campsite has very long grass and it’s wet in the morning. This may be obvious but I’ll point it out, bring extra socks and towels
* there is poop everywhere… as you’d expect from a farm/rescue.

We decided on Scott’s farm on a whim and didn’t know what to expect with the farm itself let alone first time camping. Scott was a very good host with a very free spirit. As stated we were first time campers so we slightly overpacked for the walk that we needed to complete to our site. Any other site that was further I would have packed it up right at the start and went home so if you do camp here be ready to walk with your stuff a little distance! But over all we felt secure, secluded, free and at peace. The farm animals were all so friendly and our favorites by far were the donkeys and pigs! There was a lot within driving distance of the farm but also so much land on the farm itself with tons of firewood and places to kick back and hangout. Thankful for bug spray and fires to keep the bugs away cause they did get a little intense at night! But we did enjoy our stay at the camp site it’s definitely more of an experienced camper site but can’t really complain!

This place is delightful and whimsical. The animals are ridiculous and the location is peak Vermont. My only advice is that the Big Sky tent site is VERY far away, up a steep hill, so it’s good for backpackers but not car campers with heavy gear. Luckily Scott let me stay at a more convenient spot so I didn’t have to schlep all my gear up there!

My girlfriend and I very much enjoyed the greenhouse, the rescue animals give a unique feel to this campground and some may even stop by to say “hello” sometimes, such as the group of geese on patrol or an alpaca or two if you stay still enough.
Scott was a great host and I would highly recommend a stay.
