Welcome to Slatki Dom ("Sweet Home" in Bosnian), our beautiful retreat in the woods. Our land abuts a hiking trail on the side of Spruce Mountain, and we are about ¼ mile from the trail head to Spruce Mountain Trail and LR Jones State Forest, the oldest State Forest in Vermont. Cross country skiing trails are nearby and ski resorts are 40 minutes to an hour away. 10 minutes down the road is quaint Plainfield Village, with a small pizza shop, used bookstore, cafe and gas station. 5 minutes further is Fox Market and Bar and the River Oddities shop. A twenty minute drive from the cabin brings you to the cities of Montpelier or Barre which are host to a variety of museums, parks, local stores and restaurants and a few larger chains and grocery stores. Come nighttime, the futon folds into a double bed that can fit two. There are lamps upstairs and downstairs and many outlets to charge your devices for tomorrow's adventures. Accessibility notes: There is parking available for two cars. There is a 500 foot walking path through the woods to the cabin. The cabin is not ADA accessible and has a set of steep stairs. Not quite a ladder, but steep! No pets please as we have two sweet cats and a loving dog who prefer to have their space. :)Our fantastic tiny house, Shacktastiq, is well equipped for a weekend getaway, a one night stop on a road-trip, or a week-long art or writing retreat. On the first floor, you'll find a kitchen with a pump sink, a kettle, cookware pots and pans, a two burner propane stove, and a small fridge. Facing the kitchen is a table with seating for three and a comfy loveseat. Upstairs, guests can relax on a comfortable futon couch or pink chair to read a book or catch up on your favorite show using the wifi. There is extra floor space upstairs if you have extra guests wanting to sleep on the floor on your own sleeping pads. A writing desk faces expansive windows looking out over our small pond, grassy knoll, and the wooded valley below. The house is perched on the side of a hill and from upstairs feels like a tree house! A composting toilet can be found at the top of the stairs and a simple outdoor shower will be available in the summer. To reach the house you will park on a dirt/gravel driveway, and then walk about 2min. on an grassy path through the woods and then next to our small pond to the house. After dark, this path is lit with solar lights. The house requires one step to enter. The upstairs is accessed via ladder/stairs.
