Our farm & campground features stunning, panoramic views of the First Branch of the White River in the verdant hills of central Vermont. It overlooks the village of Chelsea, the shire town of Orange County. Free Verse Farm is a hilltop herb farm run by two art-making, herb-loving farmers. The property boasts twenty sloping, knoll-laden, open acres overlooking the First Branch of the White River as it passes through the scenic village of Chelsea, Vermont. We have incredible views, forest trails that offer magical woodland wanderings, and spacious campsites in our fields. We also invite you to explore our cultivated fields of herbs and vegetables and become acquainted with the wide variety of tea, culinary, and medicinal herbs that we grow and process on our farm. You can also visit with the cows that spend their summer munching our delicious green pastures. Our full line of herbs and herbal products are for sale via our website or at Free Verse Farm Shop, located just one mile from our farm in downtown Chelsea. Our Farm Shop offers a wide variety of fresh produce, provisions, fresh baked goods, alcoholic (& non-) beverages, and more to enjoy during your stay or as you continue on your journey. AMENITIES: we offer a hot outdoor shower & sink, as well as an outhouse with a composting toilet. Each campsite has a firepit and a picnic table. CAMPSITE DETAILS: We currently have 2 campsites open. They are located in meadows with beautiful views of the First Branch Valley and Chelsea village. 4 wheel drive is recommended, but not necessary, and you are always welcome to hike up to your site. The site is spacious and private. LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: We also run Free Verse Farm Shop (OPEN: Tuesday-Friday 11am-6pm, Saturday 9am-3pm), a local grocery, café, and apothecary to serve our community and visitors to the area, while supporting local farms and artisans. You can also pre-order online (shop.freeversefarm.com) to pick up in store or ship your order around the USA. The village of Chelsea hosts a weekly summer farmers market May-September on Fridays from 3-6pm (mid-May through September). In downtown Chelsea there is gas station (110 Quickstop), two town commons, a small library, and a general store (Will's Store), and a farm stand (Chicken Wiggle Farm). Within 20-45 minutes of our farm you can reach the larger towns of Montpelier (state capital), South Royalton, Randolph, Woodstock, White River Junction, and the Upper Valley Region (Dartmouth College), all of which offer a wide variety of attractions and services. Upon your arrival, you will be given a welcome packet with more detailed information about our area, and we'll be happy to provide you with any other tips you're looking for. This private, spacious campsite is situated at the top of our Upper Meadow at the edge of the forest with breathtaking view of the hills and valleys surrounding our land. There are some nice shade trees around the site and level ground for your tent or camper. You will also find a picnic table and benches, along with a firepit. The outhouse is a few hundred yards down the hill, and the site is about a 10 minute walk to our farmhouse for the outdoor shower and sink.

This private, spacious campsite is situated at the in the middle of our fields with breathtaking view of the hills and valleys surrounding our land. You will also find a picnic table and benches, along with a firepit. The outhouse is a about 100 yards away, and the site is approximately a 5 minute walk to our farmhouse for the outdoor shower and sink.

Free Verse Farm is an excellent private site to camp with a magnificent view. It also has necessary amenities such as restroom and water. Misha is very kind and helpful. I’ll definitely choose this site again if I am in Vermont

We loved camping at Free Verse Farm! The area was beautiful and the view was stunning! They were gracious hosts and I would recommend this site to anyone for a rural getaway. One note: I drove in with a Subraru Impreza and did scrape the bottom of my car a little (no damage though), even going very slowly, on a few spots. I would suggest making sure your vehicle has enough clearance to make the drive up to the site. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay! The toilet is really cool and clean, too!

Top Tier Vermont Outdoor Experience

I tent camped at the Forest Edge campsite and it was immaculate. Our hosts were very welcoming and polite, and they gave very detailed instructions on where to find everything we needed. The campsite is large and flat. We enjoyed seeing our hosts go apple picking on the land while we were there - there are apple trees everywhere! The view overlooks the small town of Chelsea below. I went in September, and I was able to drive my sedan all the way to the campsite. Our hosts were strict with their no-pets policy. We always take our cats camping, so this was disappointing. But I also get it - dogs interfere with their farm, and cats are unfriendly to insects and wildlife. We try to be as responsible with this as possible, but not everyone is like that so I would probably have the same policy that they do. It was very apparent to me that Misha incorporates highly sustainable and nature-preserving practices on the farm. It felt very nice to be in the company of folks who see land and other living things as something to live with and tend to rather than a thing to take advantage of. I will definitely be staying here again.

We loved staying at Free Verse Farm. We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful child and mother who showed us where to get water and where to shower and wash dishes. The camp site was very clean and tidy. The view was absolutely amazing and was worth every penny. It was very quiet and peaceful. Our hosts were extremely accommodating. I brought my newly pregnant wife for her birthday. If you are looking for a romantic spot to camp this is the place. We stayed the second week of September and the leaves are just starting to change. Beautiful spot. Thank you Free Verse Farm!!

Free Verse Farm was just amazing. Definately o vigor favorite Hipcamp stays. The property and campsites are just beautiful. Great views, the outhouse was so nice and clean. We had a beautiful stay at free verse farm! Private camp site overlooking the gorgeous property below and the town of Chelsea. Really cool to see the herbs growing on the farm! This campsite was perfect for a restorative weekend in nature.

We stayed at the Forest Edge campsite and lived staying near. The views are amazing and Misha was so nice. He greeted us upon our arrival and instructed us how to reach our site. The bathrooms were very clean and the shower was so nice. We refilled our water jugs next to the shower at the wash station. We also visited the free verse farm store which was amazing for picking up locally fresh groceries to cook for dinner. We will definitely be staying here in the future.

Amazing views, with many outdoor attractions within 45 min from the site. Having shower and an outhouse within a walking distance is very convenient. Just one thing, there are no trees at be the site for shade or setting a tarp if it was raining.

I had a lovely two night stay at Free Verse Farm. The view of the mountains from the Forest Edge Campsite was incredible to wake up to in the mornings. It felt very safe there, the campsite was super clean, and Misha and his family were so nice and accommodating. There is basically no firewood to be bought in the area, so be sure to add some bundles when you book!! This property is amazing and worth every penny.

To say that our stay at Misha’s campsite was excellent would be an understatement; this trip at free verse farm was legitimately revelatory. I’d never experienced a more refreshing feeling than I did waking up to the clear view of the Vermont mountains calling from our tent, with the pink/orange glow at sunrise illuminating each leaf of each tree individually. Everything about this location is breathtaking, and the hospitality of Misha and his family only further propelled our satisfaction with the stay. We will be heading back as soon as possible.

The view was great, and it was very private. Have a car with 4/AWD as the roads up to the site are no joke. The nearby town is awesome too. Watch for ticks!

Beautiful campsite at Forest Edge! Waking up to the clouds settled in the valley was the most serene way to start the day. Chelsea is the cutest village, definitely stop in at the farm store if you can!
