Directions to the location were clear and there is a well maintained area for camping. Glad I was able to spend the night and would gladly do it again!

This was my first hipcamp experience, so I was a little uncertain how it all works. Sarah was readily available through text to answer my many questions as we arrived. The other people staying there were kind and friendly. They introduced me to all the farm animals. I loved the baby goats, horses and big brown and white Tom turkey, but my favorite were the great Pyrenees dogs! It was a good hipcamp experience.

SHAMBA - Permaculture Farm Campsite
We had a good time tent camping at Sarah’s farm! The directions were very clear and Sarah was a friendly host. The spot by the pond is beautiful, especially with the bluebonnets blooming. I would highly recommend coming in spring for that reason (though it was a bit dreary and cold for us). It’s also fun to see the ducks waddling around the campsite. There are lots of animals to visit, like dogs, goats, horses, ducks, chickens, geese, and a turkey. We heard some frogs and an owl, but the did not make an appearance. My two-year-old son really enjoyed the play set and trampoline as well. The composting toilet was also very pleasant. We were closer to the other tenants than I expected, but everyone I interacted with was friendly. Great spot if you like plants and animals!

We had a wonderful time at Sarah's place. The animals were so sweet and friendly. The hammocks were relaxing, and the stars were shining bright! The outhouse was great and we were able to use the grill and water spicket. Sarah was very accommodating and I felt very safe and welcomed here. Definitely get the farm-fresh eggs!

We loved tent camping on Sarah’s property. The land is beautiful and once you get closer to the pond, it feels secluded and forested. There is a dry compost toilet in the outhouse and running potable water as well as trash cans for food waste. We also purchased fresh farm eggs from her chickens. Overall, it was a great camping experience for us with an infant.

We wanted a secluded spot where we could have some time away with our two teens. We could pitch our tents anywhere on their property but we went to the cleared out area near the pond. It had ducks and geese, a cat that came by both days we went there, a fire pit with all we wanted to use firewood for $5, and an outdoor toilet in a tent. At night the ducks and geese were put away and then the most interesting frogs croaked all night long. There is also road noise too when sleeping at the pond. If you like it quiet, bring earplugs or be prepared to laugh about it the next day! One funny comment, my 9th grader son who slept in his own tent said that he woke up in the middle of the night wondering who had the bright light on. When he looked out his tent, he realized it was the moon! This is exactly what I hoped for, some time away from electronics and our normal life to do something different and together for a few days. We stayed 2 nights. It was so hot and not a lot of shade for us our first whole day so we ended up driving 30 min to watch Batman at the movies. 😆 We could have checked out the trampoline, hammocks, or the baby goats also on their property- but we didn't. It was nice to see though. My daughter said it was a nice spot because of the animals.

Sarah’s stay was fantastic! It was such a unique experience to be so close to Austin and still be surrounded by nature and animals. Loved all of the ducks, goats, dogs. Would definitely stay again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The first impression upon arriving is of a well tended little Permaculture farm, with beautiful chicken coop and radiantly healthy chickens, great goat corral and very healthy goats and sweet dogs. For a Hipcamper there is available a nice lawn with a fire pit and hammocks and also a more secluded area (w toilet) by a little pond. We made a campfire down by the pond and were thoroughly entertained by the chorus of different frog songs that ensued as the evening went along. Sarah our host was very available to communicate and provide while at the same time allowing us a quiet secluded country experience. It’s nice to know something that farm-like and woodsy is still happening that close to Austin.

We loved our brief stay at SHAMBA! Sarah was a very conscientious host, and checked in with us to make sure that we had all we needed. My 4-year-old got to help milk the goats and pet their very friendly cats. We will definitely return!

SHAMBA - Permaculture Farm Campsite
Directions to the property were easy to follow and getting settled was a breeze. This was the perfect place for us and our kids as they were plenty entertained by the farm, animals, playscape, and trampoline while I was able to setup camp and cook. Sarah was very communicative, warm, and easy going. She even let us watch her feed the baby goat. The farm is close to enough businesses that if you forgot anything—which we did—you're not out of luck. There are neighbors on the property but they were good a giving us space while being friendly. We got the half dozen eggs which were delicious. We came on a chillier weekend but still had fun. We'd definitely love to come back.

The host, Sara was very friendly and accommodating. The animals were great and did not interfere at all, if anything enhanced the experience.
I recommend the optional fee for the colorful eggs as they are really delicious and organic.
The toilet was easy to locate and unexpectedly sophisticated (electronic and portable).
We were looking for the most primitive experience which we definitely got although we had to traverse across barbed wire mutliple times. Another option that I recommend is the $5 firewood as this is basically a necessity.

Our stay at shamba farm was great! Sarah provided us with detailed and clear instructions on how to reach the campsite and was very attentive during our stay. We pitched our tents near the pond and enjoyed interacting with the dogs and goats on the property!

What a wonderful place to get away from the hustle of the city (and life in general!) Sarah was so welcoming, provided clear punctual communication and and overall a great host! The space has flexibly to be very private or social, depending on your needs. I absolutely loved the goats and chickens! And Sarah’s family and other tenants were very kind and respectful! It was a joy to stay at Sarah’s and I can wait to book again!

Sarah was lovely and accommodating, and we enjoyed seeing the goats and petting their sweet guard dog. Unfortunately since we came in August, the pond was empty and the scenery was probably not as lovely as it is the rest of the year, but that's no one's fault except the Texas heat. It is a fairly small property and the main house is close by, so be aware that it won't feel exactly like a traditional camping experience, but if you're looking for a safe experience with a play area for kids, I would recommend this spot for sure!

You do hear a lot of road noise out there if you're tenting, and the public fire pit really isn't safe. It's all rusted out and there was dead grass all around it and underneath it, so you'll have to keep your fire quite small and watch it like a hawk. There also should be a hose or at least a bucket of sand near the fire pit. Other than that the place was lovely and the animals were friendly and obviously well cared for! I didn't talk much to the host, but she was pleasant and seemed kind.

My husband, infant daughter, and I stayed here for a one night, last minute Father's Day trip. Sarah was very responsive online and very friendly in person. She gave us a quick tour, let us help feed the goats, and checked in on us a couple times. The land was lovely. We all had a fun time watching the chickens and goats. The picnic and play area was great. And there are plenty of shady trees around so you aren't stuck in the blazing hot sun all day. We felt plenty safe as we didn't have to camp close to anyone else - which is always nice but especially while there's a pandemic going on. (As a side note - we also stopped in nearby Elgin to do a historical walking tour. We felt safe there as there were few people on the streets and each business has a sign clearly telling you if you need to wear a mask or not, etc.) This was a pretty quick trip for us from Austin and I am sure we will be back again in the future!

Enjoyed camping by the pond at Sarah's farm. We could see the stars from our tent and enjoyed the time in nature. Sarah was very accommodating and kind!

We had a great time staying at the farm! Sarah was so nice, responsive, and informative about all of the details. They let us meet and feed the goats and chickens, and we set up our tent in a nice spot by the pond. The picnic table, fire ring, and tap water were a huge help to have. We would stay here again :)

Sarah was so friendly and accommodating! When we arrived, even though it was late, she showed us the property and gave us a cute spot to camp at near the goats, bunnies, and dogs:} There was such a warm homey feel to this farm, I definitely recommend it if you’re passing through the outskirts of Austin:)
