Rio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road.  We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults.  One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience.  We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views.  We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas.  We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property.  It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey.  We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration.  Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

Rio Bravo 1

100%
(79)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 6 · Vehicles under 25 ft
Sleep under the light of a billion stars and awaken to a perfect sunrise over Agua Adentro Mountain, just minutes from Big Bend Ranch State Park. Campsite improvements include a 32” fire ring with cooking grate, shade structure and plenty of space to roam. You are in the midst of a property that spans from the Rio Grande across Alamito Creek and then across Casa Piedra.  Alamito Creek splits the property into the "Airstrip" side and the "Backside."  RB1 is located on the backside. The roads are improved and accessible by sedan or other low clearance 2wd vehicle.

Rio Bravo 2

RV/tent site · Sleeps 7 · Vehicles under 18 ft
Site is about 400 yards from RB1 and not visible from RB1. VERIZON AND AT&T have (LTE) service to the campsite area.  We have been told T-mobile does not have good coverage here. The Chinati potty is a 2 minute walk.  WASHER pit recently installed. There is a 125 gallon tank of non-potable water in the common area near the Chinati potty.  Feel free to use this water for showers and general camp use.  I would not drink it due to the fact that algae growth is seen periodically in the tank.  You have access to the Big Kahuna SHOWER by staying at this site.

Star Party @ Rio Bravo Ranch 4x4req

100%
(25)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 10 · Vehicles under 20 ft
Star Party is a high clearance, 4X4-only accessible site, capable of accommodating larger groups.  The road to the campsite is everchanging with rains and can go from fine to technical in the matter of a 2-hour period if the rain falls in just the right spot.   The first half of the road to the site is composed of large loose rocks, 6"-12" in size that can easily puncture a low lying oil pain.  The last half is along a drainage and is occasionally washed out with big rains.  There is an 80-yard run of sand where 4X4 is all but mandatory.   THIS CAMPSITE IS LOCATED ON A MILDLY IMPROVED RANCH ROAD AND THERE ARE BUSHES/CATCLAW/ALLTHORN/MESQUITE THAT CAN GROW INTO THE ROAD AND SCRATCH YOUR VEHICLE.  WE TRY TO KEEP THEM CUT BACK REASONABLY, BUT SCRATCHES ARE POSSIBLE ON THE ROUTE TO THIS SITE.  IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT VEHICLE SCRATCHES, DO NOT BOOK THIS SITE. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER TRAILER THAN AN OVERLAND STYLE TRAILER, DO NOT BOOK THIS SITE, RATHER LOOK AT RB1 WHICH CAN ACCOMMODATE A TRAVEL TRAILER. There is no cell service at this site proper, but you can usually get cell service if you climb to the top of the adjacent 30-ft high hill.  We get AT&T service there anyway. The shade structure here is larger than those at RB1 and RB2; it is 16 feet wide X 12 feet deep.  The portapotty, shower, wood and water are all a 10 minute drive from this site, so plan accordingly. There are multiple sandy spots to secure your multiple tents. If you are looking for the most isolated campsite currently available at Rio Bravo Ranch, this is it.  It will be you, the howl of the coyotes and the stars. We hope you'll book Star Party today!

RV/tent site · Sleeps 6 · Vehicles under 25 ft
THE NEWEST campsite at Rio Bravo Ranch with isolation provided by a locked entrance ensuring safety and extreme privacy that we enjoy. The site is very near the Big Bend Ranch State Park entrance and near La Junta, one of the most culturally significant regions in the southwestern US. You will find improvements including a Pilot Rock 32” fire ring with cooking grate, 12x12 shade structure over a 6’ Pilot Rock Aluminum Picnic table, as well as a graded area to place your tent. You are in the midst of a property that spans 3.5 miles from the Rio Grande across Alamito Creek and then across Casa Piedra. The roads are improved and accessible by sedan, if driven with discretion.
