Located on the banks of Salt Creek, the Red Feather Ranch offers a peaceful respite for hiking, off-grid camping and horseback riding. Although Salt Creek meanders through the ranch, for the bulk of the year the creek is dry with spring-fed pockets of clear, fresh water. The creek bed becomes a scenic trail. Large boulders and rock formations stand as silent guardians of time. The ranch boasts oak trees so large that two people standing with joined hands cannot touch fingers around the trunk of the tree. This secluded 133 acre ranch features many trails which climb in and out of Salt Creek. The ranch is surrounded on all sides by heavy forest. The Red Feather Ranch on Salt Creek offers opportunities for the intrepid hiker or rider with exciting and vigorous trails which crisscross in and out of the deep banks of the creek. For those wanting a more relaxing hike or horseback ride, they may hike or ride the level woodland trails or the creek bed itself. We offer day trips, hiking, off-grid camping, trails for horseback riding, horse camping, fishing, hunting fossils in the creek and archery. We keep deer blinds and stocked feeders so that guests may photograph wildlife. We also offer limited barnyard tours by appointment where guests may meet and feed our heritage breed Navajo-Churro sheep, our horses, chickens, cattle, and our Livestock Guardian Dogs. The ranch has two nice ponds stocked with bass and catfish. Bring your own pole or rent one. Although we offer tent camping in the forest, if guests want to bring their RV camper or living quarters horse trailer, space is available in the pasture near the south pond for set-up. At Red Feather Ranch, we open up our remote and secluded property to visitors seeking escape from the Rat Race where they can experience the raw beauty of nature and dip their toes into the pond of simple life on a farm with sheep, cattle, and horses.

Camping with animals
Had so much fun tent camping out here! Hosts were AMAZING super sweet people. Extremely secluded and peaceful get away. My two dogs loved getting to play in the pond, run loose, and hike up creek with us.

Amazing camp site and fishing!!!
Sheridan was so amazingly helpful and kind. She gave us the choice of the lots and checked in on us to make sure we were happy. We will absolutely 100% stay here again. The fishing was amazing - we caught 6 on our first 10 lines out!!! Bass, catfish, crappie, and perch on worms and lures. The scenery was beautiful and the optional animal tour was a giant plus. The site was well prepared with trashcan, semi-private toilet (it’s tarped off well enough), and clear walkway to the pond. The farm fresh eggs were delicious. We were so happy.

Red Feather Trails on Salt Creek
My 9 year old son and I brought our tear drop camper and were able to haul it to a nice and secluded spot next to one of the stocked fishing ponds. We caught around 20 bass, took the farm tour, cooked burgers on the Blackstone, and had an altogether fantastic experience. Sheridan and Robby were more than accommodating, they were extremely helpful and very friendly. I would highly recommend their place!

Paradise camping
The best place to camp in Texas! Sherry’s whole property is so beautiful and offers so much variety for the wandering soul! From Texas pasture, juniper woods, mossy rock bluffs, grassy open forest, to winding creeks that the dogs love to splash in, there’s really isn’t a more beautiful piece of paradise you can find in this great state! Plan to truly unplug and unwind! Sherry was incredible as hostess! She took my pup and i around her property showing all the gems to explore. There’s a picnic table, fire ring, even a luggable loo “house.” If you camp by the Mossy Bluffs there’s little to no wind. Definitely my top favorite place in Texas!

Red Feather Trails on Salt Creek
From the moment we arrived every member of our family felt welcomed and one with Red Feather Ranch. In a few short hours, we become part of a working ranch with Turkish livestock docks, Spanish lambs, and more bass than the kids could catch. Mom took private spinning lessons next to the pond, only to be out skilled by our 4 year old. Our 2 year old caught his first bass, weighing twice his age. Dad tried climbing a rocky bluff…the dog bewitched by morning turkeys gobbling in the brush. Our experience of Red Feather Ranch was perfect, even magic. And we have all this to thank of the host. Thank you!

Sheri and her husband were absolutely amazing! Their land is beautiful and filled with many great spots to camp! They are just lovely people who really went out of their way to make our trip extra special, and took the time out of their day to make sure we had a fantastic and personal experience. It’s a shame we didn’t get to stay longer, but the time we did spend was just amazing, I will remember it forever for sure! We can not wait to go back, this will for sure be our go to spot!
