We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes.  Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. For more information, feel free to take a look at our page on the San Antonio Conservation Society's website https://farmandranch.omeka.net/exhibits/show/blasherreraranch We use Hipcamp to help maintain, preserve, and restore the land my family loves so deeply. We're excited to share it with you and see what all we'll be able to do. Thank you in advance for your support! Coming soon: picnic tables, benches, outdoor cooking area, South Texas Jungle Gym, Pink Elephant Cantina (BYOB), and more! We're a five acre piece of a historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the beautiful Medina River. Must visit!!
Dax has got an awesome place with so much character! Plenty of flat ground to pitch your tent in each spot. During the days we hung out down by the river! Plenty of shade trees and the water felt great. The dance hall provides the perfect place to hang in the evenings. The string lights were a great touch and made it easy to navigate once the sun went down. Dax’s place has got everything that you need and nothing that you don’t! Bring your gear and a good time and it would be really really hard not to enjoy yourself. Happy Camping!!!

The main complaint I have hear is how loud it is. You can hear a nearby highway pretty much 24/7. Really didn't expect that. Otherwise, it was a fairly good, reasonably-priced and easily accessible property. The other campsites were a little bit close but that generally wasn't an issue as there was a lot of space to roam during the day.

A short drive off of 410, the exit off of Somerset can be a little tricky so keep your eyes open, especially if you happen to be arriving at night. Quaint campground with fire pit at each site. Short walk to the river! Woke up Saturday morning and drove 5 short miles to Walmart to buy a fishing pole and tackle. We caught and released Perch and Bass. We had a wonderful time, our dogs had a blast being able to run around off leash. It's Sunday and haven't heard a peep from them all day. Wore them out! 👍 There were other campers there but plenty of room between campsites where you didn't feel crowded! Dax was a gracious host and was quick with an answer to any questions we had! A short drive out of the city, perfect for a staycation for a weekend getaway. Once you're there it's hard to believe the big city is close by. Overall the perfect spot to get back to nature, sing songs around the campfire, sleep in a tent or under the stars and leave city life in the rearview! Will definitely be returning!!

Second Visit
Great place, this was my second trip here and ended up extending it. Did not want to go home. Dax is great. I highly recommend staying here.

The campsite has a lot of charm, likely due to its historical designation. While the shacks weren’t my favorite because of my concern about rattlesnakes, it wasn’t a major issue—I’ll just leave the dogs at home next time for peace of mind. The water location was absolutely stunning, and I’m already planning my next visit!

Weekend escape
We were the only people at the sight and it was great. A hidden gem in the city limits. We had technical difficulty with our gear, which was the point of going in the heat to make sure it was all working, but were able to forget about those troubles when we sat in the river for a couple hours. Heat little weekend escape.
