Casa de Cazadores (Hunters House) was built by local hunters in 1984 using limestone that is commonly found lying around the area, and other scavenged materials. The cabin was seldom used in recent decades and fell into ruin. The current owners have begun "fixing up the place" by replacing the metal roof, painting the exterior, hauling away tons of debris, and installing new electric service. The interior of the structure remains unusable at this time. This 10 acre property is part of the much larger Terlingua Ranch, that comprises roughly 200,000 acres and 1100 miles of dirt roads once owned by Caroll Shelby. The abundance of deer and other wildlife on the ranch ensure that hunting is still a popular endeavor in the area, but visitors are just as likely now to come for our annual Chile Cookoff, college breaks, or time in either of the Big Bend parks.

Everything was perfect and as expected! Our host was so helpful. The view was incredible and the little yellow wild flowers were beautiful. We definitely recommend this site and will stay again!

Casa de Cazadores
The campsite was really beautiful! There is a firepit and a table provided that can be used. There is a hunting cabin/trailer about 500 feet away from the site, but we didn't hear anything during our stay and once it gets dark you cannot see the trailer. The view at night is incredible!

Casa de Cazadores
We had a great time here. The host is definitely not exaggerating when he calls the view of the night sky “jaw dropping.” When the moon set, the stars came alive! We spent the day trekking around Big Bend National Park, so we were excited to be staying only 30 minutes from the front gate of the park. The directions to the campsite, and Google Maps link worked perfectly, so we had no issues finding the place. We hope we’ll get to return to Casa de Cazadores very soon! I offer the following as helpful info for future campers, and not as a critique of the place: It might be a good idea to bring a portable car battery charger. We had zero cell phone coverage (which is a plus in our book), but I spent a lot of time double and triple checking the dome lights in the car to make sure we didn’t get stuck (we didn’t, but not for my kids’ lack of trying). The ground is very rocky, so if you’re planning on pitching a tent, bring a stake mallet (although the lumber by the fire pit worked well in a pinch).
