Everfree Shire Ranch is an 11 acre estate nestled between quiet country houses and a very active horse ranch next door to the east. Rescue horses are also kept on the property in rotation. Much of the camping here is still a work in progress! So for now, a very private economical choice for campers! The central building has indoor lodging available and the side bathroom with indoor toilet / washer / dryer may be used by campers as well. A new outdoor shower is 95% complete and usable but swimwear is required because we have not finished filling in the slots between the wood fence panels. The RV Dump station is also ready for use as well as the new outhouse! If you forgot to dump on the way out or need to before arriving, please use the free dump stations on I-35 near Natalia on either side of the highway.

Please park in either the tent camper vehicle spots near the house or in the overflow parking area and set up camp in the backyard near back left corner. DO NOT OPEN THE GATE! The horses do not recognize the borders of Rohan! There is a bathroom / laundry combo that is shared with house residents which you may use. If you bring your own shower or outhouse tent / solution, that's fine. But please, only use the water spouts near your site. Outdoor shower privacy fence is incomplete at the moment so please wear minimum swimsuit or similar attire if you want to use it. The bathroom / laundry area on the side of the house is shared with the house guests, but available for use. Please use the covered electrical outlet. So he might not be here right now, he's a busy elf!" This site is the last one on the trail leading to the bathroom, laundry, and shower. It is not accessible by vehicle. Please park in either a regular parking spot or in the overflow area and walk to camp. There is a bathroom / laundry combo that is shared with house residents which you may use. If you bring your own shower or outhouse tent / solution, that's fine. But please, only use the water spout in the field pointing toward your site. 30 and 50 amp Amperage adapters are discouraged because they trip the breaker. The shower stall is operational. Please wear minimum swimsuit or similar attire if you want to use it. The bathroom / laundry area on the side of the house is shared with the house guests, but available for use. Pets must be on a leash / penned for safety. Generators are allowed, even for tent camping, but please have them off by 10 PM if possible. All trash must be bagged in a 13 gallon bag or above. If you need a can or lining, just ask!

He's been through some tough adventures! Spacious site with a simple setup! Water available via the hose coming from the trough junction or the spare spigot on the other side of fence. 15 amp standard electricity. Right now we just have extension cords. The entrance: Please use the paved entrance and turn LEFT through the gap. Center your site on the "mushroom light" on the fence line. There is standard electricity and a hose. Please only use the assigned water source. Amperage adapters are not allowed because they trip the breaker. Please align your vehicles facing towards or away from the fence line, not parallel. If you could setup away from my neighbors, they'd appreciate that. Privacy fence is pending. The shower tent has been replaced with a new outdoor shower. PLEASE NOTE: As of February 2025, there was some damage done to the grass by previous campers. The site was a bit unlevel and they decided to rake up the grass without permission or asking for assistance. DO NOT destroy the grass on purpose! It is VERY expensive!

Old Campers: Welcome back! Please be aware there have been some changes. This site is great for people who want to be far far away from... well everything except your neighbor and some horses. Do not open the gate! The horses do not recognize the borders of Rohan. Water is available via off-site spigots to fill up from the overflow parking spaces or other unused camp sites. There is a bathroom / laundry combo that is shared with house residents which you may use. If you bring your own shower or outhouse tent / solution, that's fine. 30 and 50 amp Amperage adapters are not allowed because they trip the breaker. Generators are allowed. Please turn them off after 10 PM if you have neighbors. Outdoor shower privacy fence is incomplete at the moment so please wear minimum swimsuit or similar attire if you want to use it. The bathroom / laundry area on the side of the house is shared with the house guests, but available for use. Pets are NOT recommended at this site due to the proximity to the neighbor's fence. There is a bathroom / laundry combo that is shared with house residents which you may use. If you bring your own shower or outhouse tent / solution, that's fine. But please, only use the water spout in the field pointing toward your site. Important: You must use the 50 amp plug even if stepping down to another amperage because the other plugs are for other sites. Step downs to 30 amp / 15 amp are available to borrow if needed. When using the outdoor shower please wear minimum swimsuit or similar attire if you want to use it. The bathroom / laundry area on the side of the house is shared with the house guests, but available for use. Pets must be on a leash / penned for safety. I loved camping on Michael's land, and would return! When we got here, our site was flooded so he allowed us to use another site temporarily while he had mulch and a drain put in so the site could be used even wet. Then, we quickly realized we had no shade and this site wouldn't work, so he let us switch to yet another site that wasn't booked to make our stay much better!! Mike is very accomodating and all around fantastic host! We moved to site 22, Smaugs site right next to the horses, which was definitely a highlight! Mike also provided DE for the ants in the site, and always asking everyone if they needed anything from town. Everyone there is so warm, friendly and welcoming. Truly great people here! The road noise is obnoxious but the host has no control over it, and most nights it's very quiet. The stargazing is OUT of this world, and the nearby small towns are full of kind people. We truly enjoyed our stay of 6 weeks at the shire, even got a chance to watch all extended edition LOTR movies and made memories with my kids. 10/10 would highly recommend this hidden gem!

Pros: I stayed with Smaug for 2 weeks and it was perfect. I loved being next to the horses. I got to see the total lunar eclipse because of all the OPEN skies here. The location is perfect if you want to spend time in San Antonio and the surrounding area. There is so much history here. Mike is a great host and all I had to do was ask if I needed something. You can’t beat the price for all the amenities you get. Cons: I wish there had been more grass but it’s hard to grow in a drought. A picnic table would have been nice. Some sites have them.

Great Host, Great Place. Michael is constantly improving his property and is a very gracious host. The shower is cold, crystal-clear, well water, and will take your breath away, but hey, its invigorating. Hwy 173, sometimes busy with Tractor Trailers passing, is close to some sites, Id recommend getting as far back from it as possible. AAA+

This was perfectly fine for a quick overnight stay, but I was not impressed by the facilities. The washroom/ laundry is shared with the main house and there is NO WAY TO LOCK IT FOR PRIVACY! The cleanliness was also an issue. The area is not well kept and feels like it could use a good clearing, cleaning, and organising. With a little more care it would be really great, but needs an influx of love and care. For $15, it was better than the Walmart parking lot. But not by much.

Very cool place and warm/welcoming environment. I stopped here on a bike tour to tent camp and would definitely recommend it. Everything was as described and I got a great night of sleep here. Michael was also very accommodating and let me arrive early. Hope to stay here again!

Michael is really nice and responsive. The sites are grass but close to level. I didn't use it, but there is a common area for a fire with a table and bbq. He also has a laundry and bathroom available. I had a 30 amp site with water and everything worked fine. It's less than 5 miles to Devine and it took me 35 minutes to get to the Alamo. My wife's verizon cell signal is a little weak, but my att signal was strong. I would certainly stay here again.
