There is plenty of desert solitude to be had at Camp Ursa Major. Around 2 miles east of TX-118, the campground is situated on 5 acres of land, offering campers panoramic views of 9-Point Mesa to the east, as well as mountains to the south. star gazing is spectacular, with the Milky Way and all our constellations in view.
You need only a 2-wheel drive vehicle to access this property as we are on well-maintained compacted stone roads.
Please see the list of amenities that we offer at camp!Site 01 has a recognizable flat, cleared area for pitching a tent. This site will accommodate even the largest of tents (larger than 10'), or multiple smaller tents. Please camp only in designated sites as the property boundaries are not marked and other folks own the adjoining properties. You will have access to the shared outhouse. It is a compositing toilet, so please add some soil from the bucket! We do not have potable water to share at this time so please plan accordingly. The recommendation for this area of the Big Bend is to bring 1 gallon of water, per person, per day. If you are coming in the winter months, you may need less. If you are headed to Big Bend NP, there is water available there, and there are small stores and gas stations along the remaining 35 miles to the park entrance.
