Wasn’t able to go-host reimbursed
Our party was really looking forward to camping here for Memorial Day weekend. I had contacted the host prior to making reservations ( on April 15th) and was told they would be opening for the holiday weekend, but to ensure, call back at the end of the month. I called between April 30th and May 2nd, sometime that week -and got the go ahead to book on hip camp… unfortunately the host reached out two days before our scheduled arrival to let me know that “due to unforeseen weather, the property conditions were delaying construction completion-which would delay their opening for the the holiday weekend”.
It was unfortunate that they hadn’t prepared ahead of time considering any potential weather mishaps, as they were still under construction ..I am very sympathetic that this construction was due to the hit from Helene, as my area in WNC was a direct hit with much more damage, however, after having 7 months to prepare for opening day and canceling 2 days prior (on a holiday weekend!) we were unable to find any other accommodations in the area and had to cancel multiple reservations we had (like a boat day, dinner, etc).
This was poorly time managed and a huge let down, with little notice to find accommodations anywhere near water during a holiday weekend for two small families.
I was reimbursed, but continued to get notifications from Hipcamp all weekend (unsure if host didn’t cancel it on their end or what) about this reservation, that the host had canceled on us.
