We offer riverside camping in it's simplest and most peaceful form! Primitive campsites with no water or electric - just you and the beauty that surrounds you! We are located in northeast Tennessee, near the Cumberland Gap where TN, KY, and VA meet. Our campsites sit on the Powell River, offering a peaceful retreat alongside one of the longest free flowing rivers in the eastern US! The Powell River is recognized as one of the most biologically diverse aquatic systems anywhere in the world. We're conveniently located 2 miles off of highway 25E, making it a simple 13 minute drive to the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Visitor Center and a 12 minute drive to the historic town of Cumberland Gap. Stay with us and choose between spending your day on the water or hiking the mountains! We offer 2 individual campsites with access to a shared riverfront and outhouse. Private Booking: If you are interested in reserving the entire property for a private experience or group-camp, please contact us for availability. Water: There is no potable water on-site. We recommend bringing your own or we will be glad to leave you water if you select this as an add-on! Pets: Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome. Please clean up after them. Alcohol: Adults of legal drinking age may consume alcohol responsibly. No glass bottles are permitted. Firewood: Available as add on/extra when booking. Parking: The gravel driveway leads into to a grass field which is our designated parking area for all guests. You must have 4wd to drive to your site. The sites are visible from the field and only about a 100 yard walk from the field. Gate: Our entrance has a well-loved farm gate, and we are working on building a new one. Please close the gate behind you upon entering to help maintain privacy during your stay. Footwear: While the riverfront is glass-free, we recommend wearing river shoes or sandals for safety. Lifejackets are not required, please swim and float at your own risk. Fishing is permitted; however, proper licensure is required. For the safety of all guests, fishing is not allowed in the beachfront area where guests swim and walk. Please walk upstream or downstream before casting. Looking to add some excitement to your stay? We'd be happy to rent you a tube or kayak to enjoy for the day!

This site is right on the river's edge! Play in the water while in sight of your set up. You have privacy from the field, road, and other camper setups. All campers without 4wd vehicles are asked to park in the field and walk the 200 yards to this site. Please note that our beach front is shared access for all campers regardless of campsite location.

We cannot wait to go back. We really enjoyed the private beach on the river at site 1. It was right on a small rapid. We walked up the river a bit and tubed through the rapid a few times and had a ton of fun. Was nice to sleep next to the river that evening too! The restaurant down the road was awesome too. A great spot to beat the summer heat. We are excited to visit again in the fall. We took a short day trip to Cumberland Gap for breakfast and coffee on the way out and just had a great time exploring the area.

This place was great! Even being well into the 90s and humid we had a great time! The owner ensured we had the wood we paid for through the app there for us, the grass was clean and cut short the beach was beauitul and there was no trash anywhere! I hope we left it in the same condition we found it. We will be back!

Extraordinary Campsite on the water

Going to this property was one of the best camping trips ever. First off, the owners were the perfect blend of being extraordinarily responsive if you had questions, but completely giving you your space. I stayed at campsite 1 and it was BEAUTIFUL! I saw a ton of songbirds, herons, hawks, eagles, Kingfishers, mergansers and on and on. The fishing was outstanding. I caught about 25 small mouth, 4 red-eye, and 2 redear sunfish. All were small, but it was a great day on the water. The big sycamore by the river is the perfect place to hang out, it provides great shade all throughout the day. This place is exceptionally clean, quiet and peaceful. My favorite hipcamp place to date. I can't say enough good about this place.

Such an amazing spot! The hosts were so welcoming. We enjoyed a tubing trip through them and thoroughly enjoyed it. The camp site was nice and private with the peaceful sound of the river. Definitely recommend!

I’ve been camping on the Powell River regularly for 5 years and at this property for the last few months. This is one of my absolute favorite areas in Cumberland Gap. The water is so clean and breathtakingly beautiful. My son loves playing down by the river for hours—he and all his friends always leave completely content. Every time I wake up here, I feel like I’ve had some of the deepest, most nourishing sleep of my life. There’s something truly special and peaceful about this stretch of the river. Cumberland Gap Adventure Company is run by some of the best humans and I’m so grateful for all the experiences I’ve had here since they began stewarding this land. I can’t recommend this place and this company (and all they offer) enough! Be sure to check out their storefront too—they have excellent, high-quality gear.

Beautiful and peaceful! Even though our trip got cut short due to the weather, we absolutely loved staying here! Couldn't have asked for a better spot; on the river and secluded. We enjoyed floating the river and seeing different wildlife and just sitting by the campfire listening to the water. Hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back one day!

Riverfront Field Camp 6
We absolutely loved camping here right next to the river! We didn’t have our own tent and the host provided one for us and set everything up before we got there. They also included a few cast iron pans for cooking, a hammock and plenty of firewood. The tent was set up right next to the river with our own private fire pit.
