Camp Chet was founded with the purpose to help people encounter God through outdoor experiences. It over 900 acres of private forested land on Whitwell Mountain, which is part of the Cumberland Plateau in Southeast Tennessee. Take a hike on miles of trails comprised of forest paths, old wagon roads, or coal mining roads. If you find a chunk of coal on the ground feel free to take it home with you as a souvenir. If you are a history buff, you may be interested in discovering previous caretakers from the late 1800's and early 1900's in nearby cemeteries. The camp ground is on top of a mountain, and you will have to go through a locked gate and drive over a mile and half on a bumpy gravel/dirt road. You will be most comfortable in a vehicle that is suitable for rugged terrain. Day trips less than an hour away include the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Rock City, Ruby Falls, Nickajack Lake and Bat Cave among many others. Come to hike, relax, bike, explore, and recharge.

We have a great place for those RVers that want to boondock. Our Outpost Camp RV area sits on a shelf with a 40' bluff above camp and plenty of open sky views of the stars at night. With over 900 acres of private Tennessee forest you will have plenty to explore. Make sure to bring your own water as utilities are not available in boondocking spots. The Pepoon at Camp Chet

If you are looking for an off-grid, quiet cabin in the forest we have just the place. The Pepoon cabin has a full size mattress for 2. There is also plenty of room to bring RV's or tents for an additional charge. The Pepoon is adjacent to a picnic table, grill, and a porta potty shared between cabins as well as a pavilion that is great for meals or a hammock spot under roof.   Make sure to bring your own water as utilities are not available onsite.  We do have a small propane heater available. You will need to bring your own Coleman disposable propane cylinders if you want to make use of it. Expect to use between 1 and 2 cylinders per night depending on temperature. The camp ground is on top of Whitwell Mountain, and you will have to go through a locked gate and drive over a mile and half on a bumpy gravel/dirt road. A vehicle that is appropriate for rugged terrain is best. The Kolts is adjacent to a wet weather waterfall and close to a picnic table, grill, and a porta potty shared between cabins as well as a pavilion that is great for meals or a hammock spot under roof. There is also plenty of room to bring RV's or tents for an additional charge.  Make sure to bring your own water as utilities are not available onsite.  We have a small propane heater available. If you are looking for an off-grid, rustic, more traditional camping experience, this quiet cabin in the forest is just the place. The Clark cabin is outfitted with 1 Full Bed and 2 cots and additional bunk cots can be rented to accommodate more people if requested. There is also plenty of room to pitch a tent for an additional charge.  Be sure to bring your own bedding and sleeping bags for cots, and also your own water as utilities are not available onsite. (There is no electricity or potable water) It over looks a small creek during wet weather and a small frog marsh to lull you to sleep.  A 30 second walk will bring you to a picnic table, grill, and a porta potty shared between cabins as well as a pavilion that is great for meals or a hammock spot under roof. We have a small propane heater available. You will need to bring your own Coleman disposable propane cylinders if you want to make use of it. Expect to use between 1 and 2 cylinders per night depending on temperature. Its our second time at this location and it will not be our last. We always enjoy the quiet, atmosphere, and that our dogs can run trails with us. Host is very hospitable, the camp is always very well maintained.

The Pepoon at Camp Chet
I love, love, love this place! It was so quiet and peaceful and beautiful! I will definitely be back for another visit! Owners were very nice and just wanted our stay to be perfect. Spent a lot of time swaying in the skychairs. I wanted to pack them up and take them with me! If your looking to unplug from the world for some peace of mind and spirituality, this is definitely it!

Fantastic camping spot, we'll be back! We started off on a mistake, not reading the directions again before arrival and made a one of a kind trip to the backcountry of the property with our trailer. Host were great! They were so patient and helpful as they helped us navigate our way out of the self imposed conundrum. Once we got to our site, we loved it. Site was great, it was quiet. Everything was well taken care of. The portal potty was the cleanest one ever!

A Weekend Off The Grid!

The Kolts at Camp Chet
Our family had the most amazing time at Camp Chet! We had everything we needed for an amazing and comfortable stay in our camp area. Even with 2 adults and 3 teenages, we all slept comfortably in our little home for the weekend. We had no need for electricty of running water as part of our stay, all the things we needed we brought or were avilable for us (grill items, wash water from rain barrell, lanterns). Our host made sure we always had what we needed and was only a phone call away if we needed them. There is endless trails to explore and you really are secluded into nature, this is the best part of it all, silence and quiet. We are excited to plan our next trip there again to enjoy and explore more of this beautiful property.

The Kolts at Camp Chet
We had a lovely time at Camp Chet! There were several well-marked hiking trails, a grill, firewood, and a fire pit right by the cabin, and a shared pavilion area with a clean porta-potty, picnic tables and hammock chairs. Communication from the host was excellent, and all the facilities were very nice and well cared for.

Best camping I ever had

The Kolts at Camp Chet
I love everything about this place. The nature around the cabin is amazing. We had a rainy day that we thought will be rough to keep kids inside but it turned out to be a great rainy day. Me and my hubby stayed on the little porch and watched the beautiful and peaceful rain while our children were playing. It was the most relaxing day. We didn’t had much time to explore the trails but after the rain we had 3 waterfalls around to explore. After 2 days of being there I felt so calm and relaxed. It recharged me for sure. Also the hosts Robert and Ruth were very kind and helpful. I can’t wait to book the next trip. Thank you Robert and Ruth, your place is a complete connection with the wonders of nature.

I loved it and cant wait to get back. I might go ahead and book my next visit! This was exactly what the doctor recommended. It was so peaceful surrounded by nature for the weekend and the view of the stars I will always remember. Thanks having me! And I can tell the hosts really care about the experience. Trails are awesome

We loved this camp site. We were surprised that they had water and electricity although we were prepared with our solar panels. Robert was very nice and we used some of his firewood that he under a tarp until ours dried out. The hikes were well marked and fun. We will be back.

Beautiful, quiet campsite. We stayed at one of the boondocking sites. Very private, had a great view. The pictures don't do it justice. Robert and Ruth have extensive well marked trails throughout the property.

The Pepoon at Camp Chet
Robert and Ruth were great hosts. They were both very kind and helpful. We were shown around the property on an atv tour and given a history of the property and it’s former owners. The campsite was clean, well supplied, and we had it all to ourselves. There were charming touches all around the camp like hand carved faces in tree trunks, farm fresh eggs in your cabin, and games to play while relaxing under the pavilion. It was awesome to be able to take a hike with our dogs and let them roam free. We enjoyed this peaceful and relaxing vacation in the mountains.

The Pepoon at Camp Chet
Had a great time, the hosts were very available and communicative and made sure that we had everything we needed. The cabins were situated where you couldn’t see any others, it was very peaceful and quiet. The cabin was very well insulated and the bed was very comfortable and everything was neat and tidy. Great experience overall!

We had a wonderful experience at this camp!! The place was beautiful, the cabins and picnic area were perfectly kept clean and organized. The hosts are the best, very helpful and friendly, they were available at all times when had questions. Looking forward to going back soon.

Lovely Getaway
The Pepoon at Camp Chet
The place was beautiful and extremely quiet. A good change from our usual noisy campground experience. Robert, the host, was very accommodating with lots of thoughtful things that helped us have a good time. Not to mention, it was our first time using an outhouse and we were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of it. The night we spent was simple, relaxing, and just what we needed to cure our cabin fever!
