Located in a quiet, pristine valley, adjacent to the Natchez Trace State Park twenty miles southwest of Nashville, Tennessee, on 5000 acres of forested land. Miles of hiking trails. Big East Fork is a preserved natural space dedicated to connecting people to Tennessee's beautiful wilderness. Ten private parcels were cobbled together, originally built as private residences and farmstead. All houses are available for rent and camping sites are located near by. Twenty miles of hiking trails wind throughout the forest, leading campers by the lake, creeks, and seasonal and perennial small waterfalls. Wildlife residents include hawks, turkeys, coyotes, beavers, and deer. Showers are available at Big East Fork Retreat. See bigeastfork.com.

Site 1 - Camping by The Overlook
The host was not prepared to give us clear directions to the gate, nothing was marked, no instructions as to what we were even looking for the instructions were in the right when you turn off the road. Spot was quiet and mostly private but The fire pit and benches were completely over grown with weeds and grass. I had to beat the weeds back to get a fire going. Didn’t bother clearing the benches.

Site 1 - Barn-by-the-Creek
We booked this site last minute and so glad we did. We enjoyed hearing the babbling brook while making a fire in the fire pit. Access to electricity and a restroom was huge and made the camping experience a bit more carefree not worrying if our backup power source would last. Although close to Franklin you forget where you are and feel you’re worlds away when you look up and see the stars shining so brightly. I would recommend and look forward to returning for longer weekend.

This was a great spot for my 4 night stay. The view is outstanding! The space is very private but also easily accessible. Host was easy to contact and very flexible. I would definitely stay again.

Barn-by-the-Creek
The stay was phenomenal! Jonathan, Dee and the gang were fantastic! We had choices of spots to make home and each was better than the next. Their hospitality was heart warming and I’ll be sure to stay here again. Fresh eggs each morning, daily check ins and friendly conversations made for a wonderful stay. Be respectful and responsible with this place, it’s special.

It was such a treat for this spot to be my first Hipcamp experience. The spot was incredible. I got to have privacy (the 1st night), the stars were showing off and the grass was soft. Excellent spot. The host was also kind and I will definitely be back to this beautiful place.

Hippie Bus Hollow in Peach Orchard
We enjoyed camping at Hippie Bus Hollow! It was beautiful and serene. There is a creek that runs alongside the site which can be heard, makes for a peaceful night’s sleep. Would stay again!

Camping by The Overlook
The Overlook is a beautiful, secluded spot with an amazing view of the sunset. Benches available around a great fire pit. Plenty of room for Smoky, our dog to play ball. The host was exceptional, educating us on the property and area. Close to Lieper’s Fork, which was a fun town and distillery to check out.

Camping by The Overlook
Friendly hosts, beautiful scenery, plenty of privacy. There were three campsites available when we booked.... we enjoyed camping out by the bus. The site was shady, mowed, and in a fairly flat area... very comfortable for camping. In the evening, the surrounding meadow and woods lit up with fireflies. The campsite overlooks a wide, shallow stream. We enjoyed sitting on the rocky area alongside the water, watching fish dart through the water. There are several well marked trails within walking distance. We spotted some deer in the area while hiking, and some very vocal bullfrogs in a nearby pond. There were several sites we could have hiked to if we had been more motivated, but we felt like being lazy and enjoying the peaceful setting. Note: The is potable water and a portapotty nearby, but no on-site electric/water/potty. Folks with mobility issues might have trouble getting down the bank to the stream.

The host was very nice and the location was secluded and peaceful. The sunset and view was breathtaking. Kids and dog loved the large open space and it was well fortified with trees all around and a gate from the road. The hiking trail was not suitable for children so that was a shame. My big issue is with the advertising. From the hipcamp list of amenities it clearly states it has Bathrooms, Showers, Picnic Benches. It has NONE of these things. being so much more than other campsites in the area I really expected what was advertised. To not have picnic tables was truly surprising, but no toilets either. We had to leave after the first day. I think this is not suitable for a family with kids. If this is what you like that is perfectly fine however it was falsely advertised to have things it didn't so we were not prepared for that.

Camping by The Overlook
The Big East Fork Retreat is a hidden gem, tucked away in the hills of west Franklin near Leiper's Fork. There are several buildings and a farm on the retreat property with plenty of camping spots that give you the feeling of seclusion but convenience of being close to town. There's a lake for paddle boats and canoes, as well as a yoga studio and marked trails to explore. The overlook spot has both water and electricity with a fire pit, benches, chopped wood, and a trash can to use. The spot overlooks the valley and is right by, like steps away, from the Natchez Trace parkway, so bikers will love this spot. Animal lovers will enjoy this space as well; in addition to friendly farm animals we saw whooping crane, groundhog, and white tailed deer. There's plenty to see- a pond, a creek, a hill top meadow, a hippy bus, and Sunday community gatherings at the lodge. Definitely planning to go back here in the fall to see the leaves from this spot.
