My wife and I loved staying at Sarah and her farm. We stayed one night and it was perfect for our 32 foot school bus! Sarah greeted us upon anrrival and showed us where to access the shower and washer and dryer. The bathroom was newly renovated and extremely clean with incredible water pressure and temperature in the shower. We brought our two dogs and walked them on the property with our leashes. We bought a dozen of eggs from Sarah and they were scrumptious. Will definitely stay again!

We arrived late and left early, had a quick stop to sleep. The host met with us on arrival, she was very welcoming. Lots of space to park. The drive from I-90 to her property was beautiful, sunset and sunrise. It would have been nice to stay longer and see the animals, but our travel plans didn’t allow for it. Overall great stop!

I’ve been using Hipcamp for a very long time, and stayed at sites all across the country. For the price, this is definitely one of the best sites in the US!!! I actually stayed here a few years ago, loved it, and rebooked on my most recent cross country trip. They obviously put a lot of care into their land, and are a really really cool family. Get ready for really adorable animals, kind hosts, and the surprising beauty of South Dakota. There is little to no traffic on their road, a clean bathroom, laundry, a zipline (!!!), and plenty of space. Can’t ask for much more.
Will def rebook if I ever trek across the states again :)

Okay 10/10! I’m considering going back just to stay here again! I was solo traveling the mid west and picked this part of South Dakota so I could stay here and it was well worth it. Sarah was so flexible and met me on arrival and we instantly connected! She’s so lovely and so is her whole family! The day I arrived it was storming but she was willing to take me riding the morning I was leaving and it was the absolute highlight of my trip! I cannot believe how breathtaking their property is and everyone is so kind! She recommended The Office for dinner in Madison and it was a lovely spot and I instantly made friends!! I can’t wait to go back! Thank you so much Sarah!

We checked in with Sarah when we arrived and she gave us some quick information about the property and things we could do while there. There’s a hot tub, zip line, sandbox, and so much more. The farm had horses, goats, dogs, chickens, cows and kittens. The next morning we were even able to go horseback riding in the corral. Everything was very clean and we had a great time and also felt very safe!

Vermillion Hills Peaceful Getaway!
Sarah had a nice, level, spot carved out of their backyard, adjacent to a horse paddock. Her husband was home when I arrived, and he was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. They had a large fire-pit and a hot-tub ready to go. I didn't use either - I was content with a hot shower and my little fire-pot. Bathroom was spacious and they even provided towels.
Helpful tips for driving there...
If you're driving something very small - there were many miles of dirt road to get there. I had just traded in my Jeep Wrangler for a little crossover that has better gas mileage, and it did fine. But having come from Vermont a few weeks earlier where the mud was pretty intense, I wondered if I'd have made it in muddy conditions!
Their road is indeed clearly marked with the number, so keep your eyes peeled. Waze over-shot it by about 1/4 mile so I hadn't noticed the road sign as I passed. The distinction of Sarah's place is that it has a line of trees parallel to their house, clearly visible from the perpendicular road, which is the area with the campsite. Waze told me "I had arrived" at a point where I was on the big road, with fields on either side of me, and 3 groupings of buildings in view. Sarah's instructions say "they are the only farm in the valley." But personally I couldn't determine which was a farm versus something else. I guess I am not good at recognizing farms? (heh) :-)

Sarah was so sweet and accommodating from the start. I arrived late in the evening and she was gracious enough to greet me anyway. Lovely property with ENDLESS sky, and her dogs and other animals are just as friendly! It would be an easy choice to stay here again. & it was great to be able to take a shower!

Vermillion Hills Peaceful Getaway!
A great stop for anyone traveling on I 90 and wanting a unique experience! Beautiful meadow, well appointed bathroom available. Horses and farm animals. A truly relaxing experience. Was perfect for Van camping. Highly recommend for anyone with kids- within minutes of arriving my kid was whisked off with Sarah's adorable family and my daughter had THE BEST time. Sarah and her family were so warm and welcoming! Hope to be back!

Vermillion Hills Peaceful Getaway!
Sarah’s farm was just what we needed on our long haul to Custer State Park. We arrived mid-afternoon. Sarah met us and made sure we knew what all was available. She was open and welcoming to my husband, toddler and me.
On site there are horses, dogs, chickens and sheep (at least this is what we saw). My toddler loved petting the animals and had fun exploring the farm. We were allowed to play on the kids’ play equipment and use their toys and swing set. This was huge for our young child. We liked sitting with the dogs out by the fire and enjoyed the peaceful dirt road and clear night sky. The only traffic up or down the road was Sarah and her family. How wonderful!
The amenities make me rate Sarah’s place 10/10. She has a newly-renovated workout room, full bathroom and a washer and drier available for campers to use. This was extremely handy for traveling with a camper and toddler.
We definitely recommend Sarah’s stay for your overnight needs or extended stay (if available).
Note: Be prepared to travel dirt roads and be about 20 minutes or so from the nearest town. This suited us just fine as we live in a similar situation, but other campers may not be aware of this rural aspect.

Vermillion Hills Peaceful Getaway!
This was our first time camping with no hookups. It was an amazing experience! My kids had a blast playing in the sand box and the trampoline!
It was even better than our kids were close in age and they played so well together!
Sarah and her husband TJ were more than accommodating!
And their animals were great also!!!
We will be going back for sure!!!

Beautiful farm but terribly smelly

Overall it was a quiet, easy to find and get to camp site! Hosts have a garage you enter to get to a shower, toilet, and washer and dryer you can use. Very clean facility, and friendly folks. Only downside is the very steong manure smell, as someone who was raised near horse farms, I thought the cam hosts description of "active farm" would be easily overlooked, but our RV was swarmed with black and green flies and we had to burn all our candles and button up hardcore to keep the manure smell down just so we could eat dinner and keep it down.
Honestly, the manure smell and flies was the only down sides, and the camp hosts probably couldn't help those issues.
I'd recommend the camp for anyone with very good sealed window, doors, and vents and have strong scentes candles on hand.
The camp hosts farm dog 'harley' was such a sweet pupper and it was a good way to relax by just petting on her!

It was extremely secluded. Her son came by to make sure we knew where everything was and to finish up some work on the farm. He said if we saw a cow that she just wants us to pet her.

Camping here is wonderful if you enjoy a simple farm life experience! Sarah was a great host, very friendly and welcoming and made sure we had anything we needed. We only stayed one night, but it was very peaceful and we were able to walk around and get to know some of the animals on the property. We especially loved petting the horses and their sweet, excitable cow.

Camping through last minute between long drives and was able to get in at Vermillion Hills last minute. GPS passed 445th ave by 1/4mile but it was easy enough to figure out as she’s the only property out there. We stayed from 8:45pm-8:45am and not one vehicle passed us the entire visit. Secluded! Huge fire pit. Did not see a grate anywhere but we weren’t cooking anyway. Lovely indoor clean bathroom. Friendly adorable dogs I really couldn’t get enough of. Clean yard, no dog poo that I saw. Did not do any of the farm stuff she offers on the site as we were heading out but sure is peaceful out there. Plenty of room for more tents and RVs. Great for larger groups or quickie passers by like us.

Our stay at Sarah's beautiful family farm was nothing short of amazing! Sarah and her family were incredibly accommodating- from toys and stuff for my nieces to enjoy, to even letting us use their wonderful hot tub! There were adorable animals to show love to all over the farm, as well, including quite a few horses, miniature ponies, young lambs, dogs, and even a joyful little cow that played tag with me! The sound out there is a gorgeous serenade of birds and cicadas, and the sunset over the rolling hills is quite a sight to see! I highly recommend making this a stop on your next trip! I know we can't wait to visit again! <3

Vermillion Hills Peaceful Getaway!
This place was a true gem and well worth driving a bit off the interstate to experience more of South Dakota farm life. Their family was so generous with their time and shared their many lovable animals including horses and bottle fed sheep. Our kids really enjoyed playing with their kids too. Much appreciated and we hope to be back!

There were good amenities such as having a shower/bathroom. However various members of our party including children and adults had to listen to household members complaining about it, while we were in the bathroom- as the bathroom was right off their kitchen. So it kinda made us want to avoid it if possible. My son did also get kinda freaked out when overhearing an argument between the host and her boyfriend/husband about having campers. The area was beautiful and secluded, the children loved the animals. The fire pit area was nice and there was playground equipment for the kids. Mixed feelings but we did enjoy our trip. Close to an aquatic center with lots for kids and prairie village.

Camping at Sarah's place was perfect for us. The campsite is ideal level, grassy, etc). The fire-ring area is great for camping and cooking. The bathroom and shower is conveniently located. I give Sarah's camping area five stars plus.
